China's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, with a capacity of carrying 174,000 cubic meters, was delivered in Shanghai's Changxin Island on Wednesday.
With a total length of 299 meters and a width of 46.4 meters, the vessel Greenergy Ocean is the first of the fifth generation "Changheng series", independently developed, designed and built by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC).
It took 25,000 tons of steel to build the Greenergy Ocean, and its deck area is equivalent to three standard football pitches. The vessel has a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters of LNG, enough to meet the natural gas needs of seven million households for a month.
"The technical performance of the Greenergy Ocean LNG carrier delivered today has reached the world's leading level. Compared with the previous generation, the hull weight has been reduced by over 1,500 tons, leading to lower fuel consumption. It can reduce carbon emissions by over 10 tons per day and accommodate an additional 800 cubic meters of LNG per voyage," said Weng Hongbing, general manager of Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding under China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
