He is fearmongering about things China might do to them one day while they are doing the same or worse thing to China. Hypocrisy at it's best.

No he isn't. The fact there was an email from hunter Biden from china stating, WE have done everything you wanted we need to be paid, while biden was VP is concerning. 3 days later all the biden family gets a total of 3 millions dollars. Is that not concerning to you?

How does this compare to Taiwan? They themselves want to be left alone. Not asking for much. China is an empire that rules over several different people and walks on the rights of indo pacific neighbors.
@accountantthe3394
@accountantthe3394 Год назад
@@0bservationis1 Do they? Their polls under a pro-independent govt. (that got voted out recently) shows only ~50% pro-independence. Why didn't the media report that? And when was taiwan ever an independent sovereignty?
@dangood8470
@dangood8470 Год назад
XI does not want to seize Taiwan. It is happy the way things are now. China wants only one thing: prevent Taiwan from being independent, which would make it vulnerable to conquest as it was in 1895. An independent Taiwan is an existential risk for China, same as Ukraine in NATO for Russia.

He was saying that China's military is now poised for a full on invasion of Taiwan. He then went on to talk about that in more detail but it was censored by our freedom-loving oligarchy.

Book "Has China won?" by K. Mahbubani these days. I believe that Mahbubani is a widely well-received figure. On the topic of Taiwan, he explains that Taiwan was part of China for 2000 years, until China as forced to hand it over to Japan following the defeat in the 1894-1895 Sino-Japanese war. Next, the Western powers promised China that Taiwan would return to it, provided that China would take their part in WWI. China did, and send 100,000 chinese people to die in the fields of Europe. However in the Treaty of Versailles, it became known that the West had made "secret simultaneous agreements with both Japan and China", and that Taiwan would not be returned to China. Taiwan was "the hottest issue to resolve when Nixon and Kissinger began the process of reconciliation with China. Since then, and up until a few years ago, "One China" was the official US policy. In fact it is still stated so in many US government websites. This means the US itself agrees that China and Taiwan belonged to one country.". So where precisely is China wrong now in the whole Taiwan topic and why is the US sticking its nose in the whole issue *Now*? Because the US feels its power waning out. So they want to do what they always have done: Double down and go to war.
@antennawilde
@antennawilde Год назад
No, it's only because of US heavy and vital financial and technical investments in Taiwan. They should have kept the manufacturing in the US, but they wanted to make more $. It's always about $. Always, always, always.

While this is very informative and largely accurate, what he seems to be forgetting is that the U.S. would never need to combat China alone if it came to conflict. He speaks as if America has to go it alone against China. Why? America would have a MASSIVE alliance in Asia in the event of conflict. We’re talking Japan, Philippines, South Korea, Australia, Taiwan, Singapore and maybe even Malaysia and Indonesia which are Islamic countries and are upset at China’s treatment of the Muslim minority in China. India is not on good terms with China either. The U.S. doesn’t need to worry about military ‘projection’ in Asia. What it needs to worry about is having strong leadership in Asia which will inspire all these other countries to join an alliance in the event of war. Asia is filled with nations that don’t like China. The issue is knowing how to form a combative alliance out of these nations. Having lived and worked in both Asia and Europe, I would almost venture to say that with proper leadership it’s Asia (not Europe) that can handle things with less U.S. involvement. With proper leadership, I think Asia is capable of handling China without U.S. support far better than Europe would be able to handle Russia if it came to all out war. If you combine the manpower and technology of the countries I already named in Asia, they are (collectively) stronger than China. China would still have a slight economic edge, but not much. Japan and India alone are the game changers. Japan is superior technologically and India alone equals or surpasses China in population. Then add the other countries I mentioned into the alliance with their economies, manpower and industry and you realize how strong an anti-China alliance could actually be in Asia without Western help.

Hawley is certainly optimistic: that China just wants hegemony in Asia, or America will only have to deal with inflation if they lose the war. I mean, did America just want hegemony in North America? What stop China from also getting into the world police hobby? E.g. Europe More importantly, losing to today's China ain't going to be like losing in Vietnam or Korea, neither China circa 1950 nor Vietnam had the industrial power to grind the fight all the way to North America. China ain't going to go after Japan if US loses it's fleet, China's going to go after the US, starting with overseas territories. Not that all the economical consequences won't be there, but economic consequences are automatic regardless of who wins, but the consequence of a defeat will be existential to the United States. Lastly one would do well to read Art of War, because one of it's core principle is one does not fight and then seek victory, one achieve victory and then seek to fight. China won't fight until they've already won, so if you find yourself fighting instead of deterring, you've already lost.
@lavs8696

I agree, that's a very naive way of thinking. Never in the history has a hegemon voluntarily stopped expanding when things are going their way. China, if it isn't contained, will become the world hegemon and set the rules at the world stage. I have no idea why anyone would want that unless you are a Han person or a sadist. It would be horrific having the authoritarian CCP set the rules. Hawley is incredibly naive here, he needs to talk more with actual smart Senators like Cotton on this issue.

Who is benefiting from Trade with China? This is key question. First the Rich Capitalists got the most just like every other Economic Activity in a Capitalist System. This has nothing to do with China and everything to do with US Economic System. Second All American Consumers benefited hugely from China's cheap goods. The people who lost jobs also benefited from Cheap Chinese Good. But their loss is clearly bigger than the gain. So in a Just Society, US should compensate them from the Gain the Whole US got, especially the Richest. In stead the guy blamed China and scapegoated China. This is easy to do and solve no problem. The decoupling from China will not move the jobs back to US, but the other poor countries AND let inflation back to hurt the Real Poor people in US.

Hawley is not after the truth: he is after US permanent hegemony. He wants his country to be the sole super-power. A very Piscean mentality: the power at the centre, around which the rest revolve. But the Age of Aquarius is upon us, and sharing is in - in world politics, the Multipolar World.
