The only way to make a good stadium is 1) Put it somewhere near the city economic center 2) Build very good public transit around it so no cars have to go in or out
The only problem with #2 is if you have a very greedy owner who wants EVERYONE to pay for parking, and thus deliberately makes it difficult if not impossible for people to go to the game via public transportation. I am looking at you, Dan Snyder!
I work in entertainment infrastructure for one of the largest fabrication shops in the world and we are in the process of building an Unreal Engine-based mock-up renderer. This type of industrial modeling IS the future!
No wonder it’s extremely beautiful, Zaha Hadid architects. I first read their book randomly in my campus’s library, they built many famous amazing architecture-basically each of their project is an art piece. Tremendously beautiful.
Ah, Zaha Hadid. Mesopotamian society and Zaha Hadid are Iraq's greatest exports. I know Olympic Stadiums are meant to be the centerpieces of each Games, but the aquatics centre she designed for the 2012 Summer Olympics blew the stadium that year out of the water. Truly a work of art. Though my favorite work of hers is the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, both the exterior and the interior of its auditorium are magnificent. Although she passed in 2016, her firm is continuing her legacy beautifully.
It's also used to create films, used in academics, and very often used in Architecture and Interior Design (although not to the same degree as something like Revit or SketchUp). Also, you missed the Rocket League advertisement on the massive screen in the stadium :)
Unreal Engine 4 powers the backgrounds of shows like “The Mandolorian” in real time. (They film on a giant set with screens that wrap around and cover it.) The version 5 of this is coming, and it’s even more realistic.

@@architectdoge9251 i think chinese are more into gaming, architecture, engineering and probably money. Usually they dont really into gym or sport kinda thing.
@@celestialbeing5291 Yes everyone knows Zaha Hadid is Iraqi. But I don't think you could argue that this design is Iraqi, as it's pretty much fully western+traditional Chinese. The ethnicity of the architect does not determine what style it is. Furthermore, I don't think Zaha Hadid herself was even involved with the design of this stadium. It was her practice, but led by Patrik Schumacher. That said, I respect traditional Iraqi architecture very much and I even study it at university, alongside traditional architecture of other countries.
@@vincentxiao1836 It doesn't look Western. Matter of fact, it's getting attention due to it's innovative design based on Iraqi originality and non-traditional structure. THAT"s why it's news dude.
@@celestialbeing5291 It was designed with western construction technologies, but indeed it doesn't look western. Because ZHA was designing this to look Chinese. Have you ever seen Chinese traditional architecture? In fact, Zaha Hadid had passed away long before ZHA took on this project, and their designs are now led by a German, so I don't even know why you're still arguing lol.
While, yes, this stadium is extremely stunning and i really appreciate the historic references in its design, i don’t quite understand how this stadium is “pushing boundaries of what a stadium can be”. It’s simply a stadium with a plaza and mall inside, nothing new to be fair. Doesn’t seem like it has that much of an open space in front of it either, like they did at SoFi Stadium. It’s great they think of a stadium more like a city space now, but you can see adaptions and newly built stadiums are like that nearly everywhere in the world now. It’s simply the only way to keep them operating to be fair. Not all of Europe has full stadiums every week like in Bundesliga or Premier League.
@@Bunnybunny5656 i did not miss that, and it’s amazing what technology can do these days. I’m sure it will serve better as a stadium than most newly built stadiums, but that doesn’t change my point that it’s still just at most simply a stadium - a very good one admittedly. I just did not like how they talked about “transforming what a stadium can be”, i just hoped there was more of change in programs and it seriously in all its functions thought through to serve more than just what most stadiums all over the world already do anyways.
Ancient China did not have "stadium" like what Ancient Greek or Roman civilization had for some odd reason. Greeks had semi-circular theatres and stadiums where tens of thousands of people could gather and watch events. and Roman had Colosseums and Circust Maximus. But Ancient Chinese ruling class did not want large group of people gathering together in one place. so no such structures were built.
Very nice to see how they keep the stadium running even after the sport event is over. Most stadiums around the world are left abandoned as soon as its over.
Not true. Small part of them are but people tend to catch on those. For example Euro 2012 Poland-Ukraine, every stadium is working and still in heavy use. (I speak only about Polish part)
@@qzg7857 Prior to this February, the only Ukrainian Euro 2012 stadium not in use was Donbas Arena. After the Russian invasion in 2014, Shakhtar Donetsk, the main tenant, had to relocate to non-occupied Ukraine. The current status of Donbas Arena is unclear. We know it suffered damage in 2014, was being repaired, but was then damaged again this year.

Usually I enjoy B1Ms insightful commentaries but here I feel it is not clear how this stadiums actual design, rather than the digital approach, moves the conversation on from Spurs stadium in London or the SoFi stadium in Inglewood - although the exterior looks great the interior looks kind of ordinary - dare i say Emirates stadium in London level of ordinary.
Could not have said it better. This stadium is clearly lagging to his peers (No retractable roof or pitch and no word of any other leisure activities available in the stadium apart from watching football) Usually B1M is quite good at merging sponsors with purposeful information but definately not on this one
Unreal is being used for all sorts of modeling to not only make sure buildings are constructed properly, but also run all sorts of simulations on existing structures. Pretty exciting stuff.
China isn't hosting the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. Back on May 14, they announced due to the circumstances of their pandemic policy, they cannot host the cup. That being said, as great as this stadium is, our beautiful Rungrado May Day Stadium which hosts our famous Arirang Mass Games has a way bigger capacity. Xi'an's stadium will have 60K, ours has a capacity of 114,000. For the longest time it was the world's largest stadium...until India stole our thunder
Fair play to ZHA, have come a long way since pure form like the London Aquatics areana. The cable net structure with a hole in the middle looks beautiful
Thank you for saying it was invented in China, because a lot of Europeans love to defend that it isn't from there with a burning passion. People really underestimate Chinese contributions to society. We wouldn't have gunpowder, acupuncture, paper, a compass, tea, toothbrushes, money, and umbrellas if it wasn't for the Chinese.
I work in arch viz and specialise in both Unreal Engine and the usual static renders. Being more focused on Unreal, these clips look amazing and the results are great!

If China is going to claim cuju was the "origins" of football, then why not say the Aztec Tchatali was the origin of football? Oh, its because China has a lot of money to strong arm companies like Fifa and Peru doesnt.
@@lilfoward1832 FIFA have removed any claim and only made said claim because they were at an Expo in a certain country………………the problem with history is those using it to fit their agenda. Association Football and Cuju are different.
Look at all the North American stadiums for all 4 major sports baseball (MLB), basketball (NBA), American FOOTBALL (NFL) and hockey (NHL). They always build majority of those in downtown areas so they can get the maximum crowd and it blends it beautifully with the city vibe
Copied from reddit : If you're reffering to the 2004 news article about Cuju on FIFA Magazine, I think it's a bit of a stretch to say FIFA recognized it as the earliest form of football. It was not an editorial or an oficial document, and was written by a professor of Oriental Studies (the German Helmut Brinker) as a piece of trivia and entertainement. Terribly misleading to claim that FIFA officially acknowledged anything. 1:07
My 4th favorite city in China, which is a complement. Had so much fun in archeologist classes there. Wonderful place to visit! Do yourself a favor and go to Xian, plan at least a week or you will regret it.
Cuju has nothing to do with modern football, except that it's played with the legs. Many other sports are played with legs. Football was created by British public school graduates in the 19th century.
beautiful design. with a historical nod, an imposing and stately presence, all coupled with a decidedly strong 21st century leap forward. truly excellent. tip of the hat to Zaha Hadid team.

@@xkoni97x Yeah, I've noticed the same trend. Their production value has gone up significantly but the content is pretty stale. Like a gift wrapped bland oatmeal.
I am sorry but how does this stadium revolutionize the meaning and purpose of a Stadium? I mean in Europe and North America the Stadiums host more than a sport and are quite larger to be honest. This stadium is nothing innovative its just new
I'm Italian and I could stretch this to say that football was born from calcio storico... football was created where it was created, anything else isn't relevant to that

It looks uniquely like a combination of Chinese, minimalist Ferengi & Klingon architectures. Excellent civic engineering feat! Beautiful aesthetics! Didn't mention solar panels or hempcrete carbon encapsulation. The landscaping was seen but not mentioned. Hempcrete eventually smells like a freeway tunnel, so it's lack of widespread use is at least comprehensible. Please stay green China!
Dont worry China will go green as quickly as possible for a nation that size.. china has managed to turn the desert green... most evs on the planet....
China was the birthplace of football? BS. Many cultures around the world started kicking balls around independently of each other. The one that evolved in the football we know today started in the UK. FIFA's "claim" was just to win over the Chinese market and stop competition to their authority
@Bruhhh Channel the modern game of football today was made in England, fact. Just cause the Chinese were kicking a circular object around 2 thousand years ago doesn’t change that, that’s a very vague thing 😂
The facade from one side looks like the royal palace of Tang Dynasty, which speaks the history of Xi’an - the stadium’s host city is the capital city of 13 dynasties in ancient China.

As much as I dont like China, I gotta give respect to this architecture. They perfectly incorporated traditional and modern styling with this project. Impressive
Pretty sure the birth place of football is in my home city of Sheffield, England. Well its has the world's oldest professional football stadium (Bramall Lane) and club (Sheffield FC) anyway.
Your video are amazing, thanks a lot for all your hard work. May i suggest you to make video about Chengdu metro system. It is absolutely crazy what they build in just 12 year and how much more they will do in next two years. For now Chengdu metro system has 13 lines, 373 metro stations, and 518km of tracks. In next two years they will open 4 new lines and one very long extension of existing line(25 km of extension and 18 new stations), plus few short extensions. I think that is amazing for city that isnt TIER 1 city in China. In 2024 system will be around 700 km long.

@@jediknight5600 many reasons, i think an important one is that, in general we value the education greatly, much more than sports, parents don't want their children commit to any sport as future profession. especially the average family, they can't afford to take the risk, if along the way their kids failed at any point, they would be left with very grim prospect in other potential options of livelihood, given the fierce competition everywhere in china. it's better and safer for the kids to receive normal educations and keep their options open. professional football became to a rich kid's game. so the talent pool is greatly limited from the beginning, and rich kids are spoiled, they are lack of disciplines, motivation, and professionalism, in general.

" fifa acknowledged in 2004 that The origin of the sport started in China" the game in China was nothing like today's game. Besides did the English come into contact with the Chinese game, then was inspired to create the modern game? If not then fifa shouldn't be acknowledging nothing because the modern game was created completely independent from China.

The video's well presented but I feel like this stadium's superfluous. If all the dilapidated Olympic venues show anything, it's that these builds are merely temporary money pits that'll fall into disuse after the tournament or whatever event concludes.
We're talking about China, in one of its most populated centers, not a white elephant in the middle of the jungle. The project location allows the use of the transport system by the locals and there are minor courts and other community areas for training/leisure.

I disagree with the football "origins". First of all, China's Cuju was a football game around 3rd century BCE. Football games and rugby games whas mentioned even in ancient Greece around 388-311 BCE which is the 4th century BCE, meaning that both football games in China or Greece was not exactly the football game that we know of today, then both are 2 origins for football. And both are the oldest documented sources of football games
FIFA did their research and concluded that football came from China as they had the most substantial evidence. Are you disagreeing with hard evidence and FIFA? You must be a flat-earther 🤣
@@DeadBeat1azy The sport cuju from ancient China involved teams and a football and a goal and only feet was allowed. This is football/soccer. England simply took this sport and added today's modern rules. Hence, FIFA recognize that cuju is the origins of football/soccer.
