Hey badnik so u probably didnt hear me but did u see my comment about the giant giveaway but there is a down Where whould you put it? Its godzilla size so where whould you put youre statue??
So China can make a gargantuan Sonic statue full of details and accuracy, but Hollywood can’t even make an accurate Sonic out of CGI.... what has this world come to
That's ok. An insurance company did a live action sonic 7 years before Hollywood did and got it perfect. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PQXthR_16lA.html
like in that one Simpsons Treehouse of Terror "Attack of the 50-Foot Eyesores" and giant statues like the Big Boy and The Pep Boys come to life and terrorize everyone
Unfortunately, I went to Dubai last month and I found out that the Sega Republic was REPLACED with a VR theme park. (not like anybody cares but i'm throwing this here anyways)
i know! i lived in dubai for most of my life (by the way im 10 and im americain and we migrated there in 2012 and i am now back in america) and i didn't even go on the rides because i was too young. DANG IT EMAAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
God I'd be terrified seeing that thing in person. Not because it's inherently scary (I actually love it a lot and I don't consider the statue itself scary), but just because of the *_SHEER SIZE_* of it. That's the terrifying part. I couldn't imagine seeing such a large statue of Sonic in person.
It wouldn't surprise me if it's the opposite. The Chinese government owns the land. They already go around demolishing houses whenever they want to clear land, doesn't matter if the owner protests and refuses to get out during the demolition process. China is huge, but it's mostly made up of mountains or deserts. All the habitable land are crowded as hell, they'd clear away any available space to put something that has more economic value. A statue about a video game character that is hardly known over there nowadays is even more likely to get destroyed. But then again, it's on the rooftop. It's using space that isn't used. Chances are if it's removed from the roof, it'll be destroyed. If it stays on the roof, it remains.
Sadly, it was removed a few months ago due to complaints. Given that it's the size of a small house, and has been there for 3 years it's an understandable reason to be concerned.
I suppose it's made out of steel-framed concrete, that's what its appearance suggests, of course with a somewhat special concrete mixture. You can throw it into the concrete recycling where it will be crushed to bits, then steel bits get extracted and re-melted into new steel items, and the rest will be recycled into construction gravel to be used in road construction or filler material for new concrete. I mean think about it, new buildings get constructed every day, and buildings that were there beforehand get demolished, and the bits have to go somewhere, right?
I'm like you, would be really neat to be able to walk down the street and look up to see a waving Sonic. My grandson would have to sit on it's lap and want his picture taken! Just hate that vandals always seem to gain access to these things.
Guys there are many types of RU-vid channels There are gamers There are animators There are reviewers And the BEST ONE A person who likes to talk about sonic statues
Wait... I have an idea! A giant Sonic Snowboarding statue above Sega America HQ for the 30th anniversary!!! That or the statue in the woods near a Sega building.
Nah, leave the statue in the woods where it's at, the backstory to is is too sweet to remove it. But making a replica of it for the 30th Anniversary would be a good idea.
This statue looks amazing, I really hate that most statues just get destroyed its really a sin. I also really wish we got more. I live in Canada so i've never even seen a sonic statue of any kind
I would have LOVED to see this in person! :o Great find and video, Badnik!! EDIT: I also noticed the swear word straight away...funny how we're drawn to stuff like that! XD
Who wouldn't want to see a giant Sonic the Hedgehog statue waving at them from its perch on a rooftop? I would have liked to. I'll never get to see one in my country. But I do like to see a Sonic Statue, make no mistake.
I do remember seeing this statute a few years ago on tumblr. Shows how much China loves Sonic. Also check out sites like billi billi aka youtube in china you might find some stuff there.
It must be a chinese exlusive attraction for the Chinese public. Contractual obligations and a communication disconnect may be the reason for the obscurity for the statue.
Man, imagine walking through a forest and suddenly seeing a giant, dumped, old, cracked, consumed by the nature sonic statue right in front of you, just like an elder creature, that would be so in-universe for a godzilla movie it would be frightening.
They really need to make these statues, especially this huge one, more durable. Something that big should be on display frequently, especially considering how much money goes into building them. In California, where I'm from, we used to have this giant brachiosaurus statue named Dixie in a field facing the interstate. She was up for a long time, then she was moved to another location before permanently vanishing.
i know this video is old, but im curious if they either demolished it or put it in a huge containment area. it would be so cool if in a couple years or even soon we get an update on this statue. i also wish sonic was way more known in the UK since sega doesnt do much for the UK except that one comic line "Sonic the comic"
This is really cool but here’s what I’m wondering: if this statue is no longer on top of the joypolis building, where could it be now? Is it somewhere where it’s safe? Was it...this is a really horrible thought...was the statue demolished when they were done using it? I really hope it’s somewhere safe but we may never know
Rare pictures of sonic waving goodbye before he commits suicide by jumping off a building because of the sonic movie trailer design *Then he hears that they are redesigning him now he's just stuck up their*
So with the Sonic statue no longer on top of the building, where has it been placed now? Not exactly something that can just be tucked away in a closet.
I dunno, I think that would freak me out a little too much, but then again I've always had a mild phobia of oversized things looking down on me like that. I couldn't go into a Burger King when they had those giant inflatable Spongebob Squarepants promotionals going on.
