Genuinely best storyteller besides Mr. Ballin I have ever seen. Like when I first saw one of her videos in my head I was just picturing 2,000 years ago sitting around a fire with a tribe and she is just telling us a story in the entire tribe is just engrossed like that is how good she is. I listen to her videos like podcast when I'm working so I'm never looking at them and even like her storytelling allows my brain to paint pictures of what she's talking about and that's an incredible storyteller to me. I love it so much. I could probably sit in a circle with her and listen to her talk all day
We don't see them anywhere else either! I goggled some crime scene photos (that stephanie warned us not to 🙄) and literally the first five or six links that came up were links to Rotten Mango on a bunch of different podcast platforms. It's because she's covering very interesting cases that we don't hear much about (if at all!) In America, at least!
I felt bad for her when this happened. I liked her in Empress of China. She was so big, even doing Hollywood movies and then she was gone! I wish her well
Tbh if she was a multimillionaire doing movies with Hollywood she could very easily buy USA passport, if you have at least 500k usd (maybe 1 mill usd)to invest into USA like opening big business you can get a citizenship real quick even when you don't speak English. If I'd be from such a country like China I'd do immediately. Open 5-6 7/11 stores and you're done.

Bing Bing and Li Chen never married. They ended their engagement just after her “release”. It was really sad, there’s actually an interview where she’s asked what was her biggest heartbreak in life, she said it was having to let go of the person she loved most. There’s a lot of inside talks that she initiated the breakup to save Li Chen’s career.
Glad I’m not tripping! I heard they were just engaged but split after the scandal so she doesn’t implicate him. But some articles also refer to them as husband and wife, but I feel like it’s just some mistranslation? Or some cultural thing like “they’re engaged, they’re good as married” but not legally? Or people just really liked them back then, so the delulu ship was real situation? Lol
This story makes me feel so infuriated. People trying to take down FBB is pure misogyny...no one is outraged by how much male actors like Jackie Chan makes. And I wonder how much her male co-stars made on that movie where she was paid (officially) $1million...my guess the men were paid a lot more. And even the gross TV presenter, why target Bing Bing? It just screams sexism.
to be fair, i don't think he targeted bingbing due to her being female. he targeted her for being one of the most biggest actors of the movie who got their biggest breaks from it. she was the easiest target for him. could this be because she's female? possibly, female contracts may not be as gated as males, or something else. but i don't think him taking bingbing down with him was more than just a petty hit that he had been holding onto for decades.
Don't get me wrong, I genuinely feel so bad for the talk show host; his whole life, career, etc etc., was affected because of the movie but I don't understand why he went after Fan Bing Bing instead of the directors, producers or even the script writers. She simply played a role that was offered to her. Anyway, this was a crazy story. I don't know how I feel about her.
Because the moment one of actress/actor being ghosted by Chinese gov the whole movie is considered gone, erased. And maybe she was the easiest target compare to director or producers. And probably there's that small tiny misogyny in the mix there too.
I also think it’s because she is the most influential actor in the cast. It makes her having a target on her back. Producer, screenwriter and such might not be as well known and eye catching as her.
She paid the fine for it but I'm sure many people in the industry do this as she isn't the first and most likely won't be the last. She was most likely the easiest target.
The saddest is when people dragged her brother. It's UTMOST normal that when siblings have a big age gap, they get along pretty much better, it happens ALL the time. My friend's siblings are almost 25 years apart. her nephew was studying with her in the same class hahah bless their souls she was the apple of the eye for all her older borthers.
I think it's crazy ppl thought them looking alike as children is proff they are mother/son. Like if you share even one parent why tf wouldn't you look alike? esp as children. All children look so similar esp if they are the same race.
My older brothers are 14 and 16 years older than me, and we also get along really well. I’ve never been in a fight with either of them. Now that I’m in my late 20s, we get along even better, especially me and my oldest brother. I think he exposed the easies target. Let me explain: people(public and media) are and were jealous of her. No matter what she did people talked bad about her. So exposing her was easier on him. Im sure a lot of people (nasty producers) wanted her, she looks like the type that knows how to avoid them plus she has a rich family, so is not an easy person to control. Which good on her but when you fall people will step on this type of people. So exposing someone from the movie cancels it. Exposing her less probability of him getting black listed by the public and media

I think Fan being a public target in some way is close to Song Hye-kyo’s case,the fact they are both pretty women who refuse to be frail or obedient as those mid-age guy who runs the industry expected .Eastern Asia patriarchy society really hates women(especially young ones)with confident and determined . (Especially the time Fan started to get the attention.)Coming from economically well-being family with supportive parents ? You can hardly threat’em. Fan Bing Bing’s been known to the international community for decades. She’s been at big international festivals and award shows for ages and always known for her incredible looks.
Fan Bingbing is one of my top favorite Chinese actresses and still is~ I can't wait for her to make a come back to the screen. I love her in historical/fantasy dramas, such as Empress of China.
I never thought I'd be so invested in Chinese drama, or creepy stories, or mystery books (literally my least favorite genre), but Stephanie has so much passion that I just love listening to everything she has to say. You should consider doing an episode on kim sae ron. She was one of the top child actresses in korea but she got into a drunk driving hit and run accident that ruined her career. The pr handling of it was also really messy. Her early life was also super turbulent as she was heavily bullied in school (had to drop out) and also has an emotional abuse mother who tried to force her and her sister to commit suicide with her. Her life story is really crazy.
I heard about this at the time and back then, the yin and yang contracts seemed to be a status quo within that industry. Many celebrities were doing it to get richer while avoiding tax evasion. Fan Bingbing was at her peak and her momentum was still growing strong. In general, I don't think her country liked how much power and influence she held so they chose to make an example out of her.

I would love it if you could do a story on the inspirational life of Johnny Kim, Korean American former Navy SEAL, naval aviator, doctor and NASA astronaut. And he’s only 39 years old. Grew up with an abusive father whom he tried his best to protect his mother and brother from. His life just seems so inspirational. ❤

her first show was really big. i watched it in my chinese orphanage, and it always stuck with me even over a decade after moving to america. i fell in love w her acting as an adult, but took too long to realize she was in that show from back then.

Interesting about the age gap stuff because I’m part Vietnamese and part Chinese. My mom was born and raised in Vietnam but she’s half and half. My mom has six daughters (me included) and we literally span 20 years with me precisely in the middle. My oldest sister was born in 1962 and my youngest sister was born in 1982.
Really been loving the Chinese scandals series even though I’m Chinese and already knew everything that went down. But yeah the Fan Bingbing scandal was probably the catalyst to the ongoing saga of Chinese celebrities being caught and banned for tax evasion. I’m pretty sure she never got married to Li Chen though just engaged, but fun fact Fan Bingbing’s younger brother Fan Chengcheng is currently a permanent member of China’s Running Man alongside Li Chen.

i have this friend from Guangzhou, she was an only child and while she was studying abroad, her parents had another child. We were like 18 at that time. So, the gap between fan bingbing and the brother is possible.
I think people should address the fact that this guy who was supposedly an innocent bystander who got hurt by a movie "she just acted in" Was able to get ahold of not just one but two of her contracts 🤔 as far as I know those are legal documents and somebody who is not a family member or the spouse should never have had the ability to get ahold of them 🤔 Instead of going out to the real culprit he chose to go after an actress that he knew he could take down. No matter what she did she paid her dues for it and took her responsibility of it and the fact that people are still giving her a hard time is completely ridiculous. She is not responsible for other people's ignorance.
