I think China is going to do what China need to improve the social position of its people, regardless of what the rest of the world does. They would prefer to cooperate with everyone else but they will not stop just because one particular country doesn't like it. The west should do the same instead of trying to impede the progress of everyone else and particularly China and Russia. Doing the best for our country doesn't have to be at the expense of others, it could be done by cooperation and mutual respect.

It seems that Western governments feel that the ONLY way they can feel secure and prosperous is by undermining the Global South and keeping them poor and disempowered. Call it imperialism or just plain contempt for seeing others do well, it's all the same. But in spite of this current reality, I have hope for the future especially with organizations like BRICS and the SCO to level the playing field.

Interesting that you start this piece with USA ambassador's thoughts. Chinese leaders, it seems to me, aim to circumvent the possible stranglehold of USA plans by making foreign business investments too lucrative to ignore. Already some EU companies have continued business with Chinese firms. The possibility of joint ventures in technological advancement & gaining access to China's well-developed supply chains might be the lifeline for many western companies Hurt by sanctions that were, ironically supposed to help them. This is a brilliant strategy by Chinese leaders to EMBRACE the challenge of western market suppression by opening ever wider opportunities & access to investment while at the same time keeping close watch on its own security in all areas. All this, while at the same time making sure that the wealth generated goes to the Chinese populace as well as profits to investors. Let's watch closely how this is implemented! China's Third Plenum adjusts its plan of socialist capitalism. Xi wants more emphasis on the lower economic tiers to raise them even further. China is planning on opening up more, opposite to that of the west. Xi is focused on China becoming a developed state, avoiding the middle income trap, and making the rural agricultural sector more efficient. The migration from rural to urban areas has not stopped, but the twist is that some rural areas are becoming urban areas as jobs move to rural areas. China is also focused on the modernization and discipline of its military to prepare for war should the west continue to cause angst with threats to China. Further, China sees the fruits of the BRI and with the expansion of BRICS, the fruits of the BRI will become more evident. China is making overtures to the EU, but the EU seems reluctant to grow ties with China. We'll see how events play out, but so far the EU has embraced trade barriers similar to the US. As for the US, there is not much in options for China. Biden continues to add tariffs and isolates the US even further, Trump has said he will double tariffs and his VP is known for his anti-China views. What either one will be faced with is a declining domestic economy and continued war participation than drains its economy and military resources. Americans are tired of war and that view will show up in the upcoming election. Trump has the edge here in ending wars, but Trump also brings with him the continued isolation of America with China.

Unfortunately America still thinks it is the indispensable nation. Just like the American woman at the start has no better strategy that to spend her time thinking how can we do harm. Eventually she comes to the conclusion America can do harm by the strength of its economic power. You would think she might stop and consider how China might counter such a plan. The first question she might ask herself could be how much of Americas GDP has any tradeable value to China. Less than 30% because 70% of their GDP is services and no use to china. Second question might be how would China counter. One answer might be investment into poorer countries like Africa. If you make improved GDP leading higher lifestyle of a billion people turning them into valuable trading partners. You end up with China lifting other countries while America tries to keep other countries down. America has chosen a path to self isolation its 30% GDP will not be missed.
Human resources are the most important resource. Engineers and scientists are the key to success, because they have to know what they are talking about, otherwise things are not created. China was providing the backbone of the USA e t c research, because of relatively attractive conditions. In the Free World you have to work for the military, with loss of freedom in the research and applications to be appreciated. She got the Nobel price for medicine, which means something, contrary to the Nobel peace price. So China should find and attract top talent internationally, while keeping theirs at home. With videoconferencing this is easily done and english may be used as a universal language. If the Free World does not adjust to creating the best conditions for creativity they will drop even faster behind and no monetary manipulation will help even in the near term.

Like China, India another BRICS partner is under severe pressure from the US and its satellite states in Europe to distance and even move way from the group. But with PM Modi's meeting with Mr.Putin India seems to be in charge of its own destiny in strategic foreign relations. Indi-China relations are in cold storage now (due to intense pressure from the US), though India's largest trading partner is China and it imports critical components like nuclear reactor parts, EV batteries and electronic equipment, etc., from China. India's infrastructure is in shambles and it needs a partner like China to upgrade it and lift its millions of poor people from poverty. Hope China will pay more attention to its relations with its neighbour, India.
