India has actually done very well. True, China's record is excellent. But China also has a larger navy than the US. It is a mistake to compare India to China. It may take decades for India to catch up to China. But if you compare India now to how India was when the British left, India's record is excellent. When I was growing up in British India, my mother was a school teacher and we did NOT have either telephone. By comparison, a poor Muslim girl who worked for my mother in 2007 had her own cell phone. India has sent missions to the moon, (two of them) and to Mars. But 200 years of exploitation by the British take years to undo. India's problem is that India's traditional ally Russia is indebted to China. And the US, while it might step in, is an unreliable ally. India cannot hope to defeat China in the near future. But India could make sure that the cost to China of annoying India may be greater than the gain. The irony is that the US is, in a way, harming India and why? Because instead of negotiating and working for peace, the US keeps putting more and more pressure on Russia. As a result, Russia's need to depend on China grows, and Russia is unable to intercede between China and India. The future is murky.
