Chinese train travel is always an adventure! If you were to explore China by train, would you choose a lightning fast, 300 km/hour Chinese 'bullet train' or would you prefer to travel like a local in a slow train? Let's weigh the options as we travel to the mountains of Zhangjiajie, the inspiration for the epic scenery in the Avatar film!
The Chinese bullet train is one of the fastest high speed rail trains on the planet. And our favourite high speed train we've taken so far!
If you love train travel or high speed train travel in general, then we highly recommend bullet train China travel - it is the most comfortable way to get around this vast country. And you'll have a blast doing so!
We hope you enjoyed this China vlog & the China bullet train - there are many more to come as we travel China for the next few weeks! NEXT UP: The Avatar Mountains, with the most beautiful scenery you'll ever see! Care to join us on another adventure? Then please make sure to subscribe so you don't miss this next China travel vlog!

Many years ago, I did a trip from Beijing to Urumqi. I stopped at Jiayuguan on the way out. They have a huge fort there, built hundreds of years ago, to stop the invaders. Stayed at Urumqi, the world's most inland city for a few days, then back to Shanghai over two days on the train.

the reason that some ppl still prefer squat toilet is because they dont have to touch the seat with their butts, which they think it's not hygiene. So the trains just have both kinds.

Squat toilets won't make people waiting outside wait for too long. One can't be on a squat toilet for a long time looking at the phone for example because the legs get tired. Also you shit easier and so quicker in a squating position.

That's great to there Sze Ling Chai! You will have a great time. Where are you planning to go? We booked our train tickets for Beijing to Pingyao and then to Xi'an and Chongqing before we arrived in China. All the other trains we booked once we were in China. We usually bought the train ticket at least 1 day before to be sure we could get it. Although one day we showed up at the wrong train station (Xi'an North instead of South, about 35km in the other way haha) and they were able to book us onto another train immediately. September and especially golden week is a very busy period so we didn't want to take any chances.

Thank you for your reply We will fly in to Harbin then going Beijing , datong, pingyao, xian, chengdu, zhangjiajie, guilin and last kunming . I am thinking to add in Fenghuang because of your video. Hopefully everything will work as plan. Our main concern now is payment using cash or credit card or wechat. Have a blessed day
@NaickKim
@NaickKim 4 года назад
If you do not have a Chinese bank account, you cannot use wechat for payments. Credit cards are generally not accepted. Some more upscale restaurants and shops accept them, but it is pretty rare. We have been using cash for pretty much everything. There are plenty of ATM's where you can get cash with your credit card. ICBC always work for me, as well as CITIC, HSBC and China Construction bank. Bank of China, China postal and some others did not work for me. Install the Didi taxi app, even if you don't need taxis, their map has pretty much all the restaurants, hotels and ATM's in there. Even some small ATM's inside government buildings etc. Sounds like you have a great itinerary. If you can fit it in, I would visit Fenghuang, it is very beautiful.

@@NaickKim I do speak a little Cantonese. It is very different from Mandarin. They are not mutually intelligible. But if you are native speaker, starting from one, you are able to transfer to the other with a one month practice, although your pronunciation may not be quite accurate. The point is that we share not only the same writing system, but also the same formal written language.
@NaickKim
@NaickKim 4 года назад
So the characters are the same and have the same meaning then? So it is more the pronounciation? I read somewhere that Cantonese has 6 different intonations, but Mandarin has less. @@NaickKim You are right. The formal written languages, if not direct interpretations of colloquial languages, are the same. In Hong Kong people use traditional characters instead of the systematically simplified ones, but it's more like different styles of the same thing. In the colloquial languages, our choices of words for the same meaning can sometimes be different, but people can guess and somehow find the reason why different words are used in other dialects (if they know how the words are written) based on a common culture background.
@NaickKim
@NaickKim 4 года назад

I am deeply impressed by the girl's carrying capacity! In China, this is solely a men's task. The good point about squat toilets is contact-free. Yangtze River is the third-longest river in the world after the Amazon River and the river Nile. China has two big rivers Yangtze and Yellow, which belong solely to China.

bullet or slow train, it's always better than flying in airplanes the constant jet noise, the small seat, the low amount of food, the turbulence, can't smoke, the constant uneasiness, no leg space, can't stand up and stretch getting up when windows passenger wants to pee, and when you're sitting in the window seat and want to pee and the two guys are sleeping and you have to wake them up, or them waking you up 38 hours in a slow train wasn't all that bad for me, i could move around, look at the environment, smoke, stand and stretch, talk with the waitress 4+ hours for me in an airplane, always hell, minutes feels like hours no leg space, small seats, jet noise no leg space, small seats, jet noise no leg space, small seats, jet noise (6'0, 80kg, 34 waist here)
