Wow Corin, what a fantastic transformation, absolutely stunning!!!! I would have been terrified to have cut the tree back like you have, an amazing skill to say the least. Can’t wait to see part 3, the final shaping and of course to be reunited with my new look Elm. This is amazing! It really showcases how an experienced professional understands his craft. I'm brand new to growing the Chinese Elm and in the previous video I was shocked! I thought "this guy just butchered that tree! Cut all the damn leaves off just to shape the branches." But holy smokes seeing it less than a month later and it's gorgeous! I tip my hat to your skill sir 😉

Corin your a star.....To give us a follow up and show the progress of this Elm has got to be the way forward...really refreshing . Keep um coming. Just a question before you start pruning any tree you say to use sharp, clean scissors , is it as obvious as soap n water to clean them or do you suggest anything ?...as well as . Thanks.

These were planted as street trees in a neighborhood years ago. Now there are seedling growing out of every crack , patch of grass and yard in the area. You can find some really interesting trees of all sizes. They are so tough, I have pulled them out of a sidewalk crack and they lived. Makes for interesting looking starter bonsai. I hear some people call them lacebark elm as well as Chinese elm. Thanks for the great videos ! You do great work.

You make it look so easy when I know it isn't but then again I have not been doing this that long unlike you. Practice makes perfect they say...

That is one well cared for tree, mine don't get that growth in 3 months, let alone 3 weeks! Looking forward to seeing it in another 3 weeks, it'll look like a giant oak!

Many thanks your very nice videos. Very instructive. I have a chinese elm tree very similar and I did exactely the same as you did. But it took more than 3 weeks to get the same result. I did a strong pruning like you last march then put the tree in my external greenhouse then put it outside in my garden at end of April. I pruned it again at end of May and finally get the same result...but after seven weeks...

Really great channel here, well worth a sub from me. Your presentation is thorough and very informative. Amazed at how well the tree rebounded from the heavy pruning. I'm just at the start of my own bonsai journey after nurturing a ginseng ficus back from the brink this year. It's looking really healthy now and I have the bonsai bug. I've purchased some Chinese elm seeds and would like to know if I should place them in the fridge for a couple of months to simulate winter cold before germinating them in the early spring next year as some people (not bonsai experts) have suggested. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

What time of year did you start the hard trim...great video

So is early summer the best time to do a drastic prune like you did in part 1? I have a few Chinese Elms that could use a good pruning. Just curious as to what time of the year is best. I live in the US...Southern California to be exact.

What kind of scissors do you use…and where do you purchase them…thank you

I have also a chinese elm very vigorous trees. Normaly I would wait that the new growth hardens, but you trim it so early, just after 3 weeks again?

When performing hard cutbacks like that should you stop fertilizing till new growth or does fertilizing help get new growth like that

I like it but; I would be tempted to cut more off the top, Do you think you would cut the top 5-6 cm off for scale or is that too brutal? Please forgive me, I feel it is looking a bit coniferous than deciduous.

Mine probably died, t’s end of june and it hasn’t put out any new growth :/
