There's a Chinese saying to the effect that "when living in bliss one doesn't realize its blessings " Go ask those hongkies with BNOC now struggling in UK lol.
I have watched a CNA documentary about Chinese illegal migrants. While some of them genuinely have religious motives, such as Christianity, and see the USA as the land of freedom, others, according to their own testimonies, have engaged in criminal activities in China. For example, a banker who robbed his clients' savings and then left China for the USA.
You are spot on Gweilo. We have many Chinese friends who went to the US to send their children to school. Most came back after a short time when they realized how bad things were there. Cost of housing, food, crime, discrimination…
100% insightful! I just came back from a trip to China and was enlightened about this subject. I met so many Didi drivers and our tour guides sh*t talked nonstop about xi and had this fantasy impression about the US They think our gas is cheap, we get everything free, including healthcare. Even a waiter can earn $2000 a month, and everyone is rich! When I told them it take me almost $100 to fill up a tank of gas; all it takes is ONE catastrophic health crisis to bankrupt a person; $2000a month won’t even cover your rent, they were dumbfounded, and refused to believe me. Later I learned that these were the poorest Chinese. They blame the government for their lack of skills and wealth, and THESE freeloaders are the ones coming to chase that pipe dream and get their freebies from the land of the free Oh, another thing, they can talk sh*t about xi and won’t disappear
1. People who want to escape from deep debt. 2. Fugitive. 3. People pratice cult. 4. People who believe they can make a better living in the dreamland.
5, color revolutionaries 😊 ( CIA backed process to America as a deal) 6, we really don't know their nationalities only reports and claims - they are stateless

The grass looks always greener on the other side of the fence until you get there and realize that the grass is not so great even though media implys otherwise.
I think parts are true. Some people could look at how Gweilo's late wife decided to get treatment in Canada rather than China as a sign of a lack of trust in China's healthcare or a lack of comfortability in China (though of course Canada is not America). However, I also think that the people involved in the blank paper movement to push for an end to lockdowns were also propagandized against China as Gweilo discusses in the case of those crossing the border to America.
Simple answer. The grass is greener on the other side until you get there. Of the 10 to 12 million (approx.) that have crossed the southern border only 0.03 are Chinese. Yet they are described as an army and army age. It is all a very sick joke.
I live in China, have been here for years, amazing place. The idea that Chinese are rushing to the US is just dumb, to be honest its rare to meet someone from China who wants to move abroad at all and that's not surprising because CHina is just beautiful. Also because of generational living Chinese people are always living together with grandparents, grandkids, the family is great importance to them, they aren't just going to run off to another country for any reason. It would shock the Western ego to realise that Chinese people just arent that interested in the West at all, they are very much focused on their lives and families and while they are a little curious with Westerners, their main focus is always on whats in their lives at that moment. they dont live in media fantasies, or global conspiracies, they live in how work is going, how gran and grandad are feeling, what the weather is like, how the family is, how their lives are. Healthy people.
I saw the interview from these people (from China to USA illegal). Most of them said because the currency rate 1:7 between USA & China.... So they thought they can make more money$$$. But some of them didn't expect cost of living in USA are so high & not convenient like China. Their life quality are worst than they did in China because they don't have high education. Their job are hard, long hours low end job.
There was an independent reporter on their YT channel who interviewed the Chinese entering the US from Mexico. It wasn't thousands it was only about 20 in a couple of camps. They said they left because they had a criminal record in China and felt a better chance in the US.
Well said Gweilo 🎉. Some people believe the western media religiously... Just ask those Hong Kong people who moved to Britain. As for the rich Chinese who buys properties all over the world, they did it because they can, plan and simple.
@ 10:17 , Wealthy Americans have bought very expensive residential real estate in Britain, France, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland. Why anti China critics have not elaborated on these wealthy American’s reasons for living abroad?
Many are not even from the mainland. They are from other countries with a Chinese diaspora. Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, S. America, Africa, and others.
It's the CSIS (Canadian equivalent of FBI)that declared that , after their investigations. It is the Trudeau liberals as other politicians who benefitted from the interference (usually monetarily) and are trying to have the whole thing buried.
You know your propaganda is working when a homeless guy feels as much a patriotic duty to drape an American flag over his cardboard house by the street as a guy living in a ten bedroom apartment
I would almost bet that those China Chinese who arrived at the USA will be shocked to learn and to see that there are actually poor homeless White people in the US of A.
I spent over a decade in the States and they think that they are the top of the world I am from New Zealand and this is way freer than the states and the infrastructure is way better (roads excluded) but a myth that everybody else lives below their standard. I own a house that took me 10 years to save for ,with 2 kids and it would be worth millions in the states with the privacy ,birds, lack of crime and native bush everywhere . that is where I live in the South Island and they would not believe my situation that I could get to here in 15 years. can't do that in America today.
In any country, there is always people looking for a better life until they settled down. Chinese people were in Africa in the early days even Africa economy was bad. There are many reasons for people to decide on where they go and do!
@ 9:49 , of that “10,000” Chinese illegal immigrants entering USA, some of them are citizens of Central and South American Countries - they did not travel from China to Mexico then through the U.S. border.
Even if those illegal migrants actually originated from Mainland China, US statistics show there were only 36,000 Chinese illegal immigrants who crossed the Mexican border in 2023. That is 36,000 out of a population of 1.5 Billion or rather, a miniscule 0.0024% of the population of Mainland China. In the meanwhile, a record 18,000 Americans relocated to China in 2023. That's 4.16% of the population of the USA.
When I was newly married to my Chinese wife, my MIL literally thought America was so rich they have free housing, food, and healthcare for everyone.. that no one struggles in America. 😅
Yup, I follow Chinese social media, and you won’t believe how many still keep saying the similar things, like able to buy a “mansion (they thing all the single homes in the US are mansions) and Mercedes after working just 5 years. And all the negative news coming out of US are CCP’s smear campaigns.
Not all Chinese are from China. You have 1.4 billion hard working Chinese in China and 7 million in Hong Kong etc. In Asia, You are competing against 99% of the population. But in the US, most Asian immigrants are probably at least top 40% of the class. And many are top 10%. The other thing is rich and connected people can buy a degree in the west for their not very hard working or not very smart kids.
There’re 1.4 billion Chinese people in Mainland and not including overseas Chinese, people think differently and there’re some think that the grass is greener on the other side because of the disinformation strategy used by some countries. Whenever they go abroad and will notice the huge differences from China, most of them would feel regrets, but some are stubborn to admit that.
Americans are the largest group of illegal immigrants in Mexico. The Mexican government has been accused of hypocrisy in terms of illegal immigration for criticizing the US government for its treatment of illegal immigrants since Mexican laws are considerably harsher.
I know there used to be large percentage of Chinese from fuzhou (福州) illegally entered US because their relatives/friends needed help in their restaurants (Fuzhounese must have cornered 99% of the Chinese restaurants in the US). This percentage may have dropped recently. I know now one the new field for illegal immigrants is the illegal marajuana grower.
Most immigrants go to the developed US for a better standard of living. Salaries/wages are better relative to comparable jobs in developing countries. Unfortunately, recently safety seems to have been reduced in some cities and hate crimes against Asians has increased.
salary might be higher in the us but everything else is also higher in the us and what job qualifications for what pay, everything is relative, there's no black and white.
America as the land of gold and fortune of the old still believed by a minority of ill informed people. Some hardworking low income or small business people because of individuals' circumstances and misrepresentation by "people smugglers" , like their forefathers, are willing to give it ago to take the risks to venture over in hope to earn more money over a shorter time than at home. The reality for them is hard! Some will succeed, most will find themselves not really better off with all the sacrifices.
Money is the other reason. Many will just work a few years and send all the money back home. Property investment for the rich with higher rent returns, then send the money back home. Not just the Chinese, nearly all immigrants do this.
China has all along been walking the talk and never to rest on its laurels the way US does. On the positive note, what Western media has bad-mouthed about China will indirectly enable the Chinese government to pound even further in its future endeavours which currently what it has achieved is already so many years ahead of the West. So, it depends on how one looks at it perspective - wise.
After the "One child policy" the Canadian government made a change in our immigration policy. Any foreigner could immigrate to Canada without any hasle as long as he was bringing with him over 500.000 USD to invest here. Here in the Montreal region we have the town of Brossard that saw an influx of Chinese wealthy families in the 1980's, 1990's that wanted to maintain their traditional values that having many children is the sure sign of wealth and prosperity.
Gweilo. It’s all about making money. Money is the Chinese God. Starting wage is 20 dollars an hour for a minimal job. Or Marry an American etc. that’s Chinese!!
Yah it is very true that most if not all immigrants who come to US are for economical reasons. US has done a wonderful job to flaunt big shinny cars, while fence and green lawn…
Chinese mindset is to get rich by trading risk and hard work. Just like my parents decades ago. If you can earn more like 5 to 10 times more than in China, you will go for it and retire early and rich. I had a helper told me that he son immgrated legally to US and left in a month because the sin makes the same amount in China as in US. However, $2000 US is like 14000RMB. That's very good income in China. He can have a life and enjoy his earnings. People migrate mainly for money.
Quite a few of the men are Vietnamese. Some of the immigrants are friends of the Vietnamese students who are goimg to school in California. 😅 Oh, I was just told that they don't like it here so as soon as their parents send them money for a plane ticket, they will be gone😅
Some people in foreign countries outside the U.S. bought into the "Wizard of Oz" story of a yellow road laid with gold all the way to the fabled U.S. castle of unlimited wealth to be plucked off the floor. I used to be one of the munchkins until I woke up to see the nightmare I was in instead of being in the dream.
I can explain the reason. In 1989 - 2000 thousand of Chinese travelled to countries in South America, South Asian countries, thinking that they have a chance of striking eldorado either in USA, Canada, Australia, EU the transit places were South America and South East Asia. Being very persevering they lived in the transit countries wheeler dealing and inhabiting casino to have free meals and entertainment, until they find a way to enter the western countries, the chaps who are entering USA with its open borders now found a way to enter USA. Their roots with China are still there, but they are now between 35 to 40 years, to restart their life in China is difficult, because the present day China is too competitive for them, they are better of to eke a living in the western countries, There are a atleast 2 to 3 million Chinese presently , out side of China with out proper residence.
It is easier to get in to a western country as a refugee than as an immigrant, of course everyone not only the Chinese will take advantage of that. It could have been easier for my family to enter Canada as refugees because of the civil war in Guatemala, for pride my father didn't want to be a refugee so it took longer to fulfill the formalities and requirements to immigrate. Waves of refugees from US also poured in to Canada in the recent years, they were fleeing the US to avoid deportation.
Here in Northern Ohio is a labor shortage .Younger workers don't want to work or what is the problem ? I think many Chinese have jobs already line up .64 plus million abortion so let the newcomers have U. S. We will be displace for our own women here in U. S. must want it .
salary might be higher in the us but everything else is also higher in the us and what job qualifications for what pay, everything is relative, there's no black and white.
My advice if you want to go is apply for an immigration visa. Those travelling through Mexico are often attacked, kidnapped and robbed by criminal gangs.
Hi Kirk, I do enjoy watching your channel and have been watching regularly for the past 2 years. I agree with you that US is number 1 & 2 at propaganda and discrimination. That said, I am a former refugee and my peasant farmer parents came to the US with nothing in 1980. With true grit, my parents raised 8 boys in the US. I'm able to get a free k-12 education and graduated with a bachelor's degree with 6 figure salary. I sponsored sister's family to the US in 2006. My niece, who graduated from Temple, said she would never had the opportunity in China to get into a university had I not sponsored her and she has no desire to move back. To each its own, propaganda or not. Although, no country is perfect every country has its problems. If you are poor, US is still the land of opportunities for the those are willing to work from the bottom. I am very happy for China's progress and I root for both countries. I am not a fan of any politics though.
In China terms, 2006 was a long time ago. China undergoes astronomical changes every 3 years compared to the west. Everyone can get into university in China as long as u get decent grades. The difference is whether your grades are good enough for an elite vs. average university in China. Please explain to me how if you're poor in America today, you can still work your way up and have FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE. The American dream died decades ago. If American dream is still alive, there wouldn't be record number homelessness in US today. Canada is more or less the same. Btw, Canadian born Chinese here.
@@willchu The American dream is still alive and well for those immigrants and refugees who are willing to work hard and start from the bottom. How many of the record homeless are of hardworking Asian descent? The majority of American homeless are those who are too lazy to work because they feel entitled. Unfortunately many are drug addicts. I am not sure if you have ever been to NYC or Philly. The recent waves of Fuzhounese immigrants have pretty much dominated NYC (Manhattan, Flushing, Elmhurst and Brooklyn) and Philly Chinatowns. They bought old dilapidated houses, fixed them up on the cheap and sell on the high. They open laundromats, opened take outs in dangerous neighborhoods or all you can eat buffets and they all drives BMWs and Mercedes Benz. In addition, if you are poor in the US and have decent grades, you WILL get a nice ride to universities with grants, scholarships and favorable loans or tuition aids. I know because that is how I got my college degree (my parents did not pay a cent) but I will have to pay 100% for my children because I am consider a middle class. That said, I have a lot of affinity for Asia and hope to retire like Gweilo60 in Asia, in about 10 years from now.
Being abroad makes you more patriotic” because you think of the convenience of your motherland, such as shopping in the same city, taking the bus, ordering takeout, and using the mobile Internet。20 years ago, when I went abroad, I thought: Wow, this place is so beautiful, I’m so envious, I want to live here too, and maybe even have a little inferiority complex; When I go abroad now, I think: It’s worse here than here, the hygiene is not good, the transportation is average, the facilities can be improved, the infrastructure, ah… The inferiority complex is gone, and I am more modest and confident。
I think the opposite but depends on the country I am in. When in China I think wow why can they do this with high speed trains and subways and when I am in the Philippines I think like you do. What the F. So, I think it all depends on where you are.
Going abroad has made me question everything about the US. Why is this middle eastern country so family priented? Why does this African country have better roads? Why does this central Asian country have a high speed train? How come I can walk the streets anytime of day or night in east Asia and not have to worry about getting attacked or killed? Any why are we always going around the world blow sh%% up and to unalive people who don't deserve it. Why does our government lie SOOO much. I used to be Team USA. Now, not at all.
In any country, the poor and low educated will immigrate to other countries that would offers better salary for the same or less work not necessary policies but economics of the country. Education is fierce in Asian countries so families will send or move so their children will have a less strenuous and better chance of getting into university. The rich have money so like to spread it around the world to reduce risk and taxes as well as jet setting around. US and Europeans do that pretty much as well.
If you start with a box of blue ink and a box of red ink which is 4x more concentrated than the blue one, carefully put them together with a semi porous divider in between, they will slowly mix. The thermodynamic entropy too great !
Something similar happens in India, its someting to do with moving qualified people from a rising economy, lot of things said by the media are similar about China India, media says thousands of rich leaving India,Donald Trump says in his campaign Indians come to the US become rich and go back, nothing fits together, but the reality is both countries are producing better entrepreneurs thats why economy is rising the US needs such people
How many is a lot of Chinese entering the southern border? I've seen the figure 37,000. Is that a lot? Well, 37,000 is only 0.0026% of China's population. That's totally insignificant.
During the past decade over 15 million Hispanics illegally entered the USA. During the past 25 years, nearly 50 million of them have illegally resided in USA. Just to put the numbers into perspective.
Wrong. Chinese diaspora from mainland China. Those Chinese could come from anywhere in this part of the world. The cause of the diaspora was the famine in China.
Let's do some basic math. There are around 40000 people at the boarder. 40000/ 1.4 billion. What's the percentage? Yeah, that's a lot. People don't have common sense.
I saw only a few dozen Asian looking people, not even a hundred. There's no evidence they were Chinese, they could be US residents hired to stage for the filming of the news story.
@@frankornelaz8234First of all, who says they're illegal? Hell, you people even claim Biden flew them in. If your own president did that, that makes them legally entering. "Illegal immigrants" is just the new slander for immigrants. I'm surprised you don't just call them brown and yellow. It's basically Trump just unilaterally calling them murderers and rapists. Just another white supremacist arsenal of propaganda wordplay. Remember the last time they tried this? They called them ISIS infiltrators.
We need maids. And if they want to party with their time off and do something stupid at least they don't have to worry about disappearing. Our prisons you watch TV all day and eat well.😊
@@user-pr1ll1zy4n There are professional human smugglers responsible for two routes, one from the sea and the other through the jungle. Most of the people who go through are domestic debtors who sell their houses and borrow various funds to work abroad.
Remembers me about somebody from Romania. He heard how much money he could earn in Italy. It was 2001, Romania was at this time not in the EU. He thought to earn as a construction worker 2,000 € a month as * illegal in the country * no experience in construction work * no knowledge of the Italian language.
