Chinese short spear (hua qiang, or flower spear) sparring in the old University of Toronto Chinese Martial Arts Club back in 2015. This was a real sparring session, unrehearsed and we were really trying to get each other.
Nice and smooth. Though the title misled me a bit. When I hear 'short-spear' I assumed it would be examples that are around the size of a walking stick or long sword, those seem to be longer than their wielders are tall. Still good though.
I would imagine spears used as walking sticks or everyday civilian use would be on the shorter side. I think I read somewhere that such spears would be 6 to 8 feet long compared to the military/pike formations that used 12+ foot long ones. I think spears by nature do have to be a little taller than their wielders depending on how they're used. As a longer distance ranged weapon this makes sense. Though I suppose if it were the kind of spear you'd throw, then maybe you do want something lighter and shorter but just tall enough for the reach you need for other uses.
