Not only very cheap accommodation and tuition fee, but also all universities have a few giant canteens to provide 3 meals per day for every student at very affordable price. In fact every year China has 11 million students graduated from universities. None of them need student loan.
From what can be seen on Douyin videos, university dorm-mates living in close quarters could result in life-long friendships. Most of these young people are living away from home for the first time ever, exploring independence, making new friends and perhaps dating. As well, Chinese universities are like a huge social blender, with students coming from all over China, from different social backgrounds. Upon graduation they would be dispersed all over China again. It's a good way to break barriers between distant provinces. I do wonder if foreign students mingle much at all with Chinese students. If they don't, that is an opportunity missed in their educational journey.
Debts on which they are charged interest at the going rate. The debt is wiped out after 30 years, but that is a long time to be making payments on top of all the other costs of living.
This is even cheaper than I thought. I thought it would be US $600 a year. It is pretty clear that Chinese government really do look after their people. It doesn't guarantee success but at least it is affordable for everyone to attend colleges. You have a bed and a desk. Obviously the foreign students can afford more expensive rooms but they are still way cheaper than what US charge for foreign students. I think US charge at least $50K for resident tuition a year for foreigners.
Chinese government doesn't look after its people. This is not proof of that. The Chinese government looks after its elite. They also look after their Olympic level athletes as part of their sports machine. These are not 'the people.' These are human resources operating at a high level. The same level of support is not extended to a factory worker or an ethnic minority in the grass lands.
In the words of the great sage Nelson Muntz...HA HA. Your still a loser. BTW. How much do the Uyghurs pay for their rooms. A lung, maybe a kidney, possibly a liver or heart?
@@NN-hg4em It's horrifying and one of the main reasons 45 did what he did as the legacy media fell all over themselves to hide it and calling him racist and xenophobic...... it's nightmare fuel
At least the students are not obligated to take out $50,000 loans for their undergraduate degrees. By the way, there are many university graduates working in retail or fast food chains in new york.
If you don’t look it from a perspective of where this is meaning no pre assumptions whatsoever you know, and just think that you were one of the parents to see the dorm for your kids. You will find that everything in this place has everything proper prepared for people who stay in the complex, like a area for bike parking, fire escape, laundry, balcony (balcony!!!) etc. not at all in some other western countries.
Crazy money isn’t it. We were “lucky” it was around £3,800 a year for room and food and the room was a single en-suite! Oxford uni is particularly cheap! Because it’s a rich uni the university subsidises everyone. She came away with a debt of around £40,000.
My daughter is now working in China teaching English to little kids. Her flat is only about £150 a month so they are really ripping off the foreign students charging them £400.
Fifteen years ago I paid £225/week for a single room with en-suite bathroom and a shared kitchen for each floor in a London university. Tuition fees were extra.
Nah ;thats actually very high rent for China 3000 yuan can get better place outside the dorm, students still have to pay for electricity/wifi/hot water and other utility like washing/drying machines and many other facilities , you cant work so you really need ur parents help that why many student work illegally
@@wenyichen5515 That's true. I was comparing apples to oranges failing to consider other factors. Here in the west (Idaho), water/gas/power are included in the rent even with the cheapest dormitory of at least $500 a month, and that is sharing the unit with 5 other people.
@@wenyichen5515 I dont need research,I lived in Shanghai for year , around 3000/4000 yuan can get u a small apartment , mine was 3700yuan , 3000yuan for just dormroom is too much in my opinion but students like to live in campus cuz it's very convenient
But don't forget that most universities in China get limited international recognition. Don't say protectionist policies cause that but given there are so many diploma mills in the world it's human nature that most HR would prefer graduates from universities that they are familiar with instead. Studying there as a foreigner would mean you would get limited career opportunities returning to your home country unless you would like to work in China. Not dissing anyone or any country but I would like to say "everything has a price".
Actually, studying as foreigners in a Chinese University don’t got any advantage in career seeking from companies in China given that if they want some sort of “international sense”, there is plenty of “haigui”(Chinese returnee from studying abroad) or overseas Chinese for them
Foreign Students are ONLY admitted to Chinese Universities with Academic Recognition Agreements Certificates with other Nations ,which China has with over 180 Countries. Some major universities also offer classes strictly in English. China also employs Professors from other countries including the US and UK
Jame, university graduate is the starting point of the career, after enlisted to first job. It is your own motivation and preservation to keep upgrading your career irrespectively of your shortfall. There are many opportunities for you to progress further. Some of the jobs needed close relationships and some needed peers motivation. In my company there are many foreigners recruited with high degree and expected to know better with extra university degrees. However, they do not perform what they should be in their careers with knowledge wise very shallow but talk exceptionally well. They are smart in manoeuvres things that not as expected after repaired. In the Asian operated industries these dead wood should be warned and then dismissed for goods.
I went to university for undergraduate back in 2002 in China, and my dorm cost was 1000 RMB. 6 girls lived in the room with a balcony and washing room and bathroom. It was more spacious than the 4 beds Dorm. We were happily living together.
It should go by dorm price. Meaning if the Chinese student can afford it, he or she can pay for the nicer room. Else it’s a discriminative treatment. It’s a bad idea to segregate students by nationality.
Looks pretty decent by South African standards. Obviously you can pay for private residence too. Usually that is expensive but some people offer low rates to students in their homes.
The prices may seem really cheap to Americans. To Chinese people, it may be a lot of money. I lived in China 20 years ago and somebody working at McDonald’s then was making $.40 an hour. It’s all relative. Until you live in China or spend quite a bit of time there, you might want to think about judging them. Yes, it’s not perfect. The people are wonderful and friendly. Very outgoing.
The cost for the dormitory is really cheap even for the Chinese as it is heavily subsidised by the government. As you said it was 20 yrs ago! Have a check at the living cost now in China.
@@user-yn6jz9jf9p interesting. I’m guessing lots of these people who are commenting have never been to China and do not understand Chinese culture. It is a different mindset than what westerners are used to. Thanks for pointing that out.
@@livinlavidaluke If you are an international student, it is basically more than 20,000Rmb, unless you have a scholarship, but judging from the current situation, more and more student will study in China, so this scholarship will become increasingly difficult to obtain.
They already earned their bachelors and masters. You would not be admitted to do a PhD except in the US were I know of people who don’t have a bachelor but are admitted to do Masters and PhD
Absolutely nothing wrong with the way these people live they are there to pursue and education not living it up and enjoying life that comes only after you have graduated and got a job and paid your dues
Nanyang university , Henan Province, There is also one in Shanghai so it could be that one according to what the Italian student said when he spoke about jobs.
Grad Student Dorms in the USA are much nicer and, if you are a PhD student, you also get housing and a living stipend. I have been inside the Grad Student Dorms for Princeton, Columbia, UCLA. And they are super nice. The major problem is the 25K living stipend that is given to PhD students doesn't go very far in the USA. So, the cushion for discretionary spending after handling basic costs means that you can't do things like go on dates or holidays or fly home to visit parents...unless you get money elsewhere.
Well in India too we have such kind of shared rooms. In my own college days one of my friends didn't get along well with his roommate to he requested for change of room and he was given room with some other roommate. But overall it's fun and not a big issue.
To be honest,l'm china is very good, but, only chinese education is the least common in the world,l have seen many students jump off buildings, people are very common, but a student who dropos out of school will think he crazy .machine translation is used.my brother is still using antidepressants.
if u wanna pay the foreigner price, u can live in the foreigner apartment, u can even rent a apartment outside the camps, just most Chinese students don't do that, Because the standard dormitories are so cheap, just like that PHD student said Basically free.
When i was in the university, u can literally live in a hotel inside the camps, it's a 3 start hotel with lobby and room service and everything, But of course u have to pay the hotel price.(couple hundreds RMB per day) and remember the standard dormitory is less than 1000 RMB per year back then.
The more foreign students, especially western ones, that the CCP can attract to study in China, the greater the leverage the CCP has over western governments should it decide to invade Taiwan. 😁
Buffalohead, what makes you think that after graduated, they will employ in the farming and fishing industries, which are parts of the trades people desires. Any industry you start to work, you must have your own motivation and build up your skills and knowledge to achieve your goals.
