Do you know why it gets so cold there? There's nothing but a couple barbed wire fences between you and the North Pole and one of the fences is down!

In Australia, you can get strips from Clark Rubber. I used it on a circular water tank, with a steel corrugated top, that had been replaced and cut with tin ships… razor sharp. The company that did the job had no idea of the potential danger they left us with. I did inform them, but preferred to make it safe myself, as I was not confident they could get it right.

That's the preetiest tank house I ever did see. The flat and trim colors work well. Them some tough hands to run along the fresh cut edge of plywood. I've used Bag Balm for two centuries now. Can't find the anti-septic any more. That is a fine, well thought out design for those boxes. I'd have oiled inside and out on that wood. Ya spose that plywood last even two years? I sure do appreciate the scenes of the landscape. Thank you.

Great video! I didn't pay attention in college and I didn't learn very much but two things I have always remembered is that windchill only affects living things and that insulation requires a heat source to be effective. You are only doing what every rancher in the northern plains does to one extent or another. I realize you don't have electricity at that location but a heat lamp would do wonders for your targeted R value. More cows would create more usage and would also help with freezing. I would gladly buy some bred cows/heifers to run on shares to help increase your herd size. I enjoy all your videos!!!
@robt2151
@robt2151 Год назад
Just wondering how many cows would be required to generate a viable quantity of methane?
@andrewevans1658
@andrewevans1658 Год назад
@@robt2151 more livestock equates to more water usage not green new deal foolishness. A water tank and plumbing system with constant use is less apt to freeze .

*- Wonderful warm hats you made, Dave.* *- You are smart not to open up the protected water area.* *- You would have trapped the frigid air where there had been precious 'warmth'.* *- On a still air and bright sun day, put on the 'fur-hat' tops.* *- Three straw bails width out on all sides will prevent the cold from penetrating the ground.* *- The snow drifting will help insulate everything.*

Dave. We have faith in that you know when to expose the pipe and water. Maybe construct a quick bisquine shelter around the area, to eliminate the harsh cold, just long enough to get the covers installed. Winter is here and it’s probably not going to get much easier.

Glad to see more on this project, was afraid we'd see little more. I am wondering how the insulated stock tank is doing minimizing ice formation. Also wondering what the temperature of the water coming out of the spigot is, when you first start drawing water and just before you stop. Hopefully the ground is warming the water a bit between the storage tank and the stock tank and the temperature in the storage tank is holding up. Another enjoyable episode, like all the others you've put up. Thanks for the time and effort you put into creating them.

@goldcountryruss7035

One or two (used?) solar panels and a suitable water heater element placed in a metal pail full of rocks or sand could put a lot of heat most winter days in the bottom of that hole. You would get 3.41 BTUH of free heat per watt hour of energy collected. The rocks or sand would act as a thermal battery dissipating the heat overnight. With proper component selection there would be no need for any controls except for a simple disconnect to turn it off in the spring or for the unlikely need for maintenance. With the low winter sun angle the panels could be placed near vertical on the tank shed wall to facilitate self-cleaning of blowing snow.

Can’t blame you for holding off and not risking freezing the water lines. A truly wise builder knows not to drop the ball at the 11th hour of a project, and speed the work because of the work conditions and / or nearing the end / completion of the work. You know people that never toiled or know the trouble surrounding one’s work really can’t appreciate what it took to build a thing without knowing the conditions in which the work was Created. Was it an ideal fair weather day or a harsh winter’s day. No doubt many of us would like to leave a message to the future observer of one’s work … For example: This thing was created and built during a pandemic while shortages on supplies was the norm. At this point we may hear our father’s voice: “Leave well enough alone.” The water is doing it job … it can wait until the wind dies down.
