these look great, nice practical features throught. i like how youve combined some of the best features of both socket and tang chisles into one, while adding atleast one usefull feature that neither have (the ability to flatten the whole back)
Here in the country of Philippines we are using made in England and made in Germany. The old fashioned type of chisel we used since England and Germany this two countries in Europe they were exported us during 19 centuries until now and the quality of iron metals is the best. For more than 30 years I am a wood carpenters specialist.we commonly used tools and equipment for carpenters widely used for Filipinos. This is your illustration and explanation now this is my first time I had seen this kind of chisel very nice and comfortable to handle and to used it I feel is good and better the handle is detachable and it's easy to clean near the portion of the neck of the chisel I like it. I hope more industry and manufacturing will be exported in our country Philippines, so that this kinds of chisel we can buy in our nearest market hardwares and we can try to test and used it. From where country are you? Please?
Very cool. I'm in the process of down sizing and will go to a hand tool only workshop. I've got a Wishlist as long as my orangutang arms now it just got longer
This makes me wonder if a round, turned, smooth handle really is the best and most comfortable. This replaceable grip idea makes it possible to try out alternatives... Hm...
Would it be better not to have the flat landing at all, and for woodworkers to just be aware of the possibility of that sharp edge along the side... and therefore lightly deburr that edge instead of having any landing at all?
Hi Rob. I've bought your saws from classichandtools in the UK before. I wondered if your IBC chisels would be making their journey across to that store at any point? Might be slightly easier on the shipping cost that way (selfishly speaking!). Also, will you be doing a 17degree version of your smaller chisels as per your previous video on using chisels in soft woods? Just to add, they look like a fantastic product
hi Rob, do you flatten your back of your chisel all the time? or i saw another video of your where you just create a slight micro bevel at the back using a thin ruler?
hi Rob, as always a fantastic tool. is so refreshing to have a master woodworker who knows exactly what he wants from a tool and not only makes them himself but suppliers them to us. I have a set of lie Nielsen chisels which I keep in work and I was gona buy a second set for working at home, but now im thinking I will get yours to add to my other Cosman tools. but I had a question_ where L_N have a wooden handle yours has a metal cap and I wondered if they can take a pounding for chopping operations given that its a screw on type. Cheers Rob_ love the videos and your tool's
Hi Rob. I bought the Shapton stones (6k&16k) after I saw your videos. And when I prepare the back of chisels I do get a mirror polish but I also have visible skratch patterns that isn't from the previous grit. (Different angle on the pattern.). Is this normal or did I get a bad stone?
It doesn’t appear that you got an answer. I hope this reaches you. The chisels came with a scratch pattern. It’s part of the manufacturing process. You have to walk them down with grits just a bit finer than they are, then work up to 6000. Otherwise, your efforts at polishing took out anything close to your 6000 pattern, but left the deeper ones. The polishing really brings them out.
If having the back super flat and highly polished is so desirable maybe they should ship from the factory that way. Looks like a great product, Rob. I'll recommend the video to my woodworking club, Mid-Michigan Woodworker's Guild(mmwg.com).
I know I seem to ask a lot of questions, but I do not trust the people at the hardware stores. I've noticed that woodcraft does not carry these chisels, I also know that you have an agreement with them not to sell Wood River planes to the United States, does that hold true for these chisels? If not can we get them through you? Thank you in advance.
As a matter of fact, that link was correct up until last year when we upgraded our website. Forgive us for not having the time to go in and change each link on all of our free RU-vid videos. But thank you for the heads up, the necessary changes have been made.
I hear ya. If I made money woodworking I'd probably buy 70 dollar chisels.....Anyways, I'm glad there is a reviving market and producers of quality hand tools.
Ah! What the heck. Making my last mortgage payment next month. I may buy a couple of these just for the fun of it. I appreciate your sharpening videos, very smart and efficient as opposed to others on youtube that spend an hour polishing blades.
