Cool church bell sound! I LOVE bells - they really are, along with food and traditions, a part of the 'fingerprint" of a region! Solos in the everyday soundtrack of life for everyone in the area. I can remember the church bells from my hometown and the noontime firestation whistle meant LUNCH... I hadn't heard of most of the cities you guys have introduced me to - but they've all been incredible. The history is so rich. I LOVE that the native spirit is dominant and these sacred places are designed to be shared rather than fenced up and "owned." Also loved that incredibly ornate church... So much gold on so many curvy surfaces - light bouncing around the room.
@TheCountryCollectors

I like that you mentioned that about them not being fenced up or owned because it really is how Mexico is. Everything is shared.

OMG guys, I loved this video! Cholula is the very first place I visited on my first trip to Mexico back in 2008. It's where I fell in love with Mexico. Back then I was able to take the tour of the tunnels inside the pyramid and it was AMAZING! Talk about feeling the Energy of a place, that was it. And Heidi, you must have intuitively known to walk the stairs to the top using the zig-zag steps. That's how the Olmecs, Mayans, Aztecs walked up their pyramids, that's the reason that most pyramid steps are very narrow, they were built to accommodate your feet at an angle, not straight on (and it's much easier). Also, that movement mimics the movement of a snake, honoring the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, known as The Feathered Serpent, also known as Kukulcán by the Maya. Loving your adventures and love you guys! ☮️❤️❤️❤️😎

This is Paul..... and Gloria in Oaxaca. I loved this video because even though we live in Oaxaca, a piece of my heart is in Cholula too. What changed in Cholula to make it hip was the University of the Americas which was moved there in 1970. I was in the first class, September of 1970. From that time on, Cholula would never be the same. In the early '70s Cholula was not a destination nor was it a magic Town. There were few tourists & many of the streets were dirt. I went in that pyramid with candles & sugar to mark my way through the tunnels. I only went in about 100 meters, but still had trouble getting out, and was relieved when I saw the light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for doing this video.

Where I'm currently living in San Andrés, Cholula is more of a modest, working-class neighborhood. Wherever these 'hip' parts are I've so far missed in my venturings about... I live next to an auto-body repair shop, used tire seller, carnacerias, mini-convience stores, small restaurants, small hardware stores, and other small businesses. I'm in an area that is Strictly populated by the local working folk. There aren't any 'hip' types here and I hope it Stays that way(!). There are close by, the larger, newer shopping malls/areas nearby across the major boulevards. There are No tourists in the neighborhood/area I live in and I'm pretty sure I'm the only güero around for a few kilometers. One of the local merchants calls me that actually; kinda humorous... The point of view changes when you're living down here; the touristy white-wash is just mentiras to sucker gullible RU-vid viewers. There's actually a big fight between San Pedro and San Andrés, Cholula as per who's it is more (fight over tourist revenue...) btw...

I love Puebla! The people there are so awesome. I'm from Colorado in a group of students and teachers went to Puebla for many years to study and take classes. We also went to an elementary school for a week to teach the children. It was a beautiful time beautiful weather and Beautiful People. The last year I went, there was an earthquake. Was pretty sad seeing the locals and they're beautiful antique buildings fallen.

@@TheCountryCollectors We left Seattle in Oct 2020 and headed South, crossed the border on election day and arrived in La Paz, 11 days later where we lived for 112 days. Since then we have lived in 10 cities for a month or longer, 9 more for a month or less and visited more than I can list since then. We head back in 6 weeks, and going to live in Merida for 6 weeks or so. We are slowly making our way all the way to Argentina. Our channel is about our journey as digital nomads and info about what its like to live in each city. We have been on the road 633 days as of this post. We have learned a lot in that time, and hope to take the fear out of a digital nomad life for anyone who is interested in doing what we do! We love watching other creators do their thang! My son passed about a year ago, so we put our channel and its production on hold for awhile as we dealt with our grief, but now have found joy in creating these episodes, he was a creator also and I know he would have been proud so I use that as inspiration. Anyway - great job, love your fun attitudes and detailed info.

@@AmoreLifeDigitalNomads wow 663 days that is incredible! What a life you’re creating. I’m sure you’re inspiring many people to live more! That’s wonderful. I am so saddened to hear of your sons passing. My sister died March 09, 2021 so I know that grief unfortunately too well. Not from a parent’s perspective, as I know it’s different but as a sibling. I hope you find your son in your day to days and along your travels. I know he is always with you.

@TheCountryCollectors
@TheCountryCollectors 2 года назад
@@AmoreLifeDigitalNomads thank you! Oh yes for sure! I think if we hadn’t been traveling for 10 years together we would have already ticked off a bunch of countries but since we have done extensive and fast travel before - the kind where you’re in a new spot every 3 days we are enjoying the slow travel here in Mexico. And no we don’t have a home base. I mean we have our parents homes where we keep some stuff but nothing much!
