Rick Danner Exactly, not a fan of most mainstream music but that doesn’t mean we don’t have great music nowadays. Just gotta look deep enough to find the good stuff.
There is plenty of new music coming out every day. There is bound to be many that eclipse music of the past because people are only getting more skilled and knowledgeable
Chon is my favorite modern band, Return to Forever is one of my biggest influences….jazz fusion….to hear Mario Camarena say that RTF is one of their influences, as a guitarist really excites me.
It’s VERY apparent, Especially given that Mario has cited many Pianists in a variety of groups as some of his biggest influences within his playing, one most notable being Tigran Hamasayan. As a guitarist myself I can relate, I feel as though the phrasing on piano compared to guitar is super unique and I love applying motifs originally for piano over the instrument.
The dude is one of the best modern drummers around. People listen to the wicked guitars but the drums are where it's really at in this. The dude is a drumset embodied as a human.
They're mad young and already a god-tier band. Nathan doing the most on that super simple set-up is inspiring. And it's crazy how on point they are playing the stuff
Anytime I listen to these guys, my anxiety & depression kinda lifts for a moment. Just basking in the thought that I am lucky enough to be alive in the same time as you guys and being able to enjoy & listen to this musical masterpiece. Thanks 💕
As a guitar player in the same genre I just wanted to say to the drummer: Dude you don't go unnoticed and I think your extremely under appreciated when people talk about GOOD modern drummers. I'm not a drummer but damn I'm feeling ya every time I listen to chon. People need to open their ears just a we bit more cause dude is killing it. Songs sound great by the way guys and the new bass player is just grooving.
Brian Evans (Nathan's drum teacher) tracks drums for nearly all of Chon's recorded material. Nathan did record five of the tracks on Grow and four on Homey (check discogs.com and Wikipedia for specifics). The band has never commented on the rationale for having Brian record the majority of the tracks, outside of saying that they enjoy collaborating with him and other musicians such as Anthony Crawford, who has recorded (and likely composed) all of the bass guitar parts on the last two albums. Although Nathan is a phenomenal drummer in his own right, it can be inferred that they may be using Brian to record some of the technically tougher material. It also stands to reason that Brian is actually composing and/or improvising a lot of what you hear on the albums.
Maaaan I love this live show so much. I always come back to this video. Listening Chon and to watch their progress over the years its one of this once in a lifetime things. I feel blessed.
i was blown away when i saw their live show. Explosive and energetic on live and even wirhout a vocalist your eyes and ears would be glued in to their performance.
I always thought Chon was an extremely pleasant band to listen to. After watching them for the first time, I'm even more impressed. They perform effortlessly, with such good taste and musicianship. Incredible!
@efa666 no way dude, he's quiet and super muffled. Only thing coming through are the basic held-out notes, most of the dope fills and intricacies of the bass are buried in this mix Compare it to this live vid, super audible bass: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cVJh_ameyt8.html
I’m just about 64 but I’d love to just lay on that carpet and listen while watching them play songs. As a non musician but totally sound oriented and with a strong musical ear. I’d just be in awe watching them and how they produce different sounds.
i love this Rose wood so much better here than the actual recording. I come to this video lol Idk what their story is but it reminds me of me and my husband 👩🏻❤👨🏻👩🏻❤👨🏻🌴🌴❤❤
I feel like this band is three guys playing three different complicated riffs at the same with the weirdest drums you can think of and it all just works so well the talent on these guys is insane
I always loved their guitar tones. Mario's compressed but it sounds like the tone is slightly rolled off but the clarity is still there and Erik's is a dash brighter/livelier on the treble end. They compliment each other so well in tone not just their playing. It's almost like they have had the same guitar teacher, same influences, and have been playing and touring together for 15 years.
So many difference in this band, i know the ep 2008(the best for me) i like so much the old drummer, but this stage of the band is super different and quiet, the drummer soound so nice with 2 cymbals, i love u so much guys, u mark me all of my life, some day come to argentina pls. love u
That snare drum sound is what dreams are made of!! Btw, you guys skipped The Netherlands again, I need to see you guys live. Come to The Netherlands please!!!
