I just had surgery 2 days ago for chondromalacia patella. I’m 32 yo but have had increasingly stronger indicators for the last 10 years. Surgery went great! MRI showed only slight abnormalities including a 3cm Baker’s cyst, but my surgeon found a huge chunk of Grade 4 loss on the underside of my kneecap. He had only planned to go in with two ports, but had to make a third to salvage some of my good cartilage elsewhere to patch up the patella (graft). I’m still in an ace wrap from toes to thigh so I can’t speak too much on outward scars. I was full weight bearing immediately and only used crutches last night because I was at a ball field with uneven walking paths. I won’t say it isn’t painful, but I’m willing to get through this if it means I won’t have nagging pains all day every day. I just had hip surgery a few months ago, too, but this one is at least easier to sleep with. First day was the easiest, yesterday (day 2) was pretty rough. Today has been a bit better than yesterday. Also, I’ve been in physical therapy for my hip and knee for 9 months. The steroid injection offered for my knee lasted 2 days….then everything continued downhill again. I hope this helps!
