I got a wooden nest that is very popular here in mexico, is basically a wide log piece with the ends covered with an aluminum plate, it's called "nido de quiote" and the first one to get interested was the male and he started carving on it (the logs have a very strong bark and a soft inside, the birds have to chew it all out to make their own nests, leaving only the bark with a thin layer of soft wood) and after 2 days he finally got the female to pay attention and then she started to carve as well! now they both take turns and I read somewhere that this helps a LOT to get the female into breeding condition. My male is 9 months old and the female is 18 months old.
I had a question my grandma got me one of those for my birds and i was wondering when they chew on it what do they do with the pieces that they chewed off
@@isaac8999 oh they make a huge mess, the floor of the cage will be covered in little wood pieces, they don't eat it, so you don't have to worry about that, only about the mess
Perfect timing! I've been researching a lot about breeding budgies because of recent events. I had three boys but while I was away on a trip (they had someone watching them ofc) two of my babies have left (passed away). And now I have a single male. I've been wanting to change things up a bit and get a female budgie to breed him with. I am a bit afraid that he's past the age of breeding (1-3 years) but he can't be much older than the age of breeding. So I'm going to try and find a rather young female and let them bond. I'll probably breed them at the beginning of next summer break if things go according to plan and I get her soon. That way, when the chicks need care the most, I'll be home with them. And once it comes time for me to continue school again, they'll be a lot more stable and independent. And of course, I'd get a much larger cage to house the chicks when they're old enough. I plan on taming them, of course.
Hi I really need a budgie experts help! My birds laid egg and we had no idea if they were fertile or not, so we didn’t get a nesting box. Now one of the eggs hatched, is it too late to get a nesting box? Please help me
budgies prefer a clean nest but you can try to put bigger pieces of sawdust, wood pellets, oats.. if the budgie doesn't like it, she will eject materials. the grass is not recommended, only sparrows, finches, canaries and other small birds use it. just give her wooden nest box with concave inside it 😝
Most of the people in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan use pots for breeding budgies. I myself also used pots for breeding budgies and they bred successfully. What do you think of breeding budgies in pots?
I'm not really sure, but for me wood is better, the bird can chew on it, it's soft for eggs, it's easy to set up control the eggs, it's not heavy, it's easy to clean it etc.
When I breed my budgies for the first time, they had a a few fights. idk why maybe the cage was too small and the female wanted space? The female was the angry one. The male would preen her and it was they loved each other. But then a few weeks later she fought with him :( All the babies survived. I had to separate the mom and dad though.
My buggies is male and he is 6 months old and my parakeet is 5 months I know there are probably many more answers to this but can buggies and parakeets breed? I am not ready at ALL to help them if they breed they are my first birds. If you have an answer to my question please answer if you can.Thank You!
Loooong Post-but a PSA to inform: If your birds are only 5 & 6 months old (6 &7 now)- then they are still wayyyy too young to let them be breeding yet. No matter how much *you* may want to have "baby burbies" to play with. It's best to not even consider putting a breeding box in their cage until they are AT LEAST 1-2 YEARS OLD. If you let them breed now while they are still too young and still just babies themselves, before they're even old enough yet to make *HEALTHY* eggs/chicks........ then *you* are going to cause them to have several very unhealthy and possibly DANGEROUS issues. With the most dangerous issue at such a young age being-- That all the eggs she makes won't be healthy enough to even hatch..bc she's still just a baby herself. And even if they do..chances are very high that only *weak* chicks are hatched that will not have a very high chance of survival at all. And if her eggs aren't even healthy enough or way too brittle to begin with bc she's still just too young to produce healthy ones-then you are going to cause your bird to get *Egg Bound* ...which means any brittle shelled eggs she tries to lay aren't strong enough and if even one of them breaks inside her or it's just malformed or grew too big for her to easily push out (bc she's still too young to properly grow an egg inside her every other day or so).... it will get *STUCK* inside her and cause her to die! (Sometimes it can even cause her insides to literally start to rot & decay for weeeks before she finally dies.. from the stuck egg/s or brittle egg shells left stuck inside her!). Another main issue with trying to breed birds that are still too young/are still babies themselves.... is that they just simply aren't *MATURE* enough yet to be able to handle all the extra emotional & physical stress that laying eggs/nesting entails and causes for *all* birds. Besides the fact that your female bird has to be working EXTRA hard just to keep enough extra Calcium & Protein in her system for *herself* ... she has even more to do now to try to produce, take care of and maintain a nest & then chicks once they hatch- which will be putting A LOT more extra stress and work on her. The male bird ALSO will have a lot more added stress & work caused by breeding/nesting-bc now *HE* will have to start constantly eating more so that he can help to feed both her AND the baby chicks after they hatch. As well as constantly now be having to help the female with taking turns to help guard the nest and keep the eggs/chicks warm enough. So if one, or especially BOTH birds, are still just too young to be able to deal with and handle allllllll the *extra* added stress & work that comes along with breeding and nesting..... one of three things is going to happen every single time they try to breed and nest. 1-One parent or the other will have a breaking point eventually bc of all the extra stress..... and they will simply start *DESTROYING* either the eggs or possibly even the babies after they hatch! Maybe only 1-3+ of them to make it easier for them to handle the remaining ones...but maybe *ALL* of them, just to be done with them and all the extra work they cause. 2-Even if one or both parents don't start destroying the eggs/chicks to kill them outright....they will just simply *ABANDON* them eventually and no longer take care of them. Which means that either unhatched eggs will get too cold to *ever* be able to hatch and will start decaying... OR that some or *all* of the baby chicks will be abandoned and get too cold/starve to death.. and die. And 3-And all of the above..... is only *IF* your female bird is even able to get any eggs laid, to begin with.... before she ends up getting Egg Bound and then dies, before she can even get them pushed out...bc she's still just a baby herself if still under at least a full year or more old and still has the stripes on top of her head.
how long does it for a parakeet to recognize a nest? my pair of parakeets doesn't go inside it they just sleep in the perch they don't even try to look at it
Are female budgie is dominated? I have a pair budgie but uuuuhh...the female always attack male budgie every he near the female...how to calming she owner?
yes, they are usually dominant to males. it is normal but if they fight till the blood, then you need to separate them. in budgie's world, females dominate 😆
they need to be 1 year or more to breed or they will get unsuccessful mating and many health problems especially females! the cage must be really big, and you should provide 3-4 nest boxes if you have 2 couples. but before that, give them extra calcium, fruits, veggies, greens daily! this video will help you ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vZkE06-paJ8.html good luck ❤️
