Not sure what kind of essential oil diffuser to get? Learn about the four different types of diffusers so you can choose the best one for you.
----------------------------------
This is my favorite ultrasonic diffuser on Amazon because it lasts a LONG time:
amzn.to/33YWbA4
And I LOVE this diffuser stand, it fits the above diffuser perfectly and holds essential oil bottles:
amzn.to/2OXpb70
You can also purchase essential oils here:
my.doterra.com/joannabanana
----------------------------------
Nebulizing diffusers - An essential oil bottle screws into this diffuser. It breaks up the essential oil into droplets and disperses it through the room. Great for large spaces! This diffuser will run until it uses up all the oil in the bottle, it can run for a very long time!
Ultrasonic diffusers - Fill with water and a few drops of essential oils and it puts out a fine mist. Essential oil droplets are broken up using a very high frequency vibration, no heat required! These typically run for 4 hours at a time before needing to be refilled. Some have lights that you can choose to have on or off and some even have timers.
Evaporative diffusers - Essential oils are put on a pad or filter that a fan blows through to evaporate the oil and disperse it throughout the room. The essential oil compounds evaporate at different rates, so this method as well as the heat method does not put the whole oil into the air but only parts of it at a time, depending on how heavy the compound is and how easily it evaporates. Evaporative diffusers also include diffuser necklaces and bracelets.
Heat diffusers - Uses heat to evaporate the oil.
My favorite? The Ultrasonic diffuser!

Nobody talks about all of the extra cleaning oil diffusion creates. Windows and mirrors show it first, but it can also damage upholstery, plastics, paint, and nearly every surface including marble and artificial stone by depositing a greasy film that attracts dirt and dust and then breaks down into rancid compounds.

In response to Mike Cartwright's comment - One of the reasons humidifying diffusers "fail" is because they are overfilled. I always fill mine to BELOW the fill line and I have never had an issue. When I fill them up to the fill line I start to have problems with them turning off. I hope this helps. A really high quality humidifying diffuser would be something like the Aroma Lite. It's a dōTERRA brand diffuser.

Cool vid. Thanks for sharing your experience. I just had my candlewarmer go out on me so I need a new one. I wanted to experiment with some different ideas. The short version is that I thought it would be a great idea to put a battery-operated candlewarmer on my porch to get rid of bugs. Welp... I have not had any luck locating one. The next idea was a battery operated diffuser. So far no luck locating one specifically designed for outside. I am going to keep looking. My nebulizer, the exact same one that you showed in your video, is a beast! I love it! Buuuuuuuuuut it is extremely loud! So I am looking for a 24 hour ultrasonic to replace it. The nebulizer is almost perfect, it is just entirely too loud! I wanted to buy more, but for starters definitely price prohibitive and I see your point about running through oils. I did not think it would be this hard to find a diffuser specifically designed to sit outside and weather the storm. In either case, thanks for sharing. Have a nice day.

+leslie dominic It depends on what you want to happen. If you want a gentle diffuser to fill a smaller space then an ultrasonic diffuser is awesome (check the links in the video description to find an affordable one on Amazon). If you want to fill a larger space quickly then a nebulizing diffuser would be best.

Can someone tell me how much mist the Ultrasonic diffurers create? My room is very humid and can easily get molds on the walls if I'm not careful, I really like the benefits of this diffuser, so much easier to use than the traditional candle ones (which I have currently) but it looks like from the video they create a lot of mist. Is there maybe a type that works similarly but doesn't humidify the room at the same time?

I have tried a few different diffusers and I love the Ace Diffuser (the first one in the video, for those who aren't sure). I like it because it's very easy for me to travel with since it doesn't need any water. That being said, I also really love the Aroma Lite diffuser (which is a humidifying diffuser that uses water). I have a large house so I have two of them. I like that I can just throw in a couple drops and turn it on. And it is much easier to make custom blends by simply putting in a drop or two of a couple different essential oils. Great video, Joanna!
@joannabananaberry
@joannabananaberry 9 лет назад
Maegan Silva That is one thing I forgot to mention about the humidifying diffusers, it is easy to mix different oils together for your own diffuser blends. Maegan do you make your own blends in old essential oil bottles for your ACE diffuser?
@maegansilva1958
@maegansilva1958 9 лет назад
Joanna Banana Strawberry I have done it, but because it requires an additional step and more oil overall, I tend not to make my own blends for the Ace. I think because I have to refill the water in the humidifying diffuser periodically, it seems like less work to mix my own blends (even though it isn't actually less work!). Besides that, if I want to try an experimental blend, I only have to use a couple drops of each in a humidifying diffuser whereas I would need several of each in the Ace.

Joanna, we just purchased a new home that is awesome except for the not so lovely aroma of cat urine. We've cleaned and scrubbed and done all the right things but it still lingers. My aunt gave us some thieves oil and we diluted it and sprayed it in those areas and it worked very well but seems to only be temporary. She thought we might have success if we used a diffuser in the problem areas and that it would cleanse those areas permanently over time. What are your thoughts on this and if applicable, what would be the best type of a diffuser? Also, have you ever known anyone to successfully replace the oil in those Airwick or Glade plugin diffusers with essential oil? Thanks - Dick

@joannabananaberry
@joannabananaberry 5 лет назад
Hi Bobbi, the amount of water vaporized from an ultrasonic diffuser is negligible, but with a nebulizing diffuser it would assure no more moisture in the air. Some essential oils can kill mold spores, so putting essential oils in the air with a diffuser might remove airborne mold. The only real way to take care of a mold problem is to get out of your house. Essential oils will only mask the problem and you will likely continue to have health issues even if using them. That being said, they would be good to use in the interim until you are able to take care of the mold issue. Good luck to you! Blessings, Joanna

@joannabananaberry

+Daniel Cannata Since it will still be heating the essential oil, it will still have the same effect, the whole essential oil will not be in the air at the same time, the lighter molecules will evaporate first, then the heavier ones later.

When you say top notes evaporate first and then the others in the evaporative and low heat diffuser, are you talking about the notes of one essential oil or a blend? Also, like in perfumes, isn't it a good thing that the notes come up at different times?
@joannabananaberry
@joannabananaberry 2 года назад
I'm talking about the notes of one essential or a blend of essential oils. Regardless of whether it's one essential oil or a blend of them, they will each have top notes which will always evaporate first. In a perfume, yes it's quite lovely when they evaporate at different times, but if you're using essential oils therapeutically, some say that the components (notes) work better as a whole, synergistically. To get the whole effect of the oil at once is thought to be better from a therapeutic perspective.
@danlightened
@danlightened 2 года назад
@@joannabananaberry Hmm yeah, but people usually suggest to make blends of at least one essential oil with top note, one with middle and another with base note. Are they all supposed to be in the air together? Isn't the whole purpose of using different notes is that they evaporate at different times?

I am looking into using oils in my practice, and was wondering about placement of the diffuser and how it affects the aroma in the room. We take care of children so we need to find a place where they wont mess with the diffuser. I've been recommended to use the AromaLite to address my concerns of a larger space (the office is 1900 sq.). However, would using the AromaLite at a higher level prevent the aroma or therapeutic effects from penetrating the room? Is a nebulizer a better option in this case?
@joannabananaberry
@joannabananaberry 9 лет назад
Dr. Jessica Harden For that many square feet I would suggest a nebulizing diffuser. It will disperse the oil through the room a lot better than the AromaLite could. But, if it's just in a waiting room that is only a small portion of the 1900 sq ft then you can probably get away with just the AromaLite.
@steveperry7799
@steveperry7799 8 лет назад
+Dr. Jessica Harden Make sure you are using only 100% ORGANIC oils..........
@fields0fgold
@fields0fgold 6 лет назад
In reality organic essential oils are not always the best. How do you know this? Quality of oils is determined by scientific testing called GCMS , gas chromatography and mass spectometry. These are two machines that test oils as to quality. I will talk on another blog as to how this equipment works, but for now organic oils often do not qualify for premium using these tests. How can organic oils not be premium or the best? You need a fundamental understanding of what essential oils are. The best quality oils are produced by plants under stress. Oils grown in the wild tend to test high for this reason. When you use organic methods, the plants tend not to be stressed. I call them happy plants. Essential oils are made by the plant to defend against attack, disease, damage, or severe weather conditions. Most evergreens produce high levels of essential oils, as they do not have a time of rest and recovery. Because organic oils come from happy plants and not stressed ones, they do not need to make high quality essential oil, as the plant does not need it. If you are buying organic essential oils, ask if the oil meets premium or therapeutic levels. The organic oil you are buying may be a great oil, but the organic label does not tell you that. The point can be made that organic oils do not have pesticide residue. Most plants that produce essential oils have the ability to defend against pests and do not need pesticides, but this is not always the case. Sometimes growers will have fungal outbreaks and will use chemicals. There is not a grower alive that would spend the money on pesticides and then cut the plant material and distill it. If the plant has been sprayed, there is only chemical residue left and it will not distill. These chemicals being larger molecules will be left behind with the plant material. Essential oils are small molecules and they can float in the air or evaporate.
@Kras3169

Do you happen to know of any humidifiers that you can safely add essential oils to? I didn't notice the warning sticker on my Homedics humidifier saying not to add essential oils, and now it leaks. And if not, do you know of any large sized ultrasonic/humidifying diffusers? Any recommendations of something I can buy easily at like a Bed Bath and Beyond or a similar store?
@joannabananaberry
@joannabananaberry 9 лет назад
Kras3169 I don't know of any humidifiers that you are able to add essential oils to the water. In the cases I've heard of, this really damages the units. Some humidifiers have a little tray that is meant for vicks vapor rub type stuff, that the steam passes over as it leaves the humidifier, and you are able to add essential oils to this. I have done this in the past, though it's not the best way to diffuse oils! An essential oil diffuser would really be your best option.

Rajan Amin Adding water to the essential oil might ruin a nebulizing diffuser. I would just adjust the timer and intensity settings so that it's not running very hard for very long at a time. 15 minutes on, per hour, is a good guide to go by.

Hi! Great video! 😊 what do you think, what would happen if I put Fanta or other sugary drinks into a ultrasonic diffuser? Would my room smell like fanta? Thanks!

I hope you were kidding when you said that. Cause that is a really bad idea.

How about one that wont clog up, that has a cup insert?

+dj458 dj458 I have not heard of ones with a cup insert, but I'm curious about them now, is there a specific brand? I haven't had any trouble with clogged diffusers before. In your experience which diffuser type tends to clog?

If you use citris it could foul up.

+Joanna Banana Strawberry The Whisper Diffuserer DOES have a SEPARATE soft CUP insert. It is suppose to prevent clogging that I hear - some of the oils, produce -(& told not to use)

+CMV Robison Are you thinking of a humidifier?

+Joanna Banana Strawberry Hi, I dont know! I am just learning about this. I want to buy a diffuser, but the more videos I watch the more confused I get. I cant afford an expensive one. So, it is not good to put the oils straight into the water only if it is a humidifier? But, if its a cool mist we can put the oils straight into the water? Is this correct? Also, how do we know if the device is a cool mist or not?

+CMV Robison If it's called a humidifier then don't put essential oils in it, even if it says it's a cool mist one! The essential oils can potentially ruin the humidifier. Only use essential oils in a diffuser. A diffuser is specifically made for essential oils. The "humidifying" diffuser is a diffuser that puts out a mist in order to disperse the essential oils into the air, but it's nowhere near how much steam is put out from a humidifier. So, it depends on what you want to do - if you want to diffuse an essential oil, you need a diffuser, and if you want to humidify the air, you'll need a humidifier. You can use both at the same time, but not together :)

+CMV Robison Also, there's a link to an affordable diffuser from Amazon in the description of the video if you're looking for one! :)

+Joanna Banana Strawberry Joanna, you are so kind to answer my questions. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! During flu season, all my children's rooms (I have 4 children) always have cool mist humidifiers on all night. But, I know about the power of essentials oils. So, I also want to add diffusers in their rooms, I just dont know which one to get. There are so many different kinds, and the prices vary too much. I am leaning towards an ultrasonic, but even that varies so much in prices. A lot of these diffusers have led colored lights, which is exactly what my children do not want. They want to sleep in dark rooms with no light (me too). Anyway, my research goes on.......

I have had first hand experience with the Aromis aromatherapy diffuser. also known as Orbis Nox Merus. This diffuser gives off a "burnt" essential oil smell that is nauseating. I watched all of there "how to" videos, bought their signature oil to use with it, and read the instructions top to bottom before I even attempted to get started...very poor results. I have contacted the company to return it so we'll see what happens. It was very expensive, over $100.

Essential oil smells are very personal. I make my own mixes using only pure essential oils, not mixes. I mix my own. It may be the Aromis "signature oil" that is nauseating. Read up on essential oil recipes and try making your own. Experiment until you find what you love. It's easy ! Bless you.

I’m about to buy one on Etsy from Aromis. Did the problem ever get resolved. I’m wondering if I use different brands it will work.

None! Oil diffusers are bad for your lungs, and coat everything in your room with oil.
