Yeah storms can be tricky. In my area of Arizona we have some winter storms and some summer monsoons with big dust storms. My client's pools run usually nights from 10pm - 5 or 6pm cause the electricity's cheaper then. So when we have storms they just run as usual. If it's a big one (like a Haboob, which is a massive dust storm) I tell my clients to run their pump(s) for an additional 4-5 hours after the storm to help it out, AND if I'm not gonna be there for several days it's a good idea to clean the pump and skimmer baskets as well.

@@PoolSchooler Thank you so much Kenny! I live in Surprise, AZ and man oh man those dust storms can be horrible. I’ll take your advise and extend the run time to clean out the dirt. I noticed last time my chemicals were not affected but I can tell there was extra dirt at the bottom of the pool. I’m thinking with extending the run time and brushing towards the drain will work. @@tbone4075 Yup, our dust storms can be brutal. Sounds like you've got a pretty good handle on things. One note, after a dust storm and you run the pump awhile, you may want to clean your filter media (if it's a DE or Sand filter) to freshen it up. If it's a cartridge typically I have my client's cleaned ever 6 months no matter what. Keeps them ahead of things like Mother Nature. 👍

I do, but it depends on what city you're in. Phoenix may be too far for me. I'm in the East Valley.

I'm sorry it takes me so long to answer emails. I honestly get between 100 - 300 emails a month plus comments on my RU-vid channel and my priority members of PoolSchooler.com so I do the best I can. I agree with you about the hassle of cleaning them and Sand Filters aren't super efficient unless you use the Dr. Dryden's Activate Glass Filter Media and they still have to be backwashed every 4 weeks or so AND then there's the DE filters that are the worst of both the other filters not to mention the health hazard of DE.
