hey mike , great tutorial btw..ive run into a problem thought. i have done everything you've shown , but one i get to midi mapping and select "user" , i turn the top nob to assign the "start" point , but the slot at the bottom of screen that reads "press a midi key or move midi controller to make assgn" doesnt acknowledge the fact that im moving the knob , the "clickable" tab that pops beneath and says negative 2 etc doesnt show up, what gives?
I actually set this up before, I used it in my push sampled beat video. I named my rack 'sample chop". When I chop with warp markers and use the 'convert to new midi track' I chose this rack and everything is set, but when I drag clips into this same rack for some reason it doesnt work the same. Not sure if i'm doing something wrong.
Hey on the choke group part of this video, you can set the first one to a choke group and then click on it and then select copy to siblings and it will copy the setting to all of them.
Great tutorial, I highlighted all the clips and assaign parameters to control pitch and velocity. I prefer to keep them as audio files instead of putting them into a drumrack. It gives you more flexibility, especially when you record a part, consolidate it and then use warp and quantization.
Hi, Love this little video, just a little something to add though. I got my Push yesterday (14th Feb 2014) and the User port wasn't enabled for remote control as standard. I had to go to Live's Preferences -> MIDI and switch on Push User Port in 'Track ->On' and 'Remote -> On' before I could map the start and end markers to push in 'User' mode. Cheers.
Peace, Sun. I went through this technique with every controller I have (Akai MPD32, MPK49, and Maschine in Controller mode) and it the start and end markers don't move as fine as you are doing; it moves in increments of 250 or so. Is there a way to really do this with any other controller? Or is the precise scrolling only possible with Push? I'm stumped for right now. HELP!!!
Mine did some weird stuff like that too. I just tried all those settings at the bottom till I found one that worked right. Maybe its a different setting for your controller. I sold my MPD32 or else I would figure it out for you.
Do you think it's possible to do all of this w/o interacting with the pc? I'm a little hesitant to make the move to Push (I really really want to!) because I don't want to loose the awesome sample editing capabilities in Maschine (1.8.2). I'm thinking I might just keep the Maschine and load it as a plugin in Live and use it as my sampling. #imtorn
I was having trouble getting live to receive input from Push when in User Mode. Read here on how to set up Live to receive info from Push in User Mode - go to the ableton website and add this to the end of the address: /en/articles/push-user-mode/
I'm pretty sure if you delete them all it will not save your settings. When I tried it with live 8 it didn't work, prolly because my settings were in the clip itself.
I had this problem in the past. My scroll wasnt smooth, it would jump. But with push and these settings this didnt happen anymore. Guess maybe it is the controller. This happened with my MPD and my LPD8.
i dont have that type of intricate control with the start and end.. it jumps drastically. thought my nob was broke so i assigned it to something else and it was fine
thanks wasabi.. im getting frustrated finding tutorials for ableton.. feeling more like work and less like fun.. i even said eff it and paid for a lynda tutorial and it had the same problem as free tuts.. i think the problem is that the people making the how to's are all ready far along in the learning process and kinda forget the beginner struggles
haha.. im about 4 days into my break after 2 weeks of tuts.. i always forget about reddit, even reddit failed me.. everyone suggested this guy that makes tuts that spent the first 18min talking about his finger.. im gonna try again when im less likely to punch myself in the face
What I don't understand is if you're duplicating a clip with the start and end points mapped to midi won't the points be messed up on the first clip by editing the 2nd one? What am I missing
I'm missing something here guys. I have map mode enabled but when I go to move the nob it doesn't seem to recognize therefore i'm not getting to the "relative 2 comp" option. can someone please walk me through this, because I would love to learn how to sample using this technique.
Aj Santana I'm not sure why. You may have to change something in the midi setup. (live, preferences, midi, midi sync) Probably have to enable certain midi ports.
Again this video is how to chop samples with Ableton & Push like maschine. For those that say use slice to midi or use the macros in the drum rack that has nothing to do with maschine. I know and use those methods, the point of this video is get the MASCHINE sample workflow. And this method DOES NOT time a lot of time, its a one time set up.
Load an audio track with a audio clip. Make sure the track is selected with push. Hit the button that says clip. There you can set the start points and length of the clip without touching the mouse. Having clips locked to certain notes in user mode will make you spend more time setting up new sets. If you think about it and create blank drum rack like this you could load 127 cells with the same song and adjust with a macro. Search 'The Last Drum Rack You'll Ever Have to Make" VIDEO
Thanks for the tutorial but this can be accomplished in normal (Not User) mode by loading a clip and accessing the macro parameters at the top of the push. This tutorial in fact takes twice as much programming to get the identical result.
i watched your video and copyd ur lil tech here and eveything went well, chopped up some ub40, but after i realized there was an easier way to chop it... *** IF YOU CONVERT THE AUDIO FILE TO MIDI, it will give u the option of how u wanna chop it up and itll make a nice little drum rack for u with everything in line... also user mode is a biatch...
that was really helpful.. thank you so much! But that high frequency flute was so irritating.. Please choose a less irritating sample next time for the video.. hehe
Good work around, but this is what is fundamentally wrong with the push. This option should be in drum rack. They need to some how be able to edit, and trim within drum racks. Until they get that to work, then maschine is winning. This same time, I would of been jamming already on maschine. This is coming from a ableton fanboy
Yo man peep this if you haven't seen it. It's a hack script that adds some pretty cool functionality to PUSH in User Mode. Pretty dope.... Isaac shares Ableton Push "Hack" Script PXT from Native Kontrols
i want to do it with a bcf2000 controller. but midi values are just 0-127 so how can i slow down the endless encoder on my bcf ? any idea how to do this without makin my own max patch ? :D
