Choplifter 1985 Sega Mame Retro Arcade Games 

Kids today will never know the screeching sound of a hostage getting killed under the helicopter. I pumped a lot of quarters into this game. Amazing gameplay!

The opening is great "That helicopter! Its here to save us!" Machine guns open up....

If Sega decide to put out more Sega Ages stuff, I'd love to see this and Bank Panic. Both games deserve to be updated and preserved.

One of my favorite arcade games. When I first played it I was hooked.

Loved this game as kid - I now realize that what made me hooked on it it the swoosh-swooshh of the helicopter blades. Top three arcade with Wonderboy and Kung-Fu

Brilliant, one of my all time favorites. Never did get to the last level. A very underated game imo.

I saw this in an arcade a long time ago and decided to play it on a whim. No regrets. I was hooked immediately and had a lot of fun.

Back in the day, it didn't take me long to master this game. This was when Sega was gaining traction in the industry. I remember hearing the hostages screaming if they got shot or crushed by the chopper.

Kids now a days, will never know the real life of gaming :-D

I remember flying backwards through caverns well. Such a good game. One trick was to rapidly hop so those tanks don’t come. 07:15 Cheat mode engaged. 😂

I have the PCB in an actual arcade console...this game is so hard, and you make it look so easy.

Omg.U don't know how meany years i searching this game!I remember i played in a Game hall in Hungary (i born in Hungary) and i played this game but i remember not enough just 20 hostage escape and always falt in the 3th stage,maybe 30 or more need escape.I onlye 10 years old maybe when i played now i almost 40.But so mutch good time spand this arcade game for me. THX so mutch now i know what need to download the MAME simulation.God bless u!

And those initials at the end... Who knew that Richard Stallman was an ace at a proprietary game. I didn't realize the SMS port of this game was actually pretty good. The arcade version is clearly superior, but the difference isn't as big as you'd expect for a port to an 80s 8-bit console.

Wow, the Master System/Sega Mark III version is way harder! If you touch anything, you're dead: enemies, ground and buildings that weren't destroyed beforehand. The port is very well made, though. Graphics and sound very similar to the arcade, as it seems.

The only arcade game i was really good at. I could pass all four levels over and over again and even flip the score board. To play it properly you MUST have the actual arcade flight stick joystick setup =)

For years, I didn't know what this game was called. I must have been only about five years old, when I played it a few times on a machine at the local chip shop (A British thing.). I was absolutely terrible at it, I didn't understand the gameplay aspect at all. I was just happy flying the helicopter, and was annoyed at everything in sight trying to shoot me down. For the sake of closure, I need a rom hack version which removes all the enemies and just lets me peacefully fly around.

I notice the originator played out the 5th sortie to dispense of his lives. Does that mean the game keeps repeating the sorties over and over or was there an end to the game?

Amazing, Sega took an Apple II game, and made an arcade version.

@NadrianATRS I think this game was actually supposed to be about Iran. It was made a few years after the American hostages were being held in Tehran

The difficulty is fairly extreme; you'll take ground fire from cannons, tanks, and jeeps, as well as air fire from enemy planes. You can't stay in any place for long, especially when picking up prisoners. This is one exciting game.

I can't get this to work on MAME anymore - says the ROMs are no good, and also says "no good dump known" for some of them. Yet it used to work. Any ideas?

According to game sack, this machine is just 8bit but i doubt as the graphics & sounds seems to be 16bit,, unless only the cpu is 8bit,, or it uses 8bit chipsets along with expansions and tricks to simulate 16bit,am very curious about this.

Nes versoin is the only 8 bit version instead of the 7800 and SMS versions, that had the 4rth sortie stage, with the new city. Still like the 7800 and SMS versions better though.

I have this actual arcade cab in my garage.. It's hard as SHIT.. It's fun but man can it piss you off with no continues.... This "mame" looks way easier.. I do like how you know to tap up while people load to stop enemies from shooting..

well played, i got to 3rd level with infinite lives and just gave up it bloody hard but in an addictive way. has anyone ever completed this???.

There's a really cheesy tactic on this. If you fly backwards and just stay in the top corner then all ground fire misses you, you just have to focus on the jets. Works for first 3 waves, then you kind of have to play normally on wave 4. I don't think the programmers knew about it.
