Chopping Corn Silage near Greenville Ohio
Video from September 2020 of a dairy farm near Greenville Ohio as they chop corn silage and bag it for their dairy herd. In this video a John Deere 4555 tractor is pulling a New Holland FP240 forage harvester with a 3 row corn head. Also in the video you will see them haul the silage wagons from the field back to the farm and fill the silage bags.

Hey Mike that hitch disconnect and connecting was super impressive. Never saw that before. Thanks for getting the ground footage of that. Thanks for sharing Mr Farmhand.

As cool as the SP forage harvesters are to watch, there's something extra nice about watching a pull behind working. Seems like a very satisfying way to spend a day to me. The night time drone stuff was great!

I grew up on a farm with John Deere tractors, but not this big. It's cool to see so much power packed into a 2-wheel drive tractor. Nothing runs like a Deere.

25 years ago when I worked at the feedyard, we ran 5488s and 2-7240s on 2 row Hesston choppers. You got into good corn it was all the tractors wanted.

I have to agree with you Mike - it is nice seeing an old pull-type chopper going to work. I also agree that the 4555 is handling that chopper pretty well and has probably been turned up a little. Nice video once again!

Real cool Mike. That's how I remember silage harvest--except those hitch assists! Those would have been awesome!

Great video Mike. Not really sure why the 4555 tires are on backwards, I grew up hauling wagons with a pull type JD 3975 chopper, and a 4960 as the tractor running the chopper. I ran a 4020 with one of 3 NH 3 axle forage boxes.... that was right around 20 years or so ago... thank you for the trip down memory lane... catch you at the next one.

@@deplorablelibertarian really are you serious , liberals alleged human types . Tire lugs point forward in the direction of the work that is attempted to be done on a driven axle . A dead or pulled axle the lug point to the rear .

Is he running the tires backwards on the 4555 because he swapped sides to narrow the wheelbase for chopping corn?

Love the nighttime shots lost the sound at the end of the video for some reason but my question is why are the tires on the 4555 on backwards

This is only a guess, But I think if it's muddy they don't get in as deep.

It was interesting that the rear tires were on backwards/opposite side from normal. Do you know if they did it just to even out the wear or for flotation like they do on the carts?
@farmhandmike
@farmhandmike 3 года назад
I really don't know why they had the tires on like this.
@stubbi
@stubbi 3 года назад
@@farmhandmike They probably just had more wear on the inside, so the tires where swapped from side to side so that the wear is more on the outside of the tire now. Just help having more from the tire over its lifetime.
