We love chorus. There, we said it. But where exactly you put your chorus pedal in your signal chain can make a BIG difference in how your guitar sounds. So we wanted to do a video comparing the tone of a chorus pedal at different places in the signal chain to hear what the differences are.

Where do you put your chorus in your signal chain? Do you use chorus at all?

Stringjoy front amp: wireless, buffer, volume, wah, whammy, pog, noise suppressor, phaser, univibe, flager, chorus, tube screamer, back to the noise suppressor Fx chain: delays, reverbs That’s mine, i don’t like modulation after the distortion (not on my engl ritchie blackmore, not on my vox ac30), unless it’s a modulated reverb...

I use my analog chorus most of the time, as the last step in my chain following a Hall of Fame 2. Since the Hall of Fame tries to bring out the most prominent frequencies in its long reverb settings, having a chorus pedal complicating the waveform before the pedal would seem to complicate things. I'll experiment some more when using more of the HOF2 modes with the chorus before it, since having the reverb trails separated from the chorusing effect would seem like a good thing.

Depends. If it's just a simple Detune, such as the Whammy, DigiTech Luxe or Mooer Pitch Box, I put it wherever I feel it sounds best. Usually before other modulation, after dirt. If it actually modulates the pitch, I prefer putting it after dirt and phasers, before delay.

The "text books" are right. I have always put overdrive etc. first. You don't want it amplifying all the hiss and noise caused by chorus and delay that would otherwise be pumped into it, especially with the quadrant which I sold because of the noise.

Chorus has always been 1 of my faves for guitar. I often put it in with some delay n reverb too.

With my 3-string cigarbox style setup (but via strat as well as acoustic), chorus is ALWAYS on for fullness BUT I have one before light drive and one after delay/verb, getting a combination of Sonic Youth and Cocteau Twins tones. I also use an EQD organizer for octave pad early and my first chorus is also a flanger. This set up is specific to my rhythm board. I also have a chorus on my lead board in standard position but optional amidst univibe and rotary leaning into Kim Thayil type tones.

I think chorus BEHIND delay sounds much better. For that reason, I like it almost last in the chain. Just before reverb.

Does it make any sense to set each pedal controls individually before linking them together in your chain?Example chain of Chorus-Overdrive-Delay. I have heard said that when connected together in a chain they interact with each other so some final tweaking of the controls might be needed.

I got my Boss CE-2 in 1980. I turned it on. I left it on all the time. I turned it off sometime in 1989. I never used chorus again. Must sell vintage 0000 CE-2. 👍😁👍

ok this all might sound crazy since I'm building an effects board for my ukulele, but it sounds pretty cool to throw some effects on my uke, here is how i have it tell me what you think, first my wha/vol pedal then my octave then distortion, then my flange, then chorus and last my delay ? thoughts ?

I would have loved to be able to skim through this and find the section I wanted, but you didn't film the pedals while you were playing. I think it would have been more useful if you were to show that, so I can see the order myself while you're playing.

I’ve just put UniVibe, Phase 90 and stereo chorus before drive. The effects sounded horrible after drive. When I moved them, suddenly I got more top end and could use them with drive. My Leslie sim (Ventilator) is last on my board as I run it in stereo, so it sounds best after my Belle Epoch.

Me too... after reading an article from Wampler about univibes before dirt I tried.... muuuch better. After dirt is just a washing sound. The vibe dominates and squashes the dirt. You just lose all kinds of clipping beauty. I use a Rotovibe right after the wah and before any dirt. Also in Vibrato mode it tracks much better before dirt cause vibrato is essentialy a mini pitch shifter. Will never move it from there

@@vexguine The Rotovibe is a great effect. It’s better than my Dunlop Univibe. I have a Voodoo Lab MicroVibe on my board. It’s great but has no vibe.

Oh you're israeli? Me too. Great video Only think I did not like is you putting a little bit too much of the amp reverb itself:) btw, do you prefer the delay before reverb or after? I understand that in this video you put the delay first.
