You can see here the difference between Zoro (anime) and Mackenyu's portrayal of the character in the live action - Zoro is actually multi dimensional who isn't serious all the times, quite unintentionally funny, bickers with crewmates, and has flaws (he has a poor sense of 🔃). I like Mackenyu's zoro, but i just wish Zoro's complete personality is shown more in the live action.
@emkalina

Mackenyus portays post-time skip zoro who is no longer fun. Tbh the entire cast seem to be more like the post-time seriousy crew.

(long comment) Honestly, that is the whole thing with all the strawhats (and some other character tbh). and I know they created the LA version with a Western audience in mind but... I wish they were closer to their anime/manga portrayals. For example, Nami isn't always depressed and cold like the LA version. Usually, girls with trauma are always portrayed like that in Western media, so I understand that, but Nami's character isn't just her backstory. She is more cheerful when you meet her (which just makes her backstory hit a lot more). The fact that she is one always achieving things for the sake of the crew while the other guys fight was just so good to me (like this ep for example). I didn't mind Nami fighting that often btw, but it just doesn't FEEL like Nami that I knew. I always loved the fact that her fights were few but meaningful. It sets high standards. Like you just know that next time Nami fights is gonna be good/unique. that's how I feel with all the strawhats that don't fight tbh (e.g. Robin, Franky, etc.) Luffy isn't always that dumb and "peaceful". I saw a lot of people who watched the anime after the LA being surprised when, in the first ep, Coby says to Luffy "You think I can be a marine?" and Luffy is just like "How would I know?". Like they took one side of Luffy in LA and that is it. I will not forgive them for making him weaker than his manga equivalent, even Zoro appeared stronger than him. and this isn't bc I'm into fights but it just makes his backstory (the future one) inconsistent with his present character. He trained so hard for years but he just learned how to make gum-gum ballon??? unless they change the whole backstory that would just be meh. throwing that aside, when he stood against Coby in the Usopp arc made me feel they weren't gonna keep him like that forever. (Let's not talk about the Coby stuff bc the LA plot with him actually makes me mad) Sanji isn't always that cool guy. The awkwardness when he came part of the crew was present. He doesn't know how to act at first but he opened up after he became friends with Ussop and started doing dumb stuff with the guys. but I love the fact that they kept his temperament kinda the same, sanji is very emotional at the end of the day. and Although I never got mad or uncomfortable with Sanji's antics (I'm a woman), I understand why they changed it. so Sanji is a lot more acceptable to me than the others. I can't say much about Usopp because he was more of a background character in the LA tbh. ik he isn't the most popular out of the strawhats but prioritizing Coby (in his ARC) more than him is crazy. (just realized my whole comment makes me sound like a Coby hater lol) Regardless, I absolutely adore the strawhat cast and I love their acting. they are just perfect for their role, I just wished the direction they were given was different but oh well.
@markgregorygacosta531
@markgregorygacosta531 3 месяца назад
@@Mars_261I get what you mean regarding Coby. Considering he's not supposed to comeback again until after Ennies Lobby, but they made him and Garp appear right after the Arlong Park incident. I watched a video explaining why they did this - it's because the Netflix writers thought the whole east blue arc was just an aloof sea quest at finding crewmates without so much emotional investment. Thus they went back with Coby a lot and they even revealed Garp's relationship to Luffy right away in the live action.
@CrossriderBankai23
@CrossriderBankai23 3 месяца назад
Yo yo yo hold on, the reason Luffy on LA looks weaker is not because they wanted to change it, it's because Netflix was so scared to spare enough money for the production that they had no choice but to shorten the times that Luffy uses his powers, we all know that in the anime Luffy always use his powers no matter what, but just think about the perspective of the LA team having no time, no enough money to put into the work, and Netflix pressing them hard to not waste too much money because they was extremely scared One Piece Live Action could flop really badly, so Netflix held the producers hostage 💀 what I mean is that Netflix fucked up the LA, if they wasn't scared, could invested way more money, the people working on the production could make more CGI for Luffy using his powers to anything, we could have way more quality, we could never see these battles happening in night time, they choose to do that so the CGI could be more easier to do in their short time they had, the big pressure for Netflix for them to finish it, the long hours of filming, and other important stuff, now that we all know the LA was a success, made a lot of money for Netflix they will set the bar way higher but also with fear, they won't give too much money, they will repeat the same thing from last season, 8 episodes (unfortunately) it should have like 10 episodes, since season 1.....all I believe is that season 2 will look better, visually and with the special effects....I strongly believe we will see Luffy using more of his rubber powers, the characters more accurate to the source material and more.... If Netflix can spend 200M for a movie and flop it really bad, imagine if they didn't have concerns for One Piece LA, it coube be the greatest live action ever...in my opinion the Fishman should be all CGI with help of good makeup, just like Pirates of Caribbean, with that quality....but it's Netflix, they will never do that... let's hope that season 2 will be a success everywhere, so they will make season 3 the best!
@Mars_261
@Mars_261 3 месяца назад
@@CrossriderBankai23 I mean, wouldn't it help them to lessen the time of the fight? Most people who watched only the LA didn't care/know about the fights. I don't think any of them knew they will see supernatural powers, but fights like pirate of the Caribbean. If they made it like two minutes, it would be fine. But idk how these things work so eh. The fan could make an uproar too but... A small but good things is better the long and not of quality, I saw many ppl talking about the way Luffy stretching doesn't feel like the punch is actually strong. It's wobbly. But oh well. That's not the reason for "I just learned what gum gum ballon is" I'm sorry it just doesn't make sense to me. It like the most basic move of him even. But if they are gonna do better next season then it's cool. I legit don't care about the fights/power level but if they made the ASL flashback in the future, how would it make sense in the future for him to struggle with freaking Morgan? The thing that made me really surprised is the makeup department. The Fishmen look just as weird as I would have imagined them irl.

Stylized character animals are always voiced by humans in anime. Only something like a generic dog barking in the background of a scene just for the ambience of it will be the actual dog barking sounds. A real dog can't act like a humanized character when needed for an emotional scene like here in case with Shooshoo. It's on purpose.

Anime luffy is so much more unhinged than the live action its insane
@HaohmaruHL
@HaohmaruHL 2 месяца назад
That because a live action can't be a zany cartoon no matter what. It's always limited by the acting and the budget for CGI. Meaning everything is toned down and reduced to regular events of regular dudes in regular cosplay clothing. All the style, all the physical comedy, any world building possible author's imagination in the manga panels or with animation - all of it is completely thrown out the window. Even reducing Arlong to human size in the LA says a lot about the LA. Imagine what they'd do to other characters and locations. Being bland with a pinch of cringe on top is the maximum a live action can achieve. This is why in any given case animation will top any live action. With animation anything is possible and your imagination is the only limit. But the live action is just a poor attempt at mimicking an already existing superior animated series. It just has no place to exist. If someone has to watch a poor messy western fanfic summary of a popular show just to make themselves get into the actual thing - then it's totally on them. Maybe such people should reconsider their view about brushing off a goof TV series just because the amount of episodes scared them or something?

"Anything he can think of on the fly" Remember that Luffy ate his fruit when he was VERY young and hes a very imaginative and determined guy. Hes likely had plenty of time to practice his powers. PS: Fun fact: Seeing as Luffys lungs are made of rubber that would mean that when he breathes in they expand instead of having a set limit to how much air they can be filled with, thus if he breathes in dramatically he practically becomes a.....you guessed it...BALLOON!

Zoro's attack "oni giri" is indeed food, it means "riceball" which he probably took from rika the little girl who brought him riceballs when he was imprisoned but it also means "demon slash" since he is described as a demon throughout the story, fun live action/anime fact: in the live action he's making fun of luffy and sanji for naming their moves but zoro in the anime is the character with the most creative attack names out of everyone 😂

About the name "Onigiri" of the attack that Zoro did at 17:34, it can be seen as kind of a play on word. The term can mean "Rice ball" (おにぎり), but in this case it's actually「鬼斬り」(onigiri) that is composed of "Oni"(鬼), often translated as "Demon" or "Ogre"; and the verb "Kiru"(斬る) that mean "to kill with a blade". Almost all the names of Zoro's attacks are based on various Japanese mythology and folklore.

One Piece doesn't really get drawn out until after episode 700ish or so. That is when they were starting to get caught up to the manga and needed to draw it out to keep it a weekly show. So, you don't have to worry anytime soon about that. As you can see, the anime is different from the live action but you basically eventually end up mostly in the same spot.

Onigiri is the food the kid, Chika gave Zoro when he was imprisoned by Captain Morgan. The attack can mean the food or Demon Slash/Cutter. Is a play in words, Oda thus a lot of that, but most of them are only caught by Japanese people. Chuchu story is basically Hachiko story. Google it, Hachiko story is a real life story and was used in real life to inspire the japanese soldiers in World War 2.

The theme of these episodes in this island, is "Treasure". Each one has different idea about what's a treasure and what it means.. for the dog, the shop is the treasure.. For the mayor, the town he built over 40 yrs is the treasure.. For luffy, the strawhat entrusted to hime by shanks is the treasure.. And finally for buggy, the treasure is in literal meaning.. just gold.

What Oda is really good at is fleshing out his characters. He creates a backstory for every character he puts in One Piece a even if he doesnt put it in the manga. Sometimes those stories are so good that his editors are convincing him to actually add it to the manga even if there wasnt plan for it in the first place.

Things like ChouChou's story are things that prove Oda's greatness, because he hasn't stopped doing this since then, and remember that he has always presented us with incredible stories from the beginning, ChouChou's story may not be as great as the next ones but it has something special just like basically all the stories and side stories that Oda tells, and again, from the beginning of all

It's to show hoe your worldview and attitude about things can affect your life. Buggy likes to blame people around him for his own fails. It's the reason he keeps hearing everyone mentioning his nose without anyone actually saying anything about it (most puns in the show are lost in translation, but work well in Japanese). Oda jusxtoposes Buggy vs Luffy. I'm his earlier one piece prototype manga, before onr piece we all know now, Oda already trued to introduce this concept of good pirates vs bad pirates. Though, it was morr on your nose than here.

In the Live Action, they only showed The Mayor and Chou Chou for a brief moment when the crew were leaving the town after releasing the townspeople who were chained up in Buggy's circus. The mayor offered Luffy snacks and Chou Chou ran pass in the screen.

'Onigiri' is a riceball, so similar to sushi in that it's rice and seaweed, but different preparation. It's a play on words, because it can also be 'oni' (demon) 'giri' (several meanings, including 'slash', I think)

Praise Oda for his work and masterpiece of writing One Piece. But also appreciate Toei for adopting it into this emotional anime. The OST, the beat, the rhythm, the directing and the emotional moments relived in 2-D animation.

As many people already mentioned, Chouchou is one of the live action's many easter eggs for fans of the anime, you should rewatch it (even if you don't stream the reactions) after the East Blue arc. Also, Season 2 will probably be much more enjoyable being anime fans.

chouchou episode feels like oda testing the emotional impact he can do to its viewers so when he wants to add a really emotional scene he knows how to hit us viewers good... also you can see chouchou in the live action

Good catch on Zoro's move name. Odo likes to do puns and other word play...so most of Zoro's moves are homophones to different kinds of food. E.g. Oni Giri (ogre slice) also sounds like o-nigiri (type of sushi). Also the LA references Richie when Buggy first does his intro - he complains that they don't even have a lion to mohji. The LA Buggy also mentions his past with Shanks when he's torturing Luffy and notices the hat.

Loyal Zoro from the get go, like literally playing pirates, is suited for anime.. and Live Action Zoro not playing from the start, vowing to protect Luffy's dream after Luffy defended his..is suited there.

About Zoro's attack Oni Giri, it's kind of a word play I think. Oni Giri means Demon Cutter and OniGiri is riceballs, which is also Zoro's favorite food.

Haven't seen One Piece in a while. Checking the wiki, I'm glad that Richie survived. #RichieDidNothingWrong 9:29 "Buggy has got to be put to rest" I will not STAND for that savage attack on GOAT Buggy! 12:40 "anything he can think of one the fly." Luffy acts dumb but he's a canny tactician in battle. He had plenty of time to practice moves before this.
