Why are we pushing this narrative about getting A.D at all costs? It would be great to have him of course, but if I gotta give up my 3 or even 4 most promising youngsters, I don't want him! 1. I like to have a core of drafted and grown Lakers cuz they're more attached to the team, more involved in the community and ultimately more willing to sacrifice than a bunch of mercenaries ever will. We have a great history of drafted players: Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Gail Goodrich, James Worthy, Magic Johnson, Derek Fisher, Kobe (technically drafted by Charlotte but he's always been a Laker). Sure we brought some greats like Wilt, Kareem, Shaq, now LeBron, but we always associated them with our core. A modern day example is The Warriors. They trusted their young talents and look where they are now! They only brought K.D and Boogie after years of growing their core. That's how they could afford them in the first place! 2. I also like to have a bench, cuz I'm not gonna win the NBA with just Bron and AD. I mean look at now, we're missing 4 pieces and we're struggling with our rotation. Imagine losing Zo, B.I, Hart and Kuz altogether... who's playing next to Bron and A.D? Who's subbing for them? Come on man... 3. I wanna maximize the cost of my drafted players if I'm forced to trade them. I'm not losing them for peanuts when I could double their cost in a couple of years. Is that just me?
