I still think Vince Carter is the greatest dunker ever both in-game and dunk contest. Vince had it all as a dunker.. finesse, power, style, creativity, hangtime.

LeBron never entered the dunk contest cause he was scared to death he'd lose. He can jump but he's not a creative dunker.

This was such a lame duck excuse because it didn't stop LeBron (or his fans) for rating himself as a top 5 dunker EVER. If he believes that, then he would have participated in the slam dunk contest. LeBron's entire career is riddled with lame excuses. EDIT: Blake Griffin put on a great show up until the last 1-2 dunks. It's how it ended as he _limped_ across the finish line.

He didn't do it because he's too calculating and concerned about how people view him. He'd have to risk losing in front of everyone. Lebron doesn't like to compete unless the odds are stacked in his favor or unless he has a ready made excuse for why he lost.

Lebron knows his dunks would be trash compared to Jordan. His dunks would have been Space Jam 2 compared to Jordan’s Spacejam.

What you guys forget is that Lebron was on camera promising that he would be participating in the dunk contest. The fact that...once again...he talked but didn't deliever, was a bad look. Now, outside of that Lebron is not a great in-game dunker, I would say he's a good one. He's good but he's not great. Prime Jordan was the best at it, Dominique Wilkins was great, Vince Carter was great, Shawn Kemp was great...you know guys like that. Lebron is not on that level. Even in his era...I would say a guy like Blake Griffin or even D. Wade were better in-game dunkers.

Joining the dunk contest is not what you have to gain but its for the fans of the league. It looks like LBJ not joining it makes him afraid of loosing or afraid of the competitiveness of the contest. Its making an example to the upcoming stars of the league, to go out there having fun, showing the fans what you got and doesnt matter if you win or loose. Its showing your love and passion for the game.

Not every great dunker is meant for the dunk contest though. Dunk contest dunkers are typically ones who are more creative and can jazz up dunks with more elegance basically. LeBron is moreso a power dunker. He can definitely throw down and can posterize just about anybody, but he isn't someone that I'd necessarily say is all that creative as a dunker. More times than not, that's who wins these contests and does the best. There are rare exceptions like Dwight Howard, but more times than not, big guys who are moreso power dunkers aren't gonna win those contests

Lebron is a in game dunker, he pretty much said that when he was discussing the dunk contest in the past. So he pretty much knew he'd lose especially to someone creative.

I can’t think of one 360, double pump, or windmill he’s done in game. Blake Griffin, Dominique, Carter, Lavigne, and Jordan have all done insane dunks in game. Lebron has the same dunk everytime. He’s a boring player to watch.

Guys used to train more on Dunking. Now they only stand behind the 3 points line. I remember a Right of Passage for a Forward was to be able to dunk in traffic off one step or a drop step WITH EASE and POWER CONSISTENTLY to keep defenses honest.

He never did it bc of the risk of injury. You're there to win the NBA championship and make millions of dollars. It's not the 80s or even the 90s when it was a time to see guys you ordinarily didn't have a chance to see.
