I think that drifting off on the end consonants is in keeping with the soft, breathy feel of the song.

Chris de Burgh was born in Venado Tuerto, province of Santa Fé, Argentina, which was perhaps a coincidence, he is the son of a British diplomat, he spent his childhood in several countries, perhaps this influences the accent you highlighted in your comments. Greetings from Tucuman, Argentina

Why I really love this song yes its not one of his best but this one was very personal and when you're singing a song that's directly from your heart perfection is overlooked.I just really admire the sentiment behind it and I don't think this was not meant to be a hit or win any awards just a simple song dedicated to his wife on the first night they met❤

Chris is of Irish and British parentage. His Dad is British and his Mother is Irish. He still lives here in Ireland 🇮🇪 😁

I think "breathiness" sums up a lot of artists and recordings back then in the 80's. That and reverb.

I don’t think the final consonants were left off. In my vocal training we spent a lot of time learning how use less breath on plosives, so my guess is that they are just very soft.

Hm, of all the songs from CdB's long career "Lady in Red"...well, tastes differ. But as always, your reaction videos are very entertaining! Mr Lavigne, thank you very much! I always learn a lot about music and get to know new artists, that I might otherwise have missed. People like to get stuck in a box of a certain music genre. I'm already looking forward to the next video, and I subscribed!

Since i still havent seen any vocal coaches react to any of these artists and i really hope you look at some of their songs. 1. TK from Ling Tosite Sigure "copy light"(the first take version) or "unravel"(the first take version) 2. Co Shu Nie "Asphyxia"(the first take live version) or "inertia"(the first take version) 3. amazarashi "the seasons die one after another"(on the first take) The reason i put the first take versions is because in my opinion theyre much better and have much more emotion. I guarantee you will love all of them. If you react to them that would fully make my week. They are truly amazing in every way

Great reaction!!This song became the cause to start listening and love Chris songs.Personally,I believe that a lot of the others songs of him are better,and I propose to listen "A rainy night in Paris","The traveller","The head and the heart","The girl with April in her eyes"(His most"Medieval storyteller"style song,etc...

I think the breathy style fits well to the song, but I think it's clear, that he is not the best singer, nevertheless he quited smoking for saving his clear voice. I love almost of his songs. He is one of the best song writers I think.

Well, here we are, with such a romantic song. All of our memories of me pleading for Spiritbox, Rule of Nines, studio one take, and never getting it. Ahh the memories. Not even Jinjer Teacher Teacher, official video, so I plead for 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Murder Song by Aurora, 2015 Nobel Peace Prize Concert. Thanks for the good times. Here’s for all the fun to come.

A good song, but not nearly his best. For those who don't know, Chris de Burgh is the artist who did "Don't Pay the Fairyman" ! I'm much more fond of both "Ship to Shore" and "The Getaway" both from the same album, _The Getaway._

Late to the party but I am gonna be that girl and tell you this is one of his worst songs.... if that can even be a thing. Before he did this he recorded a bunch of conceptual stuff that is mindblowingly awesome and a bit of a cross between storytelling/poetry, rock, pop and prog. In particular I'd mention "Crusader" and "Revolution" which both go through several twists and turns and both have something that is extremely rare today... actual dynamics in the recordings. They also allow Chris to really explore his voice way more with parts where his voice is practically unsupported and hence you can clearly make out the beauty of it.

You guys saying this is not one of his best or its over played in the radio... I would rather listen to Lady in Red by Chris de Burgh over Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond. Now THAT is over played on the radio making him seem like a one hit wonder 🙄
