This has to be one of the finest interpretations of this beautiful old standard. Chris's voice suits the song so well and that acoustic guitar solo is sublime. What surprises many people is that the song was written by a man from Northern Ireland called Jimmy Kennedy.
This is strictly personal. Chris Isaak's bittersweet interpretation of this classic song, lyrics and music by an Irishman and Englishman, is the best version in my book. The second best, again personal, is Gene Autry's 1939 recording on a 12-inch vinyl 78 rpm disc that I listened to over and over again, during another time and place, oooh so long ago…
Absolutely the best ever version of this song. I have heard lots of versions and this surpasses them all. It has a magical quality to it. Truly beautiful.
Terrific, thanks for posting. I like dancing a slow foxtrot to Sinatra's version- this would be a great rumba, it's very different in feel, very romantic. It would be nice if Raul Malo had a try at this too.
