Not one Trump joke ...I miss those days ...don't watch Oscars or any other award shows or any late night shows anymore (same lame jokes over and over again)... To answer the Chris Rock question ...very simple generate box office receipts and you get "paid" and possibly nominated for an award ...Why don't the women who play in the WNBA make as much as the men who play in the NBA? Why don't they get movie deals? or huge multi-million dollar advertising contracts?
I mean, if it involves you, would you agree? Hollywood it's as cliquey as Comedy. You don't step on people's toes and given its capitalism, they can use their filmmaking means of production as they please. They also aren't forced to ve inclusive in their vision. They can have a vision for 10 years and as long as 1 year is inclusive ti not seem racist, in a racial typecast, they're not seen ads racist. They said Kevin was being greedy when the nature of Hollywood is to MAKE MONEY. It's a sorority. A money making sorority with its clique of favorites.
@Valkyrie's Way he was a human being that did his best in life and deserve respect now dead like everyone else. If you want to disagree with peoples opinions on chadwick, do it, but don't downplay the man legacy.
Atleast in US a black comedian can 'roast' Hollywood for being racist and they can laugh over themselves. In India, Upper Castes (majority of them) don't even acknowledge the horrendous torture inflicted upon lower castes every single day - sometimes physical but almost always psychological.
This is such a brave & brilliant performance. You can see & hear that he’s nervous, delivering an unusually consequential & controversial opening monologue to an audience of mostly white liberal elites, many of whom are staring back at him unimpressed. I remember watching this in 2016 & thinking: “oh so that’s who Chris Rock is. This is why he’s so famous.”
The jokes are actually quite stale, as are the awards, as is the academy, as the whole pat on back goes... Nonetheless good for drilling the message home and at least he hits a homer with originality in last joke to tie it up nice.
Chris Rock is my favorite comedian, simply because I notice he sets his audience up to relax and laugh, then attack them directly. It's like Dave Chappelle said about how you can't laugh at jokes about everyone else, and when they target you pull back like it's no longer comedy.
Chris Rock is still a tap-dancing buffoon who makes offensive jokes about black people to all-white audiences. I'm glad Will Smith slapped him that day.
Who else is watching Chris Rock's past Oscar opening monologues since this last show? Outstanding comical genius! I really hope he doesn't let Will Smith's dumbass deter him from hosting future Oscar Awards shows.
@@harrywirrelson9628 Twice max? Bob Hope hosted the Oscars 19 times and Billy Crystal hosted the Oscars 9 times. There's no maximum on hosting, it just depends whether the person that the producers reached out wanted or not and recently the ABC people said that they're still open for Chris to return to host since he handled the situation perfectly
I've always loved Chris Rock, from his long history of standup, to his appearances in Adam Sandler movies, to being my favorite character in Madagascar. And, now that he was slapped by Will, I love him even more.
His head looks smaller! this coming from someone (me) who's getting bigger (less hair) as the years go by. He is looking great and humor could never end with such a great talented icon!
I think the popular expression is "Black don't crack" I dated a black girl 10 years ago that looks the exact same today. I told her that black people age like wine, white people age like cheese. She lol'ed.
Because those elitist rich people are not used to someone telling them the truth, they are used to "yes men" and crazy fans telling them they are so perfect. F$%k them, good on Chris !
Chris was bringing awareness with laughter which is a comedian’s gift. Speaking about lynching to what The brown people concerns are today🤸🏼♀️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
That's a brave dude man. The guy stands on stage in a theater full of rich white people ... and all he talked about was black people and made them laugh.
@josh18230 No one was in pain here, there's different between pain and being comfortable. Most were uncomfortable because they are racist, so is the industry and Chris was pointing that out. The fact that you missed all that and went to pain is sad.
Aahhhhh yeah they were faking those Oscar winning 😆 laughs. Buuuut Chris had to ease their white sensibilities by strategically placing little soft zingers here and there to let them release some of that tension because some of those white men were about to 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯. This was pure genius . Bravo Chris 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
this guy is a genius, instead of boycotting the oscars he came and shared his thoughts in a hilarious and reasonable fashion, i know a lot of directors the movie industry in general will take note.

@@mrit4099 This was before the elections, and the Oscars controversy provided enough material for this monologue. As for your answer, the Oscars have never been dependent on box office results. It's very well-known that flops are often nominated over actual hits. Even so, it ain't that simple to generate box office receipts when you're not given the opportunity to begin with. Take the most dominant genre in cinema today: superhero movies. It's not a level playing field when you're required to cast a white actor for iconic characters like Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Wolverine, etc... In terms of male leads alone; Blade, Hancock, & Black Panther are each a decade apart. Hell, Shang-Chi has yet to hit theaters.
@@jp3813 PERSONALLY I will not drop 50$ (for 2 with popcorn etc.) to see a movie in the theater unless I know they spent at least 100 million to make it (I wait for it to be available on-line)
@@danieloceans9652 i would not compare the two. chris and katt are from the same school yes, but katt is presents his humor unrefined and chris is like fine wine. they are two totally different styles.
@Maynard Frith enlighten me. How many? And also mention how many movies you have seen please. Otherwise I have to think you don’t know how to use internet.
A comedians job is to be controversial. Chris hit the nail right on the head with this monologue. It made people think, it got a rise out of them, made them uncomfortable, might've even pissed some of them off. In fact it did, it was even on the news and its everywhere on youtube that people were tweeting about feeling uncomfortable. Nowadays people get offended way to easily. Its ridiculous. Great job by Chris Rock.
'Nowadays people get offended way too easily' ummm this whole thing was only a controversy because people were offended that all the acting nominees were white...
@@aazimqawi3835 I never said you *had* to be controversial but most comedians *are* controversial and always will be. If not one person is offended at least once then its not comedy. Comedy is poking fun at serious shit that gets a reaction and rise out of people. Its always been like that. Always.
@@MrBen51309 Back then I saw little criticism on stuff like Chris Rock talked about in his stand up. Today in the world of the internet and dumb #metoo movement everyone is sensitive!
Chris Rock...no fear. Could have played it safe, but as always Chris Rock took this opportunity to call out Hollywood, and call it out he did....genius.
With the way the camera turned to Kevin Hart immediately after he was mentioned it shows that the direction was planned very accurately. ...which I'm not sure if it means that it was intentional, or if the cameraman messed up and wasn't ready when it was his turn.
@@KombatGod no actually the cameraman was tasked to pan to Kevin Hart at a certain point but due to his miniature size they couldn’t find him and the cameraman panicked
A brilliant act, and one of the most beloved comedians. Will Smith slapped him not because of this years Oscar’s , but because of this video where Chris mocks Jada boycotting the Oscar’s when she wasn’t even invited. Will is going to pay for that slap.
he really knocked this out of the park to me. a tense subject artfully managed. which makes me honor him even more for sparing will and jada a verbal beating.
Lootfisk That was one of the hardest lines I ever heard from Chris Rock. Like that shit had me shook cause everything he said is true. Through out the years only so many black noms actually won awards. This Chris Rock opening and Ricky Gervais this year have to be my all time faves.
I noticed when Chris was making black jokes everyone was knee slapping laughing but as soon as he talked about Hollywood being racist, a few applause, a few laughs. Feed them what they want and then add a little truth serum
@@michaelzeido3946 Race IS everything in this country, and if you cannot understand that then you're just as bigoted as the best of them since you're so content to live in a world with obvious disparities. We will take any and all platforms at our disposal to continue pursuing equal treatment in all facets of our lives. If we were true equals you would never hear stuff like this. At least we're not storming the nation's capital. Deal with it. Also, you're also obviously completely disregarding the part where he admits that progress is being made which says a whole lot about you.
People don't even realize.. this monologue was really the start of a major shift in Hollywood. He called it out in front of the most powerful people in Hollywood. "Is Hollywood racist? Well yea"
Sorry, but respect to Jada for dealing with a disease and still holding it together.. Nobody concerned about how Jada felt when she was disrespected.. .
I always laugh because blacks are like 14 percent of the population but everyone feels like the should be nominated in every category. Side note the Oscars are a fucking joke anyways!
9:38 The earpiece fell, Chris instantly tries to catches it with perfect reflex without letting the audience even notice and continues with the monologue, now thats what I call a pro.
Boy Chris was tearing it up on that stage that night Way to go Chris We wasn’t worried about being nominated back in the day we was busy trying to live another day 1962 is the year I was born My mom was busy trying to make a life And she protected me the rest of her life bless her heavenly soul🙏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😇 P.S. Thanks to the people that lost their lives during the protest marching back then, thanks for paving the way🔥🙏🏾👏🏾✊🏾😇 WAY TO GO CHRIS ROCK✊🏾💪🏾✊🏾💪🏾✊🏾💪🏾🎤 God Bless🙏🏾
But honestly, knowing the jokes he made, why didn't Chris saw it coming when he saw Will approaching the stage? Or, on second thought, maybe he did, and that's why he decided to keep his hands in the back and be professional. Not start a fight at the freakin Oscars.
