Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Chris Stapleton performs "Either Way" from his new album, "From A Room: Volume 1." The full interview airs on PBS on Thursday May 11, 2017.
Anyone who has been through a divorce or has experienced a dead-end relationship can really relate to this song. Chris expresses the emotional state of being past crying and past caring so beautifully in this song. My heart goes out to you, if you too know exactly how this feels. Chris's music pierces right through to the heart.
Tyler Perry's "Divorce in the Black," brought me here. Today was my first time hearing this, as I am not a country music fan...until now! All I can say is WOW!
Mr Stapleton helped me fall back in love with my wife, I've always loved my wife but his musical inspiration guided me back to being "IN" love with her, to truly appreciate her and our life together ... Thank You Chris Stapleton!
Wow, that is putting it WAAAAAYYYYYYY too nicely, it's more like, more talent in HALF OF A STRAND than what 99% of the entire music industry spin machine is popping out.
letfreedomring43 yeah that's what is so intriguing to me too. There is so little effort to hit those notes, and carry the bravado, hands down one of the most unique and talented vocalists to ever step onto a stage.
Man I’ve thought this for the longest time! To bad unfortunately Cornell isn’t with us anymore :( if you haven’t yet you should check out chris Stapleton’s cover of Chris Cornell’s “the keeper” at the Cornell tribute show
Not a stage big enough. Theyd blow every amp or speaker they plugged in. Edit: I dont mean this in a bad way. We just haven't found the technology to harness such great power. Im sure Chris and Layne are working it out with who ever over sees that department.
We pass in the hall On our way to separate rooms The only time we ever talk Is when the monthly bills are due We go to work, we go to church We fake the perfect life I'm past the point of give-a-damn And all my tears are cried We can just go on like this Say the word, we'll call it quits Baby, you can go or you can stay But I won't love you either way It's been so long since I've felt Anything inside these walls You can't hate and you can't hurt When you don't feel at all I used to cry and stay up nights And wonder what went wrong And it's been hard But hearts can only do that for so long We can just go on like this Say the word, we'll call it quits Baby, you can go or you can stay But I won't love you either way We can just go on like this Say the word, we'll call it quits Baby, you can go or you can stay But I won't love you either way Source: Musixmatch Songwriters: Christopher Stapleton / Timothy James / Kendall Marvel
Beverly Elaine Mejia it has needed someone so pure true and raw to the bone for a long time. That’s just God given blessings, you’re only born with that kind of talent, you can’t be taught that
There has never been an artist that makes me as emotional as Chris. Something, some how, just breaks that barrier between feeling emotional and showing emotion. I've cried more tears to his music than I could ever explain by words. Sort of a blessing and a curse. I love his music, his voice, his words... but be damned if I can't just hold back the tears.
Chris Klafford is a Scandinavian Chris Stapelton. Check him out mate. Saw Chris live several years ago, it was my first exposure to him and it was incredible
I will give you props sir for being honest about crying. That takes courage and you are a strong man for admitting that, you give me hope that I will find a good man! Thank you!
Was doing chores with my earbuds in and put this song on to listen to it for the first time. After the first two lines, I literally stopped in my tracks and tears began to flow. My God, this man writes songs that touch a person's soul!!
Chris is the most complete well rounded talent in any genre of music. Amazing songwriter, exceptional musician, and unbelievable vocalist. He sounds just as good live as his studio recordings. It has to seem unfair to many artist that the good Lord blessed him with such outstanding musical genius. I have been a huge fan since his Steeldriver then Jompson Brothers days and he continues to get better with every project. And I'll be a faithful fan for the rest of my days.
LeKa C-Lo----While Lee Ann Womack covered this song years ago since it was written by Chris Stapleton this is the original version. Lee Ann's was the cover version (even though this wasn't released yet). If that makes sense? Whenever songwriters release their original material (even after the release of another artist covering it) you are getting the original and relegating the earlier release to a cover (at least in my mind)
LeKa C-LO Lee Ann Womack did cut it a few years ago but Chris is the original writer of the song. On his new album he wrote or co-wrote all but 1 song, Last Thing I Needed, First Thing This Morning, originally cut by Willie Nelson.
THE KING JESUS CHRIST IS COMING Get out of here with that shit. This is a music video. People come here to enjoy some great music not see your ignorant political and religious views. Calling Obama a cloned Anti-Christ just shows you need to be in a special hospital where you can get help. Take your ramblings to the dark and ignorant corners of RU-vid and the internet where they belong.
I can honestly say this is the most heartbreaking song I’ve ever heard. Unrequited love and the most articulate description of ‘Its better to be alone than being with someone who makes you feel alone..’ Doesn’t make it hurt any less..
I am from Europe and not really a fan of country music at all with the exception of a country ballad here and there. But this guy... this guy has one of the best voices I have ever heard. The faultless power of his voice from low to high with a chilling effect during the chorus. Simply incredible.
I am no fan of country music in general. Chris is amazing. Awesome beyond words. You absolutely will not see this level of talent and sincerity replicated in this lifetime. A truly special soul, what more needs said?
I can't say I've ever been a country music fan but my fiancé introduced me to Mr. Stapleton's art and I'm absolutely blown away. This man's talent won't be matched any time soon in my opinion.
Doug McGuire I absolutely agree. In general I'm not a current country music fan. But this guy has got it all.. Powerful powerful and he's written some of the best songs out there in any genre
This song makes me cry every time I hear it. When you realize you've fallen out of love and know you can't get it back. It's the saddest thing a person has go through.
I read an article about this song and the author had written that when the song is over you need to remind yourself to start breathing again. That is the best description to all his songs really!
Such a relief to have someone who knows how to sing in country music again!! Wow! If you can’t feel his emotion and passion from his singing, check your pulse! ❤️😭❤️
Melissa Rogers Ty. And yes I can spell phenomenal, I just had to add "a touch more butter to my bread". Lol!!!!! His voice is as smooth as Tennessee Whiskey. Pardon the pun. Lol
Heard this song for the first time the other day. Minding my own business cooking dinner, getting stuff done, music playing in the background. By the time the second verse hit I was on the floor crying like a baby. This is how you write a song about falling out of love and it hurts, but its soooooooo good. I don’t know if it was the emotions in his voice or the melody that gets me the most but damn I felt this whole song.
Ryan Dunn I love Charlie Starr and he is awesome but he can't sing like Chris Stapleton. As a matter of fact today is the five year anniversary of me meeting Charlie Star and his mother.
@@logan3398 You obviously havent listened to all of Eds stuff then lol. Chris is amazing and one of my favorites. But Vocally they are both insanely good. Its a lot closer than you think.
I feel exactly the same way, LoL, not wanting to leave my husband....but, he makes you feel what that person was feeling, it's incredible! I mean, this song is so sad, but it's awesome at the same time. He's just awesomeness!!! 💯
He’s not only one of the greatest singers in the world but he’s also a stellar guitar player as well. Not one mistake. Sounded perfect. Hard to beat right there.
Wow! If this man is the future of "country music", then sign me up. What a talent. I feel like i'm in high school again, as I've played this performance on repeat all night.
This isn’t the future of country. Chris is in his own league. No one in country can even compete with this. They will keep putting out pop country to make money but, chris will be the one who turns the lights out on country when he leaves,
Jon Kane yes sir. if you dont, get a lump in your throat when he says "I used to cry and stay up nights and wonder what went wrong" you need to check your pulse...
i dont know who you ppl are that are giving thumbs down but haters ! I'm a heavy metal 80s kid and its been a very long time since I've heard someone that can really sing and not fake and this guy is for real and hes country as they come and i love that about him!!
You know an artist hits you when they're the only sole reason you haven't ended things for good. If it wasn't for this man, I'd've left this place long ago. I owe you my life mr stapleton 🙏
zAch TV just hang on! it can be hard to see sometimes but you are here to do something great and you are needed! accept more love and joy in your life, give as much as you can, and you will feel and see the change. god bless ❤
Everybody has a purpose in life. God wouldnt have brought you to life if it weren't for something important. Keep your head high and your faith in Him and the good lord will provide.
With just his voice and a guitar, Stapleton brought back the heart and soul of country, proving that sometimes, simplicity and authenticity are all you need to save a genre. “Either Way” wasn’t just a song-it was a statement, a revival, and a reminder of the power of real country music. He’s a legend
Chris is a powerhouse. He is by far one of the best musicians. The industry should count their blessings for an artist like this. Not only is he a vocal powerhouse, a gifted lyricist, and a brilliant songwriter, but he has a gift that not many musicians do nowadays-he reaches/touches people. I prefer to listen to live, acoustic music versus the band, bells, and whistles, all day long. When an artist sounds just as good acoustic/a cappella as he does recorded, if not better, you can't get much better than that.
Tough one to listen to, still can’t seem to let it completely go. Blessings to all reading this going thru something and I hope the light shines bright at the end of it, either way
His music is amazing. His live performances are second to none. Him and the guitar are a perfect marriage. He is country and blues in the most perfect union. Simply amazing.
It has been a long time since a song ,a voice, an artist has stopped me in my tracks....if everyone in the world could hear him sing today we would be in a better world tomorrow..all the love Chris....Thank you for sharing this with us all!

I just discovered this song and the timing is just right. Balled my eyes out!! When music brings pain to the surface, its a pretty magical thing. Mad respect, Chris!!!
He writes and sings with so much passion and it shows. Not to mention, his voice is so intoxicating. I can't get enough. Already ready for volume 2. Please keep blessing us with your true talent Chris.
WHAT TKJCIC? ? ? I KNOW JESUS AND THE F_ _ _ _ _ _ IS NOT INTERESTED IN THIS BRAIN WASH'N YOU ARE PUSH'N ON MY BUTT, LETS JUS LISTEN TO CHRIS AND GIVE IT UP MAN, I'LL HELP YOU IF YOU BE NEED"N IT, I'VE GOTTA GO . . . WHAT'S WRONG ? ? ?
the rapture isn't even biblical it's made up from Catholic church so is Easter and Christmas presents and the Easter bunny have no place on a day that's for the father
If you havent by now, check out his track called "Whiskey and You"...very similar composition to 'Either Way'...but each song is just raw emotional truth. Some of Chris' best music is just his singular vocal, alone & laden...and his unplugged acoustic guitar.
Living in Southwest VA, just a handful of hours away from Nashville, to me this isn't country. This pure gold is more Folk/Soul music. This right here is beyond great
The painful surrender of the words, and the cadence of the song... WOW! This is a moving yet sad combination of feelings, “you can’t hate or you can’t hurt when you don’t feel at all”. Thank you, Chris, for sharing this emotionally raw song. It can help make the realization of the decision, “I won’t love you either way.”
I'm from UK and we celebrate country music about as much as Thanksgiving Day...but this guy deserves his own National Anthem . God save Chris Staple ton!
Just a man and his guitar...and yet so profound and heart wrenching. Such pure and raw talent! This is the kind of country music I grew up with and miss so much!
The simplicity in his style is more soulful and heartfelt than anybody i've ever heard. It doesn't matter what kind of music you love , any one who hears this has to be moved by it. Truly one of my favorite Singer/Songwriters of my lifetime.
