The director of the Halftime Show that Prince was scheduled to perform at came back into the dressing room and told Prince it was raining, asking him what he could do for him. Prince said, "Can you make it rain harder?" Prince singing "Purple Rain" in the pouring rain, in his 6-inch heels, wailing on his symbol guitar, is one of the greatest moments in Super Bowl halftime history. It's totally worth a watch.
Just a man with a guitar. No autotuned. No back up band. No fancy clothes. No dancers. No back up vocals. That was not country.music. That was the blues, performed beautifully. You can't sing it like that unless you feel it.
Chris Stapleton is from the next county over from where I lived in Kentucky. He is not from Lexington, Kentucky. His wife had the record contract and she convinced him to go for it. He was literally a songwriter and not trying to be a singer. Whenever the county gets hit by anything he shows up. I no longer live there. Fire away is great, hell the entire album is great. He is just a great guy.
I’m from KY too and after the flooding last year Chris and Tyler Childers were both out helping everyone clean up. Such humble and great guys. Love to see it.
He was *born in* Lexington - perhaps his mom’s pregnancy with him was high-risk in some way, or simply that her preferred OB/GYN recommended she give birth in a (more advanced) Lexington hospital instead of back home (which wasn’t an unusual recommendation at the time)
He was in a blues group the steele drivers I beleive.... Justin Timberlake and his wife are credited to getting Chris to go for it as he was a successful songwriter....Stapleton has publicly thanked Justin Timberlake for his influence and exposure.
Fellas this is who i listened to when i was fighting Stage 4 Cancer, I feel like Chris’s voice helped through the pain and well we beat the monster. A year after my last treatments my wife lessee me with taking me to Chris’s Concert. He is twice as good in person believe me. Chris will always have a special place in my heart.
I'm a Cornell fan from when he started. Theres only one song I don't think he didn't cover as good as the original, To be treated rite- Terry Reid. Granted his wife released it after his death so it is what it is. But try Jacksons Billie Jean, he makes it a whole new song.
@@angieritchie9870 Me too Angie have you listen to his daughter Toni shes 16 and says i hope this makes you proud Daddy etc or Im in my Dads studio today an shes adorable beautiful with a great voice Toni Cornell!
@@MrYellowClyde For real. There's so much soulful country. A lot of people relate the genre to the mainstream pop country which is...in my opinion.. shit.
@@MrYellowClyde I don't even see Chris as Country. He's Blues except for Tennessee Whiskey which is more Country. But everything else he does is Blues js
Chris Stapleton is “Outlaw Country”! He’s in the same vein as Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Charlie Daniels, Waylon Jennings, David Allen Coe, etc. Outlaw Country is a breed apart from the rest. They refuse to follow whatever the current trend that’s coming out of Nashville.
I 100% AGREE!!! PRINCE is still my all time favorite super bowl halftime show. I just watched it with son a few months ago because he was too little to remember it. RIP Prince. I sure miss you!
I think this video which I have on my regular playlist was when he 1st started if you noticed the old guitar. Chris Stapleton just needs to stand there and sing that's it he doesn't need backup dancers he doesn't need anything he does not need the Flash or the hype to take away from his incredible talent. Personally I think after people saw him do the national anthem on the Super Bowl day that he will get a lot more recognition from other sources
There's a video of Chris singing a song called "Barely Alive" in a bar filmed on a cell phone and it still might be his greatest vocal performance in my mind.
I've said it before... Chris could sing the phone book and I'd know every line. LOL! The man is a gem. A once in a lifetime artist/performer. You cannot duplicate his talent.
That's the sign of a great musician, when they sound better in person than in studio. Another of those guys is Billy Joel. I've seen him in concert several times, and he's like that. It can be just him and his piano, or a great big talented band with him, and he's excellent.
I love his voice~! He's sings those big "phat" sounding notes and he projects them out like he's got a built in amplifier in his chest. He has so much heart and soul in his in his music. I used to teach private vocal and tell my students that "A lot of people can get up and sing a song but not everyone can perform one from the heart." If anybody can it's Chris Stapleton! Sometime between 2010-2012 I was living in Vegas and the CMA's were there and I was watching them from my place. All of the sudden this guy I had never even heard of started winning a lot of awards and then I heard him sing and I totally was blown away~! First of all, I couldn't figure out how I had never heard of him.... Second of all, I got online after the show and had to find him and see what he was all about.... and last but not least Third of all, I am totally in love with his voice. I mean he could sing the dang alphabet and sound like a rockstar!~!~!~! So, one day I'd never heard of him and the next he was taking home a whole arm full of awards.... much deserved too. He's amazing.... humble.... and he's got one of the best voices I've heard in a long time. He doesn't sound like everyone else which I love. When he starts singing you know it's him... no doubt. You guys are on the money with this guy. What an artist and how cool that you all get how really good he is~! 💙🧯💜🧯💙🧯 💜🧯💙🧯💜🧯💙
I have commented on your videos so many times, to do this song, and yall finally did it. FINALLY!!!! When it comes to music, there are certain songs that are just done to perfection. It's something about tone, inflection, emotion... There are so many things that go into a song that moves you. This song, hits all the right points. I can't think of another vocalist, that could pull this song off, to the degree that CS did in this performance. No one has that power, that range, the ability to go through runs.... And still sound the way he does. It's just astonishing. This is easily in my top 10 all time favorite songs. You are witnessing greatness. Don't ever forget it. Cheers, and thanks for finally doing this song.
Chris amazes me every time I hear him do something new. The man combines the very best of country and blues styles in his vocals. And you gentlemen do a great job of having fun with your reactions, which is great to see. Keep up the good work.
Great reaction, guys. Chris is amazing and even more amazing live. And he’s so humble. Genuine and thankful for his wife, family, band and fans. A true gentleman. And listen to what everyone has been commenting - you need to check out his live performance of Cold at the 2021 CMAs. Absolutely epic and you’ll be floored. Thanks.
I don't think you can compare Whitney & Chris's Anthem performance currently. Each unique & inspiring. I will say that Whitney's made a huge impact & has stood the test of time. Will Chris's? That's the sign of a great performance.
Whitney and Chris can't be compared gender and genre's separate them. Both killed the anthem. Chris will be like Elvis, Bob Dillon, Frank Sinatra and John Lennon. Whitney will be like Aretha Frankiln, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton and Billie Holiday 100 years from now they'll still have an impact on music. People will wanna be just like them. They'll be imitated but never duplicated. People will be talking about them and playing there music for generations to come. Absolute Legends. They will be remembered as 2 of the greatest singers, song writers and musicians(Chris) of all time. All well deserved!
Chris stapleton is amazing coming from way in Trinidad and Tobago and we usually hate country music but Chris hits different. You should check out "Cold" and "Death Row" by him.
Chris worked so hard to be an award winning artist. He moved to Nashville and wrote and sold many many songs, met his wife ( also a song writer) and kept grinding until he became who he is today, an award winning song writer and performer. Wasn't easy but here he is, one of the BEST !
Chris Stapleton… with just his guitar & his amazing vocals- Complex harmony with only one singer, He makes a vocal performance that’s so miraculous sound effortless.
Fire Away The Video is an absolute MUST.. then It’s a man’s world He was at a show for a band he liked and they invited him up out of the audience..... watch the bands face 🤯👀 they were mind blown at the soul that came out of Chris.. never played with him before. I’m going to go rewatch... the chills keep coming during this live performance💯
This is quite possibly my new favorite channel on YT. The diverse content, genuine reactions and personalities, and overall openness. Keep it up, fellas. Y'all are doing it right. 👏 You give this God-fearing, homesteading, NY to TN mom a bit more joy and hope for this world. 💚
I love Chris Stapleton. what a blues man! It’s great to see you continue listening to him. If you want another great blues song to listen to try “Lie To Me” by Jonny Lang. It’s a banger.
@@sarawright6502 thanks for the word of encouragement i must say i have enormous respect for you considering the manner at which i am writing to you i must say your comment give me goosebumps and i have decided to honour you i would love to have a private conversation with you if that is okay with you
Death row, barely alive, fire away, either way, starting over, cold, midnight train to Memphis, nobody to blame, blow, if it hadn't been for love, last one to know, broken Halo's, blue side of the mountain... You can literally pick ANY of his songs and not be disappointed! Check out his cover of James Brown's a man's world, or his cover of the Allman Brothers whipping post!
He needs nothing but his voice and a guitar. I could listen to that man sing a nursery rhyme and be happy all the days of my life. He is a beautiful man.
Chris Stapleton is the talent of our generation. No one else has those pipes or song writing skills. I've seen him live front row. There is no one better.
YESSS Princes half time show is the goat!!! 🙌🏻💜🎶🥰 Rihanna n Whitney Houston both sang the National Anthem like angles, they were the best!!! 🎶🥰 Please react to Are you gonna be my girl by Jet 🙏🏻☺️
If ya’ll watch Prince’s half time show please watch the whole thing, not just purple rain.. cuz it srsly doesn’t start pouring rain until then. Amazing to watch.
I'm hooked. His voice is so amazing! He touches you deep down in your soul. God gifted him with this talent to bless others. His voice is such a blessing to listen to❤
Death Row, the studio version, is unique. All of Chris’ songs are good; don’t think any song you choose would disappoint. A few more are: Cold Watch You Burn, Fool Me Again, Blue Side of the Mountain.
If you love Chris listen to him with his old band The Steeldrivers. Check out Can You Run. Its about a Southern man who runs off to fight for the North in the Civil War
Both Whitney’ and Chris’s anthem are in a league of their own but performed completely different. It just comes down to your personal taste which is better to you. Both are out of this world.
I don't think I've seen one of your reactions when you didn't pause at least once. It was refreshing to see and showed how awed you were with awesome Chris Stapleton. Loved it. :)
This was like watching 5 potentially unruly kids being silenced by one amazing teacher. With respect guys, I love viewing, and have almost forgiven you for Bohemian Rapsody. ❤️ But NOT Elvis..... Go watch the 68 special.
Would love to hear your reaction to some classic rock by some of the big groups of the 60's through the 80's. Chicago comes to mind. One of their first hits in the late 60's was 25 or 6 to 4. One of their best later hits in the 80's was Your The Inspiration. Their early music used brass and trumpets, one of the first rock bands to do so. Love your willingness to widen your horizons by going in every direction musically. Keep up your entertaining ways of reacting!
Chris is a once in Generation talent. T He works on songs all the time but GOD blessed this man with a voice with gigantic range, blusey rasp, n some the most soul in his voice. The man can do anything. Christ Stapleton is what you when one in a billion talent works hard. He is like watching Jordan play ball, Phelps swim, Bolt run, Tyson box in his prime. Just a TITAN of a musical talent n blends genres like an absolute boss. That man is special glad we can all enjoy him n by the time he is done he will be an ICON with the likes of the Beatles, Michael Jackson, and BB King
Have you guys reacted to Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake CMA performance? If not, you will LOVE IT!! They blew the other artists off the stage. Nashville was on fire that night.
Stapleton just had one of. IF not the best national anthem ever At the superbowl. RARELY do you have an American singing our anthem let alone one that will make the hair on your neck stand up. And tears fill your eyes. Amazing job. Oh thanks for content fellas. Much appreciated. Keep grindin. Also. You should look up songs. He wrote. That are number ones. For so many.
