I like to hear the younger singers covering the old standards and long-gone hits. This is a great way for the younger listeners to be introduced to those older songs... and maybe cause them to look up the original artists and their other songs.
I think Chris did it justice , and a fine job .But Vern Gosdin had that distinct voice that no one else had , and there will never be another Vern Gosdin . Everyone has their own taste in music , and can convey it ... that's what makes our nation so great , but the other thing is country music . Great song tho .
There is no doubt Vern wrote songs and no one could do them quit like him. I have his CD in my car and play it every time I go somewhere. But! I have heard Chris sing this as well as Is it raining at your house. If any one in the business can do a Gosdin Song, and do it the way it has to be done. It has be Chris Young.
I've always been a fan of Chris but just recently heard this cover of The voice Vern Gosdin, and Holy Crap, Vern is raising up from his resting place and screaming sing it son cause there ain't nobody going to do a better job, thank you Chris for the best tribute I've ever heard!!!

I enjoy listening to Chris . He has a great presence and a good voice. And I appreciate the fact he has covered one of Vern's greatest songs . Which Vern always be one of my favorite country artists singers of all times .

Amen! I have been a country music Fan all my life. I'm talking Country. Hank Thompson, Faron Young, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Merle Haggard, etc. Artist that could get in front of an audience and did not need anything but Guitar, and a mic, in a small venue, no mic. Their voice was the same as the recording, No enhancements. They sang Country, Bluegrass, Gospel, and their voices were great. Not today. I have listen to many acoustic performers and found them to be flat, Sharp, hitting notes in the Seventh instead of where they should be. I have listen to Chris Young perform many acoustic performances. His voice is as smooth as a Baby's bottom. He can sing pop, opera, even RAP. Vern Gosdin was great CY gives him a fitting honor singing 1 of his song true to form not changing it but honoring the legend CY has a awesome God given talent for telling the truth of the song. Rarely found in today's country.

I agree. Artists are often forced to evolve with the times to stay relevant. While some of us would love for him to do classic stuff like this, the demand for it just isn't there in comparison.

Hi My sister Anne died from burns before I was born. She was 4 years of age. My mother was pregnant with my brother, Aidan at the time; a very traumatic time for mother AND child. This was 1947. I was born in 1950. My family consisted of 6 girls and five boys. My mother died in 1971 from cancer of the spine, aged 56 and my father died in 1975, from Congestive heart-failure. My brother Patrick was the victim of a hit & run, in 1981, causing massive head injuries, resulting in his committal to a psychiatric hospital for the rest of his life. There was no long-stay unit anywhere for brain damaged patients. My brother Aidan and I visited him in the hospital nightly for 25 years. My sister Theresa was found dead in 2005 from an asthmatic attack. Patrick died in 2006 from the effects of MRSA infection. Maria died in 2007 from cancer of the lungs and Aidan died in 2008 from suicide. He couldn't fill the emotional gap left after Patrick's death. I on the other hand started drinking heavy and the result was Diabetes and Diabetic neuropathy in both feet. My best friend, Joe, died in 2009 from a heart attack. My sister-in-law died in 2011 from a brain tumour. My sister Clare died in 2013 from breast cancer. My niece, Annette, died in 2016 from breast cancer and my sister Phyllis died of cancer 10pm 27/8/2017. She was aged 64 and died of cancer of the liver, which was very painful. She put off going into the hospice for the fear of knowing there was no coming out once she went in. But it was a mistake, for she suffered not having 24/7 care. She was miserable and finally decided to go to the hospice. There she received the best of care 24/7 and was pain-free.
