Hwang was indeed in Soul Blade but in the Korean version of the original arcade release, he replaced Mitsurugi Hwang is basically Korea's Captain America. He's a patriotic swordsman out looking for Soul Edge, but his country only knows it as the Sword of Salvation or the Sword of Heroes. They want to use it to win a war they're currently fighting but have no idea what Soul Edge actually is. They only know of the stories. He was also sent out to bring back Seung Mina, who rushed out to go prove herself a strong warrior. He hadn't appeared in any Soulcalibur game in significant capacity after SC1. The Assassin in SCII reused his moveset, but there was idle speculation that Hwang was disguised as one of their number, which SCVI semi-confirmed in Mina's Soul Chronicle. He later appeared in SCIII as a bonus character with an official art render. Read, _bonus_ character. He was in the same sub-section as characters from the game's separate story mode using a CAS style and did not have his own dedicated slot. He pretty much just vanished after III. As for all of the magic stuff going on, that's entirely new. He's never done anything like that before. He's even wielding a brand new weapon called Dark Thunder in place of Blue Thunder.

He had his own slot in the arcade edition of SC3.

That outfit is a reference to the character "Assassin" in SC2, which was basically a disguised Hwang. Everybody knew it was him because of the movelist, but Namco wanted to troll by keeping silent about it.

@John Carlton Hwang wasn't in the game, but the developers still cared enough to give players a version to play is SC2 and SC3. There is nothing to complain about.

@John Carlton SC franchise always had a strong RPG aspect, with solid ties to the story, and story wise, those characters just weren't in those games. They shouldn't even be playable at all. Hwang was replaced by Yun-seong and Li Long was replaced by Maxi. That wasn't laziness, as resources were spent to make new characters with new moves and new designs, just for the sake of the story. Namco had no obligation to put any character in the game, and they removed Hwang and Li Long, period. Still they bothered giving the players a chance to use the removed characters, and players still complained about a free bônus that shouldn't even be there! Talk about ungratefulness!

@John Carlton "there was no reason to remove them from the story" Sorry, but you just don't get a say in that, since you're not the developer of the game. They are free to make the game the way they want and remove whoever they want. Complain about that is the same nonsense as to complain about a character's death in a book, trying to rewrite it your own way. That's just being a spoiled kid.

@John Carlton nah, you just can't deal with things that don't go you way. SC3, 4 and 5 were the worst games in the franchise mostly because of the slow, boring and repetitive gameplay. In fact, the only thing that fans should be heard about is gameplay. Fans must have no say in the story because most of them are teens that want dumb edgelords. Story/character wise, the only right way is the authors/developers way, always.

Dude, the Astaroth disrespect almost ruined the whole video... You better put some respect on my main's name homie lol. I feel you though man, I'm definitely excited about the return of Hwang after many years. He was my SC 1 main... Can't wait until Wednesday! *Sub and like earned*
