Homemaking motivation for when you don't feel like it. Sometimes I just need a renewed, refreshed vision for why I'm a homemaker and what it means to build our home economy. I'm sharing the old defentions of homemaker, housewife, housewifery, and home economics. Getting back to the basics of being a homemaker, unto the glory of the Lord.

I am an older wife and mother. I appreciate how you encourage other women to love being a keeper of their home. It really encourages me to want to continue being a homemaker even though my children are grown and have moved away. There are always things to do.❤

I quit my job when I had my second child 19 years ago and never looked back. I got a lot of flack for it! I’d never change a thing and my grown children say they are so glad I stayed home. Enjoy these days as they fly by… I always had other children at my home and fed them lunch ect bc their parents were always busy. Now that my children are out of school, people have started asking me when I’m going back to work!! lol!! I’m so much happier, have less stress, time to cook and set a nice table, time to take care of others (aging parents), volunteer, walk the dog and not rush through life (or always be on the hamster wheel) Needless to say, I don’t feel like I have to explain what I do anymore bc I know it’s such an important job to take care of my home, husband, children, garden, ect. My happy home is one of my greatest accomplishments. Not every day is easy but I thank God that my husband supported my decision to be at home. Do what’s right for you, ladies (we are all different)-you don’t have to explain your decisions to anyone!! P.S. - your kids/husband never stop needing you even when the nest is empty…😊

I had to comment on playing with children when they are small. I played with mine and the cleaning was not done and some of my relatives commented on that in a negative way. But now looking back at that time I’m glad I played with them and didn’t put cleaning first. They grow so fast!

I used to feel completely overwhelmed, run down and super tired of doing all.the.things. Turns out I had anemia. After a few weeks of taking iron pills, I was a lot more able to keep up with the workload of being a stay home parent. Sometimes it takes just a bit of looking after yourself (medically/physically). I still get days that I don't really feel like cleaning, but at least I know that I'm able to, even if I don't *want* to lol. The one thing I've found that helps with getting past the "don't want to" is using cleaning products that I actually enjoy using, either because they work really well or because they smell nice (or both!).

I remember when I was younger (I’m 59) I lived in a neighborhood that was full of women homemakers. And usually once or twice a week, around 11AM the women gathered at someone’s house and had coffee and chatted. Sharing stories of there days and what they were doing at home to make it flow better. There was a lot of laughs, tears and encouragement… and occasionally a tad bit of gossip😂😂. But it was just the norm to be at home and they loved it!!

I'm around the same age as yourself and my childhood was the same in the 1970's. Yes 11am coffee at someone's home with maybe a tupperware or jewellry party occassionally. All the Dads worked, could only get a mortgage on the Dad's wage, so housing fairly cheap, all the gardens kept nicely. Kids all played together out in the street. Real sense of community.

Great video Kelli (as always!). ❤️ Mother culture is a huge part of my day. We have nine children, including one-year-old twins, and when babies go down for naps, I get out my Mother Culture notebook (bought it on Etsy) and my reading journal, Bible, etc. and go out to the garden to pray, read and ask the Holy Spirit to teach me. I have learned more in my almost 20 years at home, self-educating myself than 20 years in “school”. Let the Holy Spirit lead education, whether that’s for mothers or children. He leads so much better! Many, many blessings!!!!

you are absolutely right! I have homeschooled for 10 years now (only have one more year until my 2nd daughter graduates yay!) and I have learned much more doing that than all my years in public school & college combined. Every time we learn new topic I am amazed at my lack of knowledge on the subject (& I consider myself a fairly well educated individual). I was misinformed on much of it, never taught a lot of it, or must be I didn't pay attention on the rest LOL. I truly feel like I have been in 20 years of self education since I decided to stay home. I definitely feel like I am a more well-rounded, intelligent, person than I was after college. 2 things I regret - going to college & not having more children. I actually have trouble conversating with women who work. It seems like they may know a lot about their job duties, but not much else. You end up listening to a bunch of gripes about bosses, gossip about coworkers, etc...very little in the way of pithy conversation. And I don't have any of the 'troubles' that they have, so it is hard to relate or keep my attention on the conversation. They seem to lack interest or curiosity in studying anything outside of their area of job duties and in their free time they are entangled in their kids' activities (which bring about the same topics listed above, except about coaches, teachers, other parents) or are more clued in to facebook or instagram than real life. My stay at home mom friends & I have much deeper, intellectual, & spiritual conversations & they tend to have more curiosity about the world around them.

@@pattyhansen7563 This is really beautiful. ❤️ I do pray that homeschooling, homesteading mothers could have tight-knit communities like the Amish and Mennonites do. (We live near some and know them well, but are not ourselves Amish or Mennonite.) I have found that many families like us are Reformed/Calvanists and we actually left a church like that. Now, we just attend a small Baptist church and there aren’t many homeschoolers or homesteaders. It can be hard to connect with like-minded people, but we are learning flexibility in our friendships. Personal and/or family convictions can be divisive, but the LOVE God gives us for the body of Christ can supersede that. ❤️ I loved reading your comment here! Many blessings. Kelli

11:37 timestamp....this spoke to me big time. This has been a topic of conversation, round & round in my life for the past couple of days. How timely! My younger daughter just reminded me of a simple thing we used to do together (take a walk every morning, after I put her sister on the school bus). I was trying to lose weight & get in shape, but she just thought I was trying to entertain her. She retold a memory from that time & I was blown away that she could even remember ....she was only 2!!! I had to work for the first little bit of my older daughter's life. I missed her first smile, her first steps, & other important things. The babysitter would make a big deal out how she was the one getting to see the things & how I was missing out. I was so devastated during that time period. I actually ended up having a clinical nervous breakdown & was forced to quit working. I just could not keep up the pace. It is a very sad time in my life, when I look back on it. I actually have very few memories of my older daughter being very little, as I was not really present and suffering from a serious mental illness. Once I quit working & started focusing on my kids, home, husband, & developing hobbies/interests the mental anguish I was suffering started to subside. I had developed Clinical OCD (not the kind that people glibly joke about having. the real deal) that ruled my entire life. I would consider myself completely cured of that now - no medicine or therapy... Upon reflection, I have come to realize that I didn't have anything truly positive to focus all my attention on, so my mind made up false things to obsess about & worry about. Very irrational stuff. Once I got to be home, I had some motive for those 'obsessions' or compulsions....and I had time to delve into truly rewarding ways to spend my time! I am a much happier wife & mother, with friends & time to do lovely things.

Interesting isn't it, growing up through the whole 70s my mother and grandmothers were housewives, it was the only term used, as one who stays home as opposed to a working woman, never gave it any thought and had no biblical association it seemed. It was just what countryside women did who had many children, looking after the home and family. House wife has become something so different today, it was not a derogatory term then as it seems to be now for some people who utter it. Sad really. I'm glad my mum was home with us, she taught me how to cook and sew and knit and craft many things
