Introduction to World Religion and Belief Systems
Lesson 5: CHRISTIANITY
* Christianity- takes its name from the Greek word christos.
* “Christ” is not a surname. It is meant to describe Jesus. It came from the Greek word Christos which means “The Anointed One.” Christos is the Greek word equivalent of the Hebrew word Messiah.
*God the Father -To Christians, God the Father's relationship with humanity is that of Creator and created beings, and in that respect, he is the father of all.
* God the Son- is the second person of the Trinity in Christian theology. The doctrine of the Trinity identifies Jesus as God the Son.
* God the Holy spirit- The Holy Spirit is referred to as "the Lord, the Giver of Life" in the Nicene Creed, which summarizes several key beliefs held by many Christian denominations.
* Sacred Text- New Testament
New Testament is divided into 4 parts: Gospels, Acts of the Apostles, Epistles and Revelation
* Sects- Roman Catholic, Protestantism, and Eastern Orthodox
