Lesson 6: ISLAM
ISLAM was founded in the 7th century
ISLAM means "surrender" or "submission to God"
*Allah - Arabic term which means "The one who is God"
* Ishmael - means God listens
- ancestor of Prophet Muhammad
*Muhammad Ibn Abdallah or Prophet Muhammad
- born in Mecca around 570
- raised by his uncle, Abu Talib
- He accompanied his uncle on his journey as a camel merchant
- He was a member of Quraysh Tribe
* Cave in Mount Hira- location were the prophet Muhammad received his revelations from Allah through angel Gabriel.
* Sacred Text - Q'uran (Koran) which means recitation in Arabic
