I find it so hard to listen to her sing live. The worst part is she is undeniably talented. Like her vocals are so powerful and agile but it’s so erratic in my opinion

I’m not the only one who dislike it, my uncle finds her oversinging annoying too. We can agree to disagree or are you gonna force me to like my taste?
I want to clarify that by oversinging I don't mean that all these clips are bad. Some of these are my favorite vocal moments of her while others didn't work that well in my opinion.

I know this is a very unpopular opinion, but I never understood her voice, she sounds like a crazy person to me. Just because she can hit high notes doesn’t mean she should do it IN EVERY SINGLE WORD. I’m not even convinced she’s a good singer, it sounds like she screams at the mic. There’s a reason no good singer (whitney, mariah, aretha) ever sounded like that, even though they could, it’s because it doesn’t sound good
One of the MOST EXHAUSTING singers I’ve ever listened to. To be gifted with such a stunning voice and to use it in such a ridiculous way is so annoying. I have yet to see her actually connect with a song she’s singing cuz all she wants to do is perform riffs and runs to the point where she goes off the rails and many times goes off pitch. She’s never had great songs anyway but maybe one of these days I’ll be able to actually hear her SING instead of her performing obnoxious vocal exercises to no end!
Strangely her oversinging is addictive to me. Some may not sound pleasant on first listen but it feels lacking if I listen to that somg again without her adds to it
I can see why people arent fond of the style. Its a LOT. But i think thats what makes her absolutely incredible!!!! Her control is amazing and effortless. She sings with her heart too, which makes her captivating to watch. Some people are clearly born to do certain things, she was undoubtedly born to sing
There’s just no melody or feeling when you do that much riffing. It’s just showing off. Listen to old Motown artists, they just stuck to straight melody and their songs had so much soul and feeling. This just sounds like a parody
If I have the voice like her I would do more than that. Show off every my agility but I guess everybody knows she’s risk taker and wants to be different, she could sing beautifully when she wanted. She don’t like to play safe which we say bored to see.
I agree, to a point. I admit I don't listen to diva vocalists when I'm in the mood to listen to music per se, it's more like watching a talent contest or a sport. It's more to be impressed than enjoy musically (A lot of the diva songs aren't even that great). Virtuosic singing stands out from the music, instead of blending in well enough to be a seamless part of it. I used to absolutely hate trendy excessive melisma or "vocal gymnastics" as they were called in the 90s/early 00s, but I started to get used to it and appreciate it for what it is. It's just sort of thrilling to see people good at what they do, and I'm not the type to watch a sport, so I watch videos of people nailing complex runs instead. I feel as if it stimulates a completely different part of my brain than good music. When I listen to good music, I focus on the music. When I listen to good singers, I want to sing. I want to imitate it. It's almost more sport than art to me. I see dance in the same way.
BRILLIANT!! obviously when there’s a compilation made of the climaxes of lots of her performances, it doesn’t translate in the same way as seeing the performance as a whole with the build up and softer moments leading up to it and will sound irritating for that reason to some, I still loved it regardless.
She do too much. I _cain't_ complain though because I just be over here rollin'. When she do all that screamin' and carryin' on, it's sorta hard to make out what she's screaming (singing) about. Like I _cain't_ understand the lyrics due to all of the excessive riffs, runs and grunts. Sometimes she sound like somebody revvin' up they lawnmower. Anyway, some of these clips aren't that bad.
Her riffs and melisma are actually really difficult to do. I have yet to see other singers try how she plays up songs. That’s why she’s always tapped to do tributes coz she’s able to reinterpret a song. She’s able to put her stamp on songs with her renditions. Her voice now is even richer and stronger and all her riffs are more effortless.
I agree.. vocally Christina got better in time...the liberation album, and her spanish album performances recently...wow......you would think her voice would be gone..she actually displaying healthy vocals..and I believe it is because she doesn't tour as much...only in limited windows...to maintain her voice register.
I always felt one of the reason why Christina would over sing, especially in the beginning of her career, is she because felt like she had to prove her spot in the industry. She's petite (a short man's complex), a rarity considering she's this blonde hair blue-eyed white girl who could blow. Also maybe trying to use every opportunity to showcase her range with limiting pop produced songs. She really grew and had strengthened her sound by BTB. I remember by the time she was singing with Tony Bennet, a confidence & maturity really took over so now her embellishing feels like a secured signature style for her.
Christina Aguilera has one of the most amazing voices in the industry let's get that straight, but i have to agree with this video because sometimes she oversing and i don't like it, you guys should see her performance with Tony Bennett in the "American classic 2006" her voice sounds soooooooo beautiful and completely clean i really wish she can sing like that all the time
She's not extra, she's just flexing his vocals atleast she's not mediocre like many artist today well if they don't prefer her style just don't listen to her.
Even Patti, Chaka, Jennifer Hudson, learned when to reel it in. She still has that lesson to learn & she seems to refuse to. She doesn't have to prove anything. We know what she can do. Now it's time to wow us with actual TECHNICH & CONTORL of her emotions & her instrument. I'll wait..... .

Anyone that says that this woman’s over singing is a dumbass she has a huge vocal range and she knows how to use it. She’s not Brittany Spears or Jessica Simpson and who doesn’t know how to sing. She knows how to use her voice. She also knows how to go down really carefully and seeing next to somebody who is more powerful or not is more powerful, but it’s singing more powerful than her and she can just blend in with him very easily one of that song the sad one I can’t remember what it’s called. It’s not her song, but she’s in it and she does such an amazing job of not over her voice, but just blending it perfectly, she’s extremely talented and that’s a lot of people didn’t like it. She had the looks and she had the voice and it wasn’t the typical white crew voice. She had sort of the you know gospel tone that a lot of African-American women can really belt out and she had that. I don’t know how she sounds today but back in her day. She was phenomenal.
At her best, she has a powerful, piercing, moving voice that no one can touch. At her worst, she sounds like a lion getting shot, and the way she drags out her runs are annoying, not gonna lie.
Go off girl! I don't understand why people are encouraging her to dim herself just because they don't like what she has to offer. I could feel so much joy and passion in Christina whenever she is given the chance to sing. I get why people interpret her showmanship as showing off, but I've always seen it as just her putting all she has to offer in the moment! It's inspiring to see how much she loves doing what she does.
OverSinging isnt always bad it actually sounds beautiful sometimes, Sometimes it sounds bad and sometimes it sounds beautiful its the same with Screaming screaming doesnt always sound terrible screaming sometimes actually sounds nice And Just because a person Over sings or screams doesnt mean they can’t sing Christina aguliera DOES scream AND DOES over sing But Sometimes she actually sounds Nice when she over sings and Screams Screaming/Oversinging has its ups and downs whereas sometimes it’s beautiful and sometimes its not. Just because A Singer Oversings Or Scream DOESN’T MEAN THEY CAN’T SING. Whereas to Christina aguliera Oversings & screams, Doesnt mean she’s a bad singer.
She has an incredible vocal instrument, but I wish she would temper her singing. I find her very tedious to listen to a lot of the time because of the lack of restraint.

No they really weren't. She over sang so much she lost the feeling of the songs, the meaning. Singing is More than singing as loud as you can & holding the loudest, longest, note. It's why she's burned herself out & PINK is STILL packing stadiums & selling albums.
I think she is one of the best out there. I have admired her since day one. BUT 2:55 was awful. BUT there are so many beautifully performed ornamentations in this video montage!
She has such a beautiful and powerful voice. I think what some might call over singing is interpreted by others as teeny-tiny Christina working so hard to get that BIG voice out.
