Some of the things she did doesn't line up with being abused as a child. We would never say no to our abuser. We'd be too scared. And we would be glad to get away from them not be homesick like she was at school. She talks about her mother way to casually to have ever been scared of her like she says. And she remembers allot. Usually childhood trauma causes a terrible memory bc you block out so much... IDK if this was true or not bc Joan could've chose a child of her 4 to abuse and not the others. What does the brother say? Did he back up her wire hangers story?

Surrounded herself with homosexuals and said with such disdain by Christina.

I thought that same thing. It's like girl those homosexual men who loved your mother have been your bread-and-butter so I would watch it

Yep she meant it as a dig, but it actually shows Joan Crawford was a pretty cool soul.

Now nobody can tell me she isn't capable of lying. She has no problem spinning a tail, very very good at giving deep details. That normal people just would not use to describe things

Are these random excerpts or is the book really this disorganized?
@perfectpitchmeow7470

You know, I was thinking 💭 about the same thing. I’m thinking that the story has random excerpts. In fact, I have actually read the book before. Lol 😝! But in my opinion, I was thinking 💭 that the only thing that’s disorganized 😕 was that movie, Mommie Dearest which turned out to be very campy.

@@perfectpitchmeow7470 then became a cult classic😎😎 I never read the book but listening to this I believe Christina maybe describing flashbacks at certain points or it’s like random thoughts come up.

42:35 - At the end of a litany of charges against her mother she says "the homosexuals she surrounded herself with"- Erm, excuse me? I've always supported Christina's perspective, I'm not a Joan Crawford apologist but this is disappointing. And wrong.

Joan died and the book was released in a year. I wonder if she did this on purpose

This was one troubled child. Hateful, jealous, vindictive and conniving. This over dramatized and inflated account of such a horrible life you had was by your own hand. Shameful..

History has been very good to JC regarding this saga. It's interesting how it was considered so shocking at the time ... today Christina comes off as a spoiled, angry, and betrayed daughter of a superstar who stood her ground by not handing everything to their kids.

Did she compared homosexuals "gay people,to a negative thing? WTF

It's sad this book is considered a cult classic.It's one of the most sought after out of print books on Amazon.I'm no Joan Crawford apologist but no one deserved being pissed on like this.

I agree. This is awful to be honest I don't buy it. I watched Joan Crawford interview , she is poised and elegant. I learned she only went to 5th grade and basically taught herself. It was interesting . She did not speak like this at all

I’ll be honest, when I watched the movie first, I believed her! Now hearing the book im thinking how would you remember all these details.. When I was young I remember very good times with my mom, but it’s not down the the details and what my mom said… She remembers everything sense she was 3 down to every word.. It’s not believable sorry

I don't believe Joan would allow her child to wear 2 dresses, only repeatedly. I don't. We have spent time listening to Christina, I decided to watch some interviews with Joan. It was nessicary. I recommend everyone watch at least one

For someone who was so terrified of her mother and was ruled with an iron fist she sure seemed to retaliate and bite back for a terrified little girl. Sounds more like a spoiled brat than an abused child

Only Christina Crawford would put the bit about the gifts in and expect sympathy. She doesn’t say, “as a child I just didn’t understand. And sure my mom probably did it for publicity. But it was a good thing looking back.” No, that would be reasonable. She is still upset over those presents.

Lets see, someone had a talented, famous mother, lived in a palace with food and clothes and ponies at birthday parties and it was so awful, had to write a book for money because she bungled all the privilege and opportunities her horrible mother laid at her feet. I'm just not feeling it. I will say I was a lippy, spoiled child too, but no one bought my book.

She spent her WHOLE life after this not with a regular job but doing any and every talk show she could to slam Joan Crawford. She's the ONLY one who said anything like this about Joan the housekeeper, assistant and journalist, ex husband's, friends even Bette Davis all have come out and said this is a pack of lies AND how difficult and jealous Christina was of Joan. It's sad what she did here.

I’m certain Joan Crawford was no saint, and she certainly did some questionable things, but Christina strikes me as a whiny, over dramatic person who wrote this book out of revenge over the will. I’m no Joan Crawford fan, and I’m not defending her. But Christina is very unlikeable.
@WelshSwan1986
@WelshSwan1986 3 года назад
It's telling to me that Christina wanted to be an actress and Joan apparently wanted her to drop the surname Crawford, Christina says it was because Joan didn't want her getting gigs off the back of her surname but it sounds to me like Joan wanted her to make it on her own so no one could say 'Oh you only got this part because of your mother!'. If Joan was that bad, surely when she became of age she would have ran away and never looked back? No, I think Christina is a bitter woman who was PISSED that Joan didn't name her in the will and that she never got the career she believed she deserved.

Christina seems spoiled and entitled. Does she have any idea how most of us had to somehow grow up with no pool, no vacations, no parties, no pretty clothes, and a raging parent on top of it all? Get a clue, Christina. To me, she seems like a wild child. I had to pay room and board at 16 and go to school full time. Get a clue, Christina.

Could be me but she sounds cheesy.. What 4 year old calls their birthday a luncheon? Also who calls their mother, Mommie , after the age of 5? She said mommie dearest was a term of endearment but she is calling her mommie to the point it makes me wanna slap this over grown kid! Some of these stories sounds like spoiled brat baby fits. Christina does seem very spoiled especially acting like she was near death because she would t eat that steak.. honey if that’s child abuse my parents should be in prison. What we had on our plates we ate it and u got nothing else until you did .. I know that’s horrible!! We were spanked with anything my parents could grab in my days . We all did as kids when we misbehaved. Now days be considered abuse but not my days as a child growing up.. Christina seems jealous and wants to be the star. I have a problem with somebody that writes a book ,something so horrible, about their mother and that mother being a famous movie star. Written after Joan died where she can’t even defend herself. Every story has 3 sides. Your version, my version and the truth. I always thought it so disrespectful to talk badly about the dead. So why wait until then? I think it was a pay back to get back at her mother . Something that took Joan most of her life to make , a career in which this brat was going to destroy in one book .so many crazy accusations , many sounding like tantrums from a spoiled brat.. Anyways, I’d find it more believable if she had made these claims while Joan was alive.
