Chris is effortlessly articulate , intelligent and funny. The interviewer unfortunately comes across as ignorant and derisive (in a way so typical of some white males) towards complicated issues surrounding sexuality. I get that he’s trying to explore these issues in an accessible way for the “older people” he keeps alluding too but there’s a way to do this without coming across as this “I’m just an older man who is ignorant of these issues please take on the labour of educating me”. You should be doing better Newsnight!
@FrankieHchannel
@FrankieHchannel 5 лет назад
Amber G You post me with “in a way so typical of some white males”, imagine that but replace white with black. Come on
@sirbarnabyst.johntoffingto9017
Amber G Questions need to be asked if answers are sought. Indeed, as an 81 yr old Knight of the realm, one often times these days finds oneself equally bemused, confused and irritated by all this gender/ sexual politics talk. One is only glad one is not a 10/11/12/13 yr old schoolboy having ones cerebral sponge constantly subconsciously kicked around by all the mainstream media fed objective views of all these newly spun webs of invention. But i digress, Christine And The Queens .. Great music! Thanks awfully Steve Wright In The Afternoon.
@ccdj124
@ccdj124 5 лет назад
frankie hollins White males don’t have a history of being systematically oppressed (In fact, they have the history of being an oppressor and in the present day hold the most power) whereas black males do. So they cannot be used interchangeably because of historical and present day contexts. I am highlighting the fact he is white because I feel that has contributed to his derisive attitude. I guess by definition this is racist and I’m fine with that.
@ccdj124
@ccdj124 5 лет назад
Sir Barnaby St.John Toffington “newly spun webs of invention” You mean people breaking out of gender roles that have been assigned to them by society so they can live the life they actually want to live? I think we’re teaching adolescent boys not to rape women in 2018 and I can’t think of a better age to be living in.
@FrankieHchannel
@FrankieHchannel 5 лет назад
Amber G I don’t particularly agree with that thesis. Male to female suicide is overwhelmingly one-sided, 25:1. “White people don’t have a history of being oppressed” in the last 200 years? True. Throughout history? Absolutely not. No matter your identity your group have been oppressed somewhere, in some horrendous manner in history. What about the romans using the British as slaves? Or Stalin’s purge of millions of Kulaks? I’d call enslavement and exploitation of working class and peasant whites throughout history pretty systematic oppression. But that’s no argument that one group identity has been oppressed, that’s what I’m saying. There are numerous examples throughout history of every group identity experiencing oppression, including blacks. I think this narrative of white males have always existed as oppressors has arisen because of an ignorance of at least the last 2,000 years of history; which exemplifies quite the contrary. If you’re interested in the subject, I’d recommend looking into Stephen Fry’s arguments against political correctness (his new book mythos delves into Greek history which tends to oppress too) The Tribe by Ben Cobley, and Maps of Meaning: An architecture of belief/ most other Jordan Peterson work. I don’t think you’re stupid for thinking this, it’s very noble to be concerned about others. I’d just say that these issues are so complex that a low-resolution analysis of the last 100 years of history isn’t enough to label certain groups ‘oppressors’ or ‘oppressed’, as throughout history we see time and time again that systematic suffering exists and exerts its influence upon every individual, regardless of their group identity. As for positions of power, it depends where you’re looking. For example, in the UK where I live, the population consists of 87% white males, so it make sense that roughly 87% of people in any position, regardless of gender, will likely be white. I believe there are more people of colour in America proportionally, however the same mechanisms still manifest themselves with regards to power. Conversely, if you look at African nations, most there in power will be be black, simply becuase the majority of their population is. I don’t buy the thesis that they’re educationally disadvantaged much either, 37% of black males go on to university in the UK once finish A levels, compared to 36% of white males. There’s practically no difference. Again, I am willing to be corrected as I’m rather ignorant about the statistics in terms of the US where issues of racism are perhaps more pronounced.

I think the Interviewer really tried to put Chris in an Us Vs Them position. Old Vs New or Conservative Vs Liberal. And Chris was not falling for it, perhaps she's used to these sorts of questions but she was just so respectful, patient and thoughtful with these rather daft and out of touch questions. He was trying to bring her into an ongoing debate and make her a voice of the societal shift towards less binary representation of gender when she simply makes decisions based on her art and her view of her own gender and sexuality at the time. The BBC are embarrassing themselves with these "interviews".
