Christmas Toy Memories - The Year I Got Hordak from Masters of the Universe 

I had a Hordak action figure as well. I was never scared of him but I created some fierce battles between not only him and He-Man but She-Ra and Skeletor as well. I had a lot of the Evil Horde figures and also the Fright Zone. Too bad Hordak looked nothing like he did in the She-Ra cartoon (I remember my Mom saying, "they colored him wrong!") but he was a very welcome addition to my Vintage MOTU collection.

One christmas present I'll never forget was when my cousin got me Spikor in 1987. Loved that figure

I got a Hordak for Xmas in 2010, MOTU Classics! still in the box. Also Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime) voice brings extra 80s nostalgia! 😀

I will never forget Christmas of 1988 when my mom and dad, bridging being divorced, "conspired" with all my aunts and uncles on both sides to get me every wave one Dino Rider.

Cool story, Dan. I was a spoiled only child who had most of the toys from most of the popular lines in the 1980s. But my Mom refused to let me have any of the Inhumanoids (Tendril, D'Compose , Metlar) for Christmas because they were "too ugly." Probably just as well. D'Compose always scared the crap out of me!

I love MOTU and I didn't grow up back then. I'm still growing up now with Transformers. So you telling this story means a lot. Thank you so much pixel Dan and I am still growing my vintage MOTU collection.

Dan, my wife has been really sick for most of December, so I wasn't much into the Christmas spirit this year. Your Christmas videos are a highlight of my Christmas season every year. I just watched this video and man, it put a smile on mu face and made me remember why I love Christmas. Thank you.

The very first Christmas I remember I got two big boxes from my parents. One box had the original MOTU line of action figures and the second had Castle Greyskull and a few of the vehicles. I loved those toys and they were the only ones I from my childhood I purposefully kept.

It hurts me when videos like these from you are so underwatched. I LOVE these videos, had them on my backlog for a while now. I hope you somehow find a way to bring these types of videos back outside of Christmas, toy memories.

I remember when I got him too. I got Hordak, Leech, Mantenna, and Grizzlor that year as well. I guess it was like 86 or something. Good times.

Those were amazing times for children.

I have a distinct memory of getting Tri-Klops.Because after my Mom bought him for me we got pulled over on the way home because my Mom didn't use a turn signal or got caught running a red light or something.First time in my life i ever encountered police and i thought we were going to jail,lol.So i was crying begging the officer not to take us to jail.And of course the officer and my Mom were laughing.And he let us go with no ticket.Everytime i look at Tri-Klops i think of that memory.

My best Christmas ever was also tied to MOTU. We didn't have a lot of money, so almost all my toys came from garage sales. I had a few He-man figures, and almost all were bad guys since I loved the monster looking guys. One Christmas I got up early with my dad while it was still dark out and hurried out to see a bunch of big packages in red wrapping bathed in the warm glow of lights under the tree, and it was amazing. We waited an hour to open everything until everyone else woke up, but he let me open one, just for us to enjoy. And it was King Hiss. To this day, I still get the warm and fuzzies remembering seeing him. That amazing Snake Man logo, the green armor, that heroic grin. And after opening him, finding out his incredible snake form which was terrifying and right up my alley. I read his mini comic a hundred times that day. Even now, Hiss is my favorite character because of his look and hiding a completely different and awesome monster form inside. I don't think I even knew of the Snake Men before then. Later that morning I unwrapped Rattlor (equally as amazing) and Tongue Lashor, and I took them with me freaking everywhere. Best Xmas memory ever, with a serious dream-like, almost magical buildup to Hiss himself. Plus they were the first ones (I think) that I actually got myself that I got to open. I'll never forget it. Lol. My dad was the same way. He viewed MOTU figures and Grayskull basically as "dolls" and a "dollhouse". Luckily my mom went to bat for me and he got over it. He'd probably be rolling over in his grave if he could see my current MOTUC collection.

A toy memory I had was with a Irwin Dragon ball z trunks saga trunks action figure. I wanted it so bad in stores and begged my parents. They always refused. Little before Christmas time, my mom brought me to the kitchen and said, "This was going to be a Christmas present but since you got good grades" she then revealed what she had behind her back. The trunks. I was so excited, I took it everywhere, took it to school etc. Played with it all the time. I still have it .. scratched, paint chipped beat up from heavy play.

That was hilarious PD. It didn't seem like Christmas back in the 80s without MOTU. I remember getting getting Mechaneck as a stocking stuffer, I think in 86, after I had lost my original one at my grandmothers. Course I didn't think I'd get another one because I tried shoplifting one a couple months before, I was such a noob.

Great Christmas Flashback. loved it! Hordak is a great figure, it really boosted the Motu toy line. It is a dark figure, great sculpt, face design and coloring. What Hordak did to you in '85, Grizzlor did to me at around the same time *LOL*. Great vid!

lol..I was totally expecting one of those flash scares of Hordak's face at the very end of this video!

I got Hordak on eastern 86 and Buzz-saw Hordak on eastern 87. Also got Hurricane Hordak, but I don't remember when exactly. And when I got my Castle Grayskull on christmas 85 I remember being very confused after opening the packaging and telling my parents there must be something wrong because two of the four sides of the wall were missing. Took the five year old me a little while to realise that it was supposed to be this way.

God bless you Dan! My first Masters of the Universe figure was Buzz Saw Hordak. I got it as soon as it arrived in Serbia. I went to the store with my mother and I remember, when I got the package I felt like I am gonna throw up from excitement! Few days ago, my new Buzz saw Hordak arrived me from the Mattystore! I have watched your reviews over and over and it bring a lot of good memories. I wish you a marry Christmas and happy New Year and lots of your excellent reviews. You are doing a wonderful job!

i gotta story for ya Danny, when i was 6 i had the best christmas ever because the best gift i got was some ninja turtle toys the one from the 2003 series, a nintendo gamecube along with mario kart double dash, and some bionicle then like every year we dine on christmas dinner good times, good times, well nice hearing your story take care and merry christmas

i have a story that involves MOTU,one year i asked for BA skeletor and BA he-man. i got skeletor from my parents,but no he-man,i was bummed cause you can't have one with out the other. i thought christmas was ruined,then i go to my aunts' house and got he-man,i played with those two for hours,and all was right in the world.

Nice idea. Christmas memories from our childhood are so precious. I'm almost 35 years old, and My older brother is almost 39, but to me he's still the little guy I used to wake up with at night. Crawling in the dark touching here and there to feel if Santa (Babbo Natale) had passed by already leaving us all the presents.

Awesome vid, makes me think of the year I got Panthro the Thundercat, for some reason that's nostalgic for me. I just ordered the new one from Matty, would have been cool if it was here in time for Christmas though to be able to truly relive that moment during Christmas again.

I think it's great that you shared this memory with us! I know it's hard to put into words how we felt when we were young. Even if joshing takes a turn that scares the crap out of us. I was terrified of this baby doll my mom had. Found out years later, my mom hated it also. She was trying to pawn it off on one of us kids. It had originally been hers. Ha-ha-ha!

Nice story Dan. (My older teenage brothers would say the same thing about my toys coming alive at night) The funny thing is, having been born in February of 1982, I just always kinda remember having She-Ra and Hordak. I don't remember getting them as much as I do most other 1985-1987 figures. I must have gotten them pretty early in the year.

pretty cool. it's a real trip to really look back at a figure that is less articulated and didn't look as spot on as the filmation cartoon and just seeing it as the coolest thing you'd want for Christmas. granted it may not look and be more articulated by today's standards but as a kid you just took what you can get. maybe in some future time there will be totally different molds of the masters of the universe filmation style figures that will be made loosely based off of a new animated film that teams masters of the universe and the dcau against the anti monitor with hordak and skeleton trying to take advantage of the situation and has a figure line based off of that and give everyone whose a fan to want it for Christmas

I was just recently telling my stories of getting some of my Motu figures, Not so much Christmas stories but I was telling my family infront of my mom how she was embarrassed about getting me n my brother a POP figure when we were in a store called Hills back when we used to live in Ohio, Hills was like a Kmart. Those were the stores we had back then, I can't remember which figure we got but my brother n I each picked out one figure. Then I remember we went to this party and my mom made dirt pudding in a flower pot, stuff was delicious. my brother n I played with the figures the whole time we were there..

The only MOTU I can really remember getting for Christmas is Battle Cat and maybe my Roton. Mainly because they were the only vehicle or beasts I had. Definitely remember getting Battle Cat as I got two of them. My mother all be it to late said I should of kept one in the box. Had two to play with now I have two boy and can save arguments on who gets to play with Battle Cat.
