Alina and Melinda talk about some of the exciting things that happen on the Bruderhof communities during the Advent and Christmas days. www.bruderhof.com
It sounds so wonderful to celebrate Christmas as a community. The only time I celebrated Christmas as a community was in Mokpo, South Korea. It was truly memorable.
You ladies did such lovely carvings! (Well, until the arm came off... ;) ) I loved hearing about your Christmas traditions; they were very beautiful and meaningful. Thank you for sharing!
I love handmade gifts. It is all i have done for the last 10 years. I'm not sure if I could carve as well as you two...I might be able to carve a straight worm, maybe! Good job ladies! God Bless all of you and your community.
Yes, Lucia is Swedish and we celebrate it here on December 13th.🥰 Only one girl gets to be Lucia and she wears a crown with candles. The other girls are "tärnor" and they wear glitter around their head. The boys dress for example as "Gingerbread man". God bless you and thank you for sharing your hearts and lives. ❤️
Nina ✝️❤️✝️No it’s not Swedish, I am Swedish my self! It’s catholic tradition and Saint Lucia was a very dark woman from Siracusa Italy. Read the bible, idolatry is forbidden ( don’t worship nothing but God ) and Christmas have nothing to do with Jesus birthday or ✝️ Christianity. Det är inget annat än en hednisk tradition
Sounds lovely 😊 We don't keep Christmas any more because of the world's view of MONEY, SPEND, GIMME, SHOP, DEBT & SANTA. But THIS is refreshing! Centered around Jesus! Absolutely wonderful!
Thank you for sharing your loely Xmas traditions. I am Catholic but I think all Christians should probably live in community as you do. Too often we are seduced by the false values of the world.
Here are some german traditional Christmas sweets : Spekulatius, (cookies) Dominosteine, my favorite (gingerbread, jam, marzipan on top of another coated with dark chocolate) Glühwein, (hot wine with x-mas spices. Optional hot red juices mixed together with Glühwein-Spices) Pfeffernüsse, Lebkuchen.... (both gingerbread based), Stollen (sweet bread with raisins, orangeat, zitronat, covered in powdered sugar) ..... maybe you guys wanna try making some of those typical german sweets for upcoming christmas.
I absolutely love this, like I have loved everything I have seen and heard so far about Bruderhofs. I am surprised, though, that you do celebrate Christmas. I thought since you live so close by the bible, you would not celebrate it, like the Jehovah's Witnesses.
I remember Amhal and the night visitors from School. 'This is all we shepherds can offer you' warbled by the girls ....'thank you thank you thank you kindly' gruffly sung by the boys.....LOL and all the children trying not to sing loud enough to stand out above the others. Sigh! Agree about the Christmas present giving, commercialism kills the real meaning of christmas .
@@Bruderhof The song? Music Lessons at school in inner city London about 1975. We had a slide show first and then spent the rest of the lesson 'performing' it.
Children do not have access to the Internet, but some of the adults use Internet for work, such as doing research. This is one example that is approved, using the Internet for outreach. But they do not use the Internet for entertainment.
@@brittneybracht7059 Jesus spoke in parables. That means that the true meaning of the Bible is not literal. This means the Bible is full of eternal wisdom if you can understand it for yourself. Thus, Christianity's pagan roots are merely comparisons of eternal truth and wisdom, what of paganism's roots? Can you define paganism even into an actual thing for comparison? You certainly can't with judeo Christianity which has many branches. Doctrinal or religious differences are meant to be laughed about, the deeper meaning is Love.
Very nice and I agree with most of the sentiment, I like the spiritual life, I don't follow so called 'celebs' and I'm certainly no fashionista, but those clothes...man they're completely rank (and I'm 63)!!!
Many Bruderhof members come from German, Swiss or British families and many also lived in South America. Some are from Australia and South Korea and some live in Austria, As well as other ethnic backgrounds. When you put all this together, and add in the lack of exposure to American TV, you will get a slightly unique accent.
I think the movement started in Germany. I don't think they could be bored more than anyone else. When people use the phrase ' we all need distractions' they mean from 'real' life which is usually like wage slavery. The best distraction from 'life' is to enjoy life. 😀
My Norwegian female friend said Santa Lucia Day was a horrible memory. "They always picked the hottest girl to wear the candles." And then all the other girls felt bad.
