I love how simple this is. It's not a flashy performance, he doesn't have any big graphics or dancers in the background. It's just simply a man on stage performing a song. And he took home the Oscar for Best Original Song. :)
amwfan88 You’re absolutely right! I said the same thing about Stephen Bishop’s Oscar performance of “It might be you” . I think it’s because back then musicians had to work a little harder to make it onto any kind of scene. They actually had to learn instruments and possess some kind of talent! I believe that’s why the music that we grew up on is golden compared to a lot of the music we’re subjected to today ! Not that it’s all bad just a little less desirable!
Not to mention how competitive the category was in '81. The other four nominees could each have won in weaker years, especially "Endless Love". This song was just that much of a monster hit (as was the movie, which is really ripe for rediscovery).
Such wonderful days… such wonderful memories…we need to make this era come back again. So much real talent abounded everywhere - we were so fortunate. I felt so appreciative then and I still do now.
I have no idea what your comment means. Most singers of pop music are in their 20s (or teens) when they make it big, so are you saying that it's scary that he only became popular later in life than most pop singers?
I have an old Oscars highlight tape and watched it a bit as a kid, and always thought even then he looked so nervous. Rightfully so. I'd be scared to death..lol
Once in your life you find her Someone that turns your heart around And next thing you know you're closing down the town Wake up and it's still with you Even though you left her way across town Wondering to yourself: Hey, what've I found? When you get caught between the Moon and New York City I know it's crazy, but it's true If you get caught between the Moon and New York City The best that you can do The best that you can do is fall in love Arthur he does as he pleases All of his life, he's mastered choice Deep in his heart, he's just, he's just a boy Living his life one day at a time And showing himself a really good time Laughing about the way they want him to be When you get caught between the Moon and New York City I know it's crazy, but it's true If you get caught between the Moon and New York City The best that you can do The best that you can do is fall in love When you get caught between the Moon and New York City I know it's crazy, but it's true If you get caught between the Moon and New York City The best that you can do The best that you can do is fall in love
@@Alrica100 Me too! I listen to these songs all the time. Here's 3 more for you sweetheart: Can't Help Fallin in Love with You by Elvis... Never My Love by The Association, Laughter in the Rain by Neil Sedaka. I could go on and on with more great romantic love songs. ❤
Hard to believe this was exactly 40 years ago. Even harder to believe that this is the same Oscars that in 40 years later would give us Chris Rock being bitch slapped by Will Smith 😂. Still though, I miss this classiness. We could never get the likes of Christopher Cross at a ceremony like this again. 😔
