You can just tell what a great artist and entertainer Michael McDonald is backing up another legend with no vibe of upstaging Christopher Cross. Just being able to bust it out on his part with confidence and soul but it's still Chris' song. Wow!
cant belive me (in my 20s) got to hear this live , one of my favorite moments of my life so far, suprised my dad with tickets and it was a once and a lifetime thing to see live. so glad i was rasied to listen and love this type of music.
Chris Cross is not only an outstanding vocalist and songwriter, but he can play the Bejeezus out of a guitar. He doesn't show it off very often, but the man has mad skills.
What IS it about that voice? Always made me crazy thinking about it. The delivery, sounds like he has a Life Saver in his mouth and tryin' to keep in place. I’ll ask Wings of Pegasus about doing Michael Macdonald. Have you seen his channel? A guitarist music scholar,. If you watch only one, see how he breaks down distinctive style of Sam Cooke. Or Hendrix........ ohhhhhh, that’s it......

Our 24 yr old son made a Mother's Day gift for me which was a custom platy list for me. THE best gift ever!! This song was on it! Great just to listen to, jog to or on your bike. Two great voices.
Incredible how Michael McDonald’s parts are so small but SO important to the song. It would not have been the same without him. His vocals as ad libs and backgrounds sound so incredible and are so crucial on more records than most people realize
Michael McDonald has a Very Special and unique voice, and beautiful too. I am SO glad he is still making music and sharing it with us! We appreciate that you still care about your fans and still provide and share your music with us here on this platform. Whereas there are SO many performances that we would never have seen, from across the country and across the world. I am VERY glad that I get to see other performances here on RU-vid. Thank you! 💜💜

Love how Christopher cross and Michael mcdonald both acknowledged each other at the end of this performance of this great soulful hit they both recorded together!!
Michael McDonald doesn’t get the credit he deserves. His voice is so iconic and I’m convinced he has been every song worth remembering from the 70s 80s. Christopher Cross, Kenny Loggins and Steely Dan just to name a few
Warren G and Nate Dogg/ regulate : sampled I keep forgetting and most people don't even realize. not to take anything away from them too but it's almost like getting a free hit you can't go wrong it's hard to fuck that melody up lol.
This is music folks.... No Auto-Tune..... Just pure talent .... and Steve Gadd on Drums!!!! For those that don’t know who Steve Gadd is, he is one of the greatest, worlds most recorded drummers...
Let's not forget Michael McDonald help Christopher Cross get started in the music business. These 2 men are ICONIC love this song. Michael has a one of a kind voice you know it's him as so as you hear it.
Favorite favorite song that is sung by Christopher Cross. He has an interesting voice and I love to listen to him as well as Michael McDonald. Absolutely love these two guys. Wonderful to hear them!
+Dave Bliss He was on Sunday Morning a month or so ago and he said he was traveling and a ticket agent said to him, " Christopher Cross, there used to be a chap by that name who sang well but he passed" funny thing is he has written hundrads of songs that you would know he just didn't perform
He is a great guitarist, my statement was true I watched him on the show Sunday Morning and he said it.....Christopher Cross said it he is alive it was just something someone said to him
sebom141 to be slightly contrary...michael mcdonald is one of the most prolific voices of our times...and i agree that his sound stands out as remarkably unique, but to call him underrated?...if he is “underrated “ he’s kinda underrated like Donald Fagen or Darryl Hall or Bob Dylan. if i had a million bucks to produce a single,i’d drop $250k for one sung word from mr. mac donald that i could use throughout the song
What great talent! Chris Cross on fantastic leads and a humble Michael McDonald playing second fiddle in the background. Two national treasures....we're blessed to have your music.
You are 100% right! I have always loved Michael Mcdonald and Chris Cross too and i still do and i to this day always watch their videos of the 70s and still watch them now very often because these two are amazing talents as well and i love their duo together singing Chris's hit Ride Like the Wind. They are amazing together and we are so blessed to have their music because they all helped make the 70s one of a kind music era for sure and all of us who lived those days with it there is no comparison.
Yes it was! So much talent with the most beautiful soulful voice and there is no mistaking it. I love all his songs and he is beautiful on the inside and on the outside.
I love the way Christopher Cross takes to the stage. So laid back. So unlike a rock star. He’s recovering from Covid. All the best in getting back to full health soon. So many memorable songs. So unpretentious.
I have heard this song a thousand times since it was released when I was just a child, plus I am a musician for decades, and I also worked in music production for years as well, but this version of "Ride Like the Wind" gave me goosebumps the whole way through. Outstanding, absolutely spot on performance. Chris, and Michael were of course great, but the band was as close to perfect as them as well. BRAVO!
Grew up on Michael McDonald!!! My dad would play the Doobie brothers albums on the weekends while my brother & I were home from school and he had a reel to real to record it😀. I’m 53 years old now and reflect 😂. My Dad raised us right ❤!!!
Any song that has Michael McDonald's voice always reminds me of my very beloved uncle, the late Carl Smith; he was a lifetime fan of the Doobie Brothers!! Continue RIHP, Mr Brilliance!! 💘 🎶 😍 🎹 Miss you!!
As much as it is true that we will never truly bring back artists back from the awesome seventies to perform for us, it is with great pleasure that we have their great performances neatly tucked away in archives to remember these great bands. If I had the ability to bring them back as they were in the height of their performances it would be now, we have lost a great culture of music, what is out there now is what they call music, it is not!! I lived the 70s, we will never pass that way again.
You are very right about that. The 70s were the very best of all times and if you could bring them back i would love it because it was a very good culture of music and i had the honor of living in the 70s too and i was a very happy teenager with the music and groups that were so very talented. They sang from their heart and those songs and talent will never be rewrote again because the old days cant be brought back but i sure wish they could because i miss the old days and i always played my music back then and i still listen to it now and im 63 but i will never forget and im so thankful for each and every group and amazing songs they gave us.
I'm 56 and this has always been one of my all time favorites, I am forever indebted with this brilliant musician for managing to put a smile on my face every time I hear this song...even during the hardest of times.
I agree with you. Songs back then were so beautiful and the groups and solo's were amazing with their talents and ability to make us feel so happy and peaceful with their voices and all the great music they brought for us all to enjoy. Times with America were very relaxing and their music always takes you to happy times and memories. They were great then and they are great now and i love many more talented groups of those years too and im 63 now but havent forgot one thing about how happy the years were then and ppl just seemed so much happier than now with all the stress in their lives. Very good more simpler times. In school i was always glad when Friday's came because it meant a long happy weekend being with family and friends but now not as much, everyone is always just trying to make it in life but my music of all those years ago always make me feel peaceful and makes me think im right back there again.
Ditto…I just turned 66 and it’s high volume every time I hear this great song…and this superb live capture from Cross, McDonald & great ensemble of musicians is off the charts!
I have the privilege of seeing Christopher Cross up front when he did a one night only concert in the 90s. He was in his 100% A game at that time. He rocks the whole room. It was a very memorable experience in my life. Spectacularly Superb performance
I know Chris personally. He's a fantastic guy. Born in San Antonio as Christopher Ghephart, he rose to fame as one of the only musicians to ever win 5 Grammys and one Oscar in one year! After moving to Austin, he was spotted for his guitar work by Michael Omartian, a basically Christian producer. When he heard Chris sing, he brought to Warners where everyine the Warner's stable begged to be on his first album, the historically classic Grammy winner with McDonald and Nicolette Larson on board. Just a little FYI while you listen.
Love seeing Steve Porcaro in the background doing his signature "Elaine" dance.' Great live performer but even better composer and musician--as were all of his brothers. The Porcaro family--what a dynasty!
