I like how religious ppl always come to videos like this & start trolling here, desperately trying to turn atheists towards religion. And if they don´t succeed, threatening with hellfire. As if their dim-witted, primitive, clumsy, supersticious, incoherent, intolerant babble would stand the slightest chance against the deep, astute, bright, brilliant arguments of ppl like Hitch, Dawkins, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, etc. Way to go, guys :)

+USERNAMEfieldempty Around year 2000 i was healed from colon cancer. i was about to die and i cried out to Jesus and this power came over me and i was instantly healed. Afterwards I felt like i was floating on a cloud for days with so much peace and joy that can not be explained. im sorry so many don't know that Jesus really does exist. I hope he will reveal himself to all of those reading this comment like he did me. I am sometimes amazed that he allowed me to know about him and his power, but so many others still don't know, because of pride and arrogance. Don't let the devil fool you with religions, and his decoys and lies spoken through those who think they are wise, and don't be discouraged by those who are not always a good example of the love of Jesus. God and Jesus is real, and he created you and he loves you very much, and wants to save you from his wrath that will come on those who reject his words. Call on the name of Jesus and he will save you today and show you great and mighty things that you do not know. Jeremiah 33:3: Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. I beseech you to believe that God does exist, and to ignore the teachings of Hitchens. I assure you that Hitchens believes in God now. I bet if he was able to come back to life and walk again on this earth he would be begging every one right now to ignore all his teachings that says not to believe in the son of God. Atheism is only a temporary condition; it disappears rapidly after the final breath is breathed. "For God sent not his Son into the word to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." John 3:17

+Ranch Hand You offer no proof. Even if what you say is true, that you were 'about to die' of colon cancer ( and you don't die of colon cancer unless it metastasizes to other organs) and suddenly your cancer went into remission and your tumors shrunk and disappeared, it would be absolutely no proof of the intercession of a personal God who metaphysically broke the laws of nature and 'cured' you. Can you not see this logical point?

Ranch Hand Thanks for what u have written. I get so discouraged sometimes especially by athiests...it's all the arrogance of the mind, thinking it knows all there is to know. Reason And logic, our new gods. No, I know the truth like u do.
@kairigby9117
@kairigby9117 5 лет назад
@@dreamsofturtles1828 Atheists don't have arrogance. YOU DO! With statements like "I know the truth". That's so arrogant and incorrect. Atheists claim not to believe in a god or gods due to the obvious fact there is absolutely NO EVIDENCE whatsoever for gods. Theists are the ones who claim to know the truth as you just did. So PROVE IT!!! Ah that's right, you can't. Tell me, why are you not Muslim? They have a shitty old book with a collection of goat herder stories too. The answer is that you born in a country where Christianity was the most prevalent religion. Had you been born in Saudi Arabia you would be a Muslim and you would claim that to be truth just like you are now for Christianity. You are deluded. Mentally ill. I honestly believe that religious belief is a sickness of the mind and it scares me that I have to live alongside clinically insane people who believe in virgin births, resurrections, miracles and invisible undetectable beings in the sky. It's disturbing. Truly.

@Dubbadizzo86
@Dubbadizzo86 8 лет назад
FRAGIORGIO1 I asked you first. Answer my question and I'll answer yours.
@Dubbadizzo86
@Dubbadizzo86 8 лет назад
FRAGIORGIO1 Yes I did ask a question, that would be what the question mark was for. But I digress. Well being that you're a Christian commenting on a Christopher Hitchens video you're probably pretty solid in your delusions, so I doubt this conversation's going to get very far, but I'll attempt to answer your questions. If I feel however that I'm wasting my time (which I probably am) I'm going to dismiss myself from the conversation. How much I am wasting my time depends on you. If at any point you fail to answer my questions or divert the topic, the conversation is over. Now onto your question. Firstly, I can't agree or disagree because I don't know whether or not North Korea is an atheistic Marxist-Leninist state. I do know that the suffering that goes on in NK has nothing to do with atheism. A lack of a belief in a god has no bearing on economic or tyrannical policies. I also know that just because a government is Marxist, doesn't make it also a totalitarian government. So honestly, I don't what you're getting at and secondly I don't understand how any of this is relevant to my original comment you initially replied to. So what exactly are you claiming? Are you claiming that Christopher Hitchens likes North Korea, or that atheism is responsible for Marxism? What's your argument?
@Dubbadizzo86
@Dubbadizzo86 8 лет назад
FRAGIORGIO1 I disagree with your conclusions, and I think I will continue to get chills by the eloquent and genius writings and speeches by Mr. Hitchens. I'll do what I want, I am under no obligation to submit to your idea of what you think is right. You can rightly fuck off.
@Dubbadizzo86
@Dubbadizzo86 8 лет назад
FRAGIORGIO1 How very Christian of you. First of all, my initial comment was a reaction and my opinion to Christopher Hitchens, not a statement. I didn't make an argument or make a claim. You chose to berate me. Secondly, I have no desire to engage in a discussion with someone that appears to do nothing but insult someone on their way of thinking. Thirdly, you decided to engage in a battle, not me, and instead of being respectful, you've been a dick. I didn't seek you out. I didn't start the conversation. You replied to my comment. And just to tell me you think I'm sad? Sorry, but I don't know what world you live in where that grants you points but you're not winning any with me. Finally, I haven't given you my reasons, I've only stated that I disagree with you, but you seem to think I'm not very informed simply because I don't share the same opinions as you. You have no understanding of who I am or what I know, and you drawing conclusions of me without evidence is the height of ignorance. Stands to reason why you would believe in a God. You sir are not a nice person. You should evaluate how you choose to talk to people in the future. Maybe even remind yourself what it means to follow Christ, because you are not a good Christian. From your very first comment I figured you'd be like this. Consider yourself lucky you even got this far with me. I don't have the energy to debate with someone online about beliefs that are so solid it would take years to unravel. I just don't have the energy. This is my final message. I've wasted enough time on you.

Ranch Hand . Why did Jesus save you and not the millions of others that must have prayed? What about all those atheists' and believers in different gods who survived cancer. You can't just chalk up any fortunate event as an act of God and claim everything else is the word of the devil. That's how I expect a 5 year old to explain the world. Are you 5 years old? Moreover, why do you worship a God you believe gave you a horrible illness? One who only took mercy on you because you grovelled and plead? So far everybody who has disagreed with me has given very snappy, snidey replies with no actual counter argument attached. That doesn't seem like a very educated way of going about things. Notice that Hitchens didn't just stand up and say "bullshit" then sit down again - he took the time to lay out some of the reasons for his claim. That's what persuaded me.

Professor Stephen Hawking sets out to answer the question: "Did the Universe need a creator?" The answer he gives is a resounding "no". Ignorance and lack of logic is the essence of God believers. Stephen hawking is probably the most qualified human being to answer this question and yet the believer armed with only a washed brain and blind faith will argue with no knowledge against the deepest thinkers on this planet.

_For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness."_ (1 Corinthians 3:19) Yes, he _is_ the most qualified human being to answer that question. That's what makes it so sad.
@ungertron
@ungertron 9 лет назад
FRAGIORGIO1 Hold on now, Stephen Hawking & I believe in the multi-verse but science has not measured other universes yet, they are likely mathematically using M-Theory, but not verified yet. Hawking rejects the silly manmade supernatural gods of the worlds religions. All those supernatural manmade gods are just metaphors for the integrated self-activating laws of nature & forces of physics that compose the supreme reality, the big bang creator, evolver & ruler of the universe --- the real all natural God.
@ungertron
@ungertron 9 лет назад
FRAGIORGIO1 Ha I'm not an atheist I am a hard core believer, I have all my faith in God, not science or reason and certainly not any of the ungodly supernatural based manmade religions. Alan Guth cosmology scientist at MIT speculates that in the far future we may be able to obey the laws of nature regarding the inflation of a universe that will cause the forces of physics to actualize our own universe. In other words God just might permit us to make our own universe. Now this means that in a past universe, hyper advanced entities could have inflated our own universe with their Quantic Cosmos Inflater. These spiritual machines could be headed our way in their fleet of starships with plans to contact us. We could find out the details about the Deiocracy of all existence that we reside in. God actualizes & rules this Deiocracy that includes countless universes many with very different calibrations of universal constants. Other universes include many with more dimensions than we have. All the most advanced entities of our own & other universes are technological entities living in an age of spiritual machines. We will soon join the post-human next step in evolution with our own age of spiritual machines here on earth. We will all become immortal, God permitting, by being scanned into quantic reality simulators by neutrino/graviton scanners. The heaven that we will experience is beyond our wildest dreams because it is tailor-made to our own brain specifications. Now all this other universe future speculation could possibly be true, but all real truth is actualized by God, not us.
@ungertron
@ungertron 9 лет назад
FRAGIORGIO1 You're welcome, this is my favorite subject. Trying to understand God is very difficult. We are like two sunflowers trying to understand the farmer. Where is the farmer's flower that fallows the sun? Where are the farmer's roots that plant him into the soil? The farmer is totally different than the sunflowers that he tends, just like we are totally different than God that divinely evolved us.
@ungertron
@ungertron 9 лет назад
FRAGIORGIO1 LOL Christian doctrine states if you don't accept Christ as your savior then you go to hell right? I might have missed something. Yea Christ was a Jew that is true but things changed after Christ was crucified right? So Jews get to heaven even if they reject Christ as the son of God? I might have been to one too many hell fire fundamentalist churches I like Spiderman, I had a pet black widow as a kid. I look at the scientific evidence for a measurable creator & ruler of the universe and the natural sciences can not measure the supernatural so the doctrine is not part of the objective proof.

Yes, you're right about wars fought in the name of religion. My comment was a 'tongue and cheek' response to Suddenly Right's assumption and not meant to be 100% valid - mea culpa. On the other hand wars have not been fought "mostly for territory and power". blogs.lse.ac.uk/europpblog/2013/07/16/most-wars-are-not-fought-for-reasons-of-security-or-material-interests-but-instead-reflect-a-nations-spirit/ "He finds that contrary to the expectations of most international relations theories, wars fought primarily for reasons of security, or material interests, have been relatively rare. Rather, motivations related to a nation’s ‘spirit’, such as the standing of a country or revenge, have been the principal causes of most wars." +Gergő Hahn The opening line was equivalent to a politician giving a one liner at a bucolic town hall meeting. Under further analysis, like most ill contrived one liners its lack of rational logic is embarrassing silly at best. Hutchens places science before God? OK, then why didn't he have the common sense to observe the basic science of overindulgence? What? He thought it was glamorous to drink and smoke himself to an early grave to replicate the tortured writer archetype? I guess he showed everyone that if you abuse yourself you too can go to an early grave. Take a look at throat cancer, did you ever see someone die from it? Not very glamorous! That's the mentality you're applauding - why don't I think he had much of substance to say! Not a very introspective individual after all, a hard drinking smoking individual who was more show that substance. How does anybody find glamour in that? "The unexamined life is not worth living." Plato R

+mosfet500 You know what's silly? Redundancy. "Rational logic"? Are you kidding me? And your castigation of CH for his drinking is nothing but a cheap and lazy evasion.
@mosfet500
@mosfet500 8 лет назад
+Robert Hill I raised the issue of CH's over indulgences, not as an ad hominem attack but to show continuity of actions. The same poor critical thinking that defines God by the frailties of man, justifies his excess drinking. Of course the paradox here is that he's throwing stones while living in a glass house. But if you really want to raise the issue of "cheap" than I'd have to go with his middle finger to a crowd. Personally I call that intellectual bankruptcy and, you see, it fits - we simply can not fragment our actions. They define us regardless whether we are over indulging on booze or cursing a crowd. This is who he was. Sorry, if the shoe fits wear it! Now, do you have a rebuttal to my argument or not? "Are you kidding me" is just your opinion void of facts and reason. If you want to defend Hitchens' position then here's your chance! R
@jackqueen1
@jackqueen1 8 лет назад
+mosfet500 A rebuttal might be that you know very little about the brains underpinning neural and cognitive functions, as well as any idea regarding human behaviour. Someone with an addictive personality is not excluded from rational thought. The anterior cingulate cortex activity, known comically to us psychologists as the "Uh oh" response in the brain which tells us when we're wrong, is not diminished in people who demonstrate addicted personality tendencies. They know what they're doing is harmful, but in some cases are unable to stop for reasons buried in completely separate trauma. Now religious people do suffer from irrational thought processes and studies on them have found that the anterior cingulate cortex activity in them is significantly less active, usually caused by practices such as meditation and prayer which have been shown to alter neural connections in the brain. This is what keeps them believing in their fallacies despite having no evidence to support their claims, a lack of rational and critical thinking which is fiercely assisted by that part of the brain. Your argument that someone with an addictive personality cannot therefore be called upon to think rationally actually has evidence against it and none for it other than your idea of common sense. I'm afraid it is your argument that is void of facts and reason. Common sense is faulty.

I would have to disagree. Peter is a writer of considerable ability, an excellent speaker, and able to run things (so a good manager). He just happens to have a very difficult side of the argument to carry. Christopher had years of really hard arguing experience (because of his opinions), Peter didn't have the quite same exposure to that, so isn't as aggressive. Peter does have a set of principles, based on his faith, and he does stick to them, for which he has to be admired. Even if you don't agree with his arguments or his faith, he is still a very capable person. The Hitchens family must have been a fascinating place when they were growing up! So much brilliance and ability in the same household. What is also clear is that they both had the opportunity to discuss and debate from an early age, allowing them to develop a wide range of mental skills. It says a lot about the ability and skills of their parents. While the boys probably spent a fair amount of time away at school, given the genetics, home life must have been interesting!

nwjh1957 I've seen Peter debate and I maintain my position. Of course, he has a "difficult" side of the argument. Because that side is *dumb* and *self-contradicting*. To claim that DNA etc. are too complex to form on their own, so they required an intelligent creator, then turn around and claim that you can get a *gazillion times more complex*, super-intelligent being *for free*, is the *dumbest* and most *ass-backward double standard* humans have ever tried to sell. No amount of speaking skills / practice will make up for being dumb-enough to not only fall for this, but basing one's entire life's philosophy on it and trying to *promote* this idiotic position. You can have all the "debating skills" and "writing experience" in the world. If you think that the Moon is made of cheese, or that houses are built by invisible pink unicorns, you are an *idiot*.
@nwjh1957
@nwjh1957 8 лет назад
I didn't say that he was correct, nor did I say that his argument was sensible or logical. Many people were brought up in a faith, and their experience was largely positive. When the belief is so deeply entrenched, it is very hard to just drop it: it is so connected to the sense of self that the gap would be far worse than almost anything else. Peter has adopted a set of principles from his religious beliefs and they work for him. Like any set of principles, there are contradictions and issues, as well as extremists, and you have to work with that. But to claim that someone who has a different viewpoint is an idiot is an ad hominem attack. You must attack his argument. If you prevail, you may persuade him. But an ad hominem attack will simply reinforce the idea that non-believers are not civilized people. Many people of faith have shifted over time as arguments have been made against the tenets of religion in a civilized manner. I watched it happen with an extended discussion over homosexuality, where every Biblical reference was brought out, analyzed and discussed as to meaning in a non-threatening atmosphere. The end result was greater acceptance and tolerance. A gradual shift. The fact that the Bible has more, and far more explicit, statements against getting tattoos than about homosexuality hit home to a number of people. In the words of the old saying, you will catch more flies with a teaspoon of honey than with a gallon of vinegar.

nwjh1957 Yet, Christopher managed to "drop it", or have always seen through the bullshit. My original point still stands. You are just helping to prove it even more...
@nwjh1957
@nwjh1957 8 лет назад
Many people drop their faith, for various reasons. Some look at the scene and see mainly the good. Others look at the same scene and see mainly the bad. Interesting that brothers with similar backgrounds would look at it from such different positions. If you see the good, you want it to work, and you will put in the effort to try to make it work. I am sure that Peter has run across far more difficult challenges to his beliefs than an argumentative brother. Because religion is tied so very closely to one's sense of self, in a way that is too deep to be readily accessible by reason and logic, it is not so easy to just 'drop it.' The more work you've put into it, the harder it is to drop. Try to be a little charitable and to see that a real person exists beyond their faith. If you can't avoid judging the whole person as an idiot, based on their faith alone, how are you different from ISIS (and other) terrorists?

There is nothing about Jesus that remotely points to slavery. Jesus had disciples, not slaves. He could have had thousands of slaves if he wanted to. Total obedience does not mean slavery. If God is the creator he has the right to demand total obedience. Not because of slavery but to maintain the order without which peace would be impossible. This man should have focused on Atheism without attempting to interpret the bible he barely understood.
@trommelbiel

+Josh Oberlander A slave is not allowed to voice his opinion. when was the last time someone openly criticised Kim Jon Un? This man spent most of his time preaching against God and writing books that mock God yet he considers himself to be a slave to the God that never existed. Delusional is the word. Was it slavery that caused a Christian nation to legalizes same sex marriage? was it slavery that causes a Christian nation to legalize abortion? Imagine what could have happened if God did not have those laws.
@thedogspotandcatstoo4363
@thedogspotandcatstoo4363 8 лет назад
+Josh Oberlander Jesus is not a dicator. Have you researched grace? He came to fulfill the law. That means that all previous laws were broken. He was the ending sacrafice. You are "free" to do what you will, But once you trust in The Lord as you Savior, believing that he died for you sins. You are made new. The church is made of hypocrites. That is the entire point. If you walk into a church that thinks that they are better then you then they do not follow the word of God. He died for you. You WILL sin again, BUT the HOLY SPIRIT will intervene. If you let him into your heart you will understand the words that are written and you will Love your God as a child loves his Father. You will be urged to go against sin because your father. The Lord gave us all free will. I would never want to worship a God that forced me to follow him. He loves us enough to give us that choice. You may not understand but "All things are made new through Jesus Christ our Lord". I love you, I will pray for you and God bless you.
@thedogspotandcatstoo4363
@thedogspotandcatstoo4363 8 лет назад
+Josh Oberlander Thank you for replying. I did read your comments and that is why I chose to intervene. The things that the two of you were debating left out the New Testament completely. That is why I moved toward the discussion of grace and faith. Neither testament is complete without the other. It would be unfair to speak of one without the other. Most of the things that you are saying are the exact samethings I argued 2 years ago. I believed everything that I said with all my heart. I will never imply that I know the full story but after being persuaded by The Lord and opening my heart I was able to understand. I remember sitting on a barstool and asking a friend, "So you are telling me that if Hitler repented at his last moments and found Christ that he would be in Heaven?" She said yes. This made me so angry. After all, I'm a good person. I don't hurt anyone. I'm more or less honest. I deserve to go to Heaven just like so many others. That's messed up. This religion is WRONG. It is made up. Only the naive or the addicted would ever fall for such a scam. In regard to your next statement. I totally understand where you are coming from. How in the world could a loving God condemn good people that had never heard of Jesus to Hell? That was a BIG one for me. One that dives deep into theology. One that can't be explained via youtube. The short answer I have is that he does reveal himself. The easy answer is that God knows your soul before you were in your mother's womb. He chooses people. They are his elect. I can assure you that it does not matter where you live in the world or what your circumstances are, if you are elect God finds you and you choose him because it would be impossible to deny such a love. My second answer can be thrown for debate. It is Biblical but I understand that we can't debate scripture of the Bible with a person who shows no credit toward it. (And that's ok). God shows himself to every single person. We have all seen proof of The Lord. There are just those that choose to harden their hearts toward him. At one point this was me. I find myself beyond blessed to have had my eyes open. Now, in regard to your last statement. You asked me to make a choice. You are referring to free will. Here are your options. 1. There is no free will in Heaven, because there is no suffering in Heaven. 2. And I'm just going to copy for times sake..."There is a way in which we can still have free will, but not have suffering. Maybe we can choose between A,B,C (Good choices) but not D (A choice that brings about suffering). This is still free will, we just don't have the option to choose the bad one. But if this is the case, then why didn't God just make our free will like this in the first place, so that there is no suffering on earth? He let suffering occur because he is not just. " There is one thing you neglected to think about in this. It is that fall of man. God created us without sin. We would never die. There would not be any suffering. Even with the animals. The lion laid with the lamb. But our Lord. He loves us and more importantly he wants us to love him. He gave us the option to turn away from him. He put a tree in the middle of the garden. A tree that I am sure they saw everyday. Everyday they had the choice to obey God or disobey. In the end we chose to disobey. Man fail. We accepted our flesh. Our flesh is not Holy. God is Holy and can not be with the unholy. From that moment death and suffering entered our world. Not because God didn't love us. Because he loves us so much that he gave us that ability to choose to love him. In Heaven, sin is beyond our comprehension. In Heaven there is no sin. There is no sin because the devil is bound. We cannot comprehend what is like to not have sin on our hearts because since the day we were born we were born unto the flesh. Unto satan. Just because we are in Heaven and don't sin, doesn't mean a lack of free will. It simply means that we are free from satan that promotes sin. We will have no urge to sin. Not because we don"t have free will but because our will is not exploited by the one the seeks to kill, steal, and destroy.

God? Did he create a lead acid battery too? How about the Hubble telescope? Just wondering. Humans didn't "endow" dogs with a long life. Why? As far as nature - canines do just fine as species with such successful strategies as fast maturation and large number of offspring - something humans are terrible at - short lifespan is one of many trade-offs...

FRAGIORGIO1 God of the gaps argument is quite old. People didn't know how fire was created, or how wind worked, or why volcanoes erupted and gods were created for those natural events. I suggest you educate yourself more on the universe to see just how poor your argument for the order of the universe is. Even if you can't get away from believing a higher power created it all, you still have a lot of proving that there is a personal theistic God behind it all. By the way, if there was such a being that exists as the christian God, according to the bible we're nothing more then experiments that God purposely setup to fail to begin with and to him we're disposable trash....... sounds more like the teachings of humans. We're not made in Gods images, Gods were made in ours. "Which is it, is man one of God’s blunders or is God one of man’s?" ---- Friedrich Nietzsche
@CryptoPump610
@CryptoPump610 8 лет назад
FRAGIORGIO1 Also to add, there are 100s of billions of stars in our galaxy, and there are 100s of billions of galaxies, trust me we're not as special and unique as we want to believe, nor is our planet and maybe..... just maybe ..... even our universe.
@CryptoPump610
@CryptoPump610 8 лет назад
FRAGIORGIO1 Or maybe you simply can't live without believing you know a secret know one else knows. Simply put you're living a life in delusion. Think about this for a moment, given the vast ways humans have created to communicate with each other from long distances and the amount of ways of proving evidence of something, how is it the creator of the universe could only think of a book for it's revelation. The answer is quite simple really, this being if it does exist hasn't given such a revelation, nor is he a personal being like theists love to think and maybe ...... just maybe ....... the universe is more natural than we thought and we simply live in a multiverse. Perhaps our existence is just an illusion or a simulation, all which make far more sense then any traditional theistic Gods that left their revelation in human tampered books. "Gods are fragile things; they may be killed by a whiff of science or a dose of common sense." --- Chapman Cohen
@CryptoPump610
@CryptoPump610 8 лет назад
FRAGIORGIO1 Yes a belief shared between many past beliefs. Nothing about the christian belief is unique as much as you'd like to think. Let's do a little math shale we. It's believed that people began the concept of God through Sun worship around the 14th century b.c.e. Then the ages of mythology began creating a multitude of new Gods representing elements and natural disasters. Keep in mind humans began evolving 100,000+ years ago later becoming homo sapiens. You seriously believe 96,000-98,000 years were nothing but human suffering and chaos just to pave the way for you to receive Gods revelation given a little over 2k years ago? That's quite arrogant and wishful thinking don't you think, as to say the people born in this era were the only chosen to enter heaven's gate, while the people that's come and gone for 10s of thousands of years lives were meaningless. Thinking that way would also imply human souls didn't come into existence for 10s of thousands of years. Look I get it, you want to feel someone special in this world run by evil humans that seek nothing but selfish and greedy desires, but there's nothing waiting for you outside of this life that you make except death and possibly a rebirth. Only place the belief in a higher power serves is in the minds of those that can't accept that the only meaning for your life is the one you create and to be quite honest our lives would be meaningless if such a being did exist. That takes pleasure in our suffering, that took sides in wars, that promotes many immoral codes such as slavery, rape, and genocide, all which are clear indications the bible was altered to create obedient (slaves) that would gladly take glory in selfish empire desires. You have to start asking yourself, what's so unique about your religion that isn't shared with other religions and past beliefs, aside from the names used. A religion that claims to be a revelation from God himself, that can be easily plagiarized by humans should never be entertained as actual revelation from a God, nor should you be so gullible to follow such a belief to fit in with the crowd as many do. "Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful." - Edward Gibbon

what is the symbol on the alter? Reminds me of pythagorus and his cult that worshipped circles and triangles

"Alter?" I think you mean "lectern." The symbol represents Grand Valley State University in Michigan where the debate was held.

You do have some pretty potent cyclones, however which is really a huge tornado, and I am sure that They kill much more than a tornado does. and sometimes, smaller tornadoes are imbedded in them.

On the gumball example: Perfectly illustrates my point. The default position is neutral. You neither accept nor reject a claim. If you were to tell me "the number is even!" In my neutral position, I would have no reason to outright accept nor reject the claim. This is because there is no evidence available that allows me to believe either way. The philosopher was clearly nervous on the phone and was not able to point out the fallacious argument.

Funnily enough, the definition from the guy in the video I linked (who doesn't want to be defined as either theist or atheist) was actually pretty much correct: "rejection of deity or deities". Rejection is the same as "not accepting". However, it is NOT the claim of the contrary.

I'd just again like to emphasise that "not accepting and not rejecting" is impossible. Rejection means not accepting.

It does not define god into existence. It merely says that the possibility of God leads to his necessity since there is no logical contradiction to his necessity.

Dictionaries aren't laws, but do understand that differences in language will arise between two individuals. When there are disagreements between two people, a third party entering the equation can remove the bias from people such as you and I who disagree. The etymologists trace word roots and understand the use of a word both in modern times and throughout the ages. The contemporary meanings of the words "atheist," "agnostic" and "theist" have been ironed out in many debates before us.

Funny thing is, in 1974 Plantinga himself said the MOA does not prover a thing. "“Our verdict on these reformulated versions of St. Anselm's argument must be as follows. They cannot, perhaps, be said to prove or establish their conclusion." He then goes on to say that he accepts the conclusion anyway, but not based on the MOA. So, the question is, why do you think it is such a strong argument when the guy that developed it does not?
