Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer reunited for the 50th anniversary celebration of "The Sound of Music." For half-a-century, Plummer was not a big fan of the classic movie and he actually called it "awful" and "gooey." #InsideEdition
It _is_ gooey. But it's a fun story, with glorious music, and nice scenery; it will survive for ever - probably more for the music than anything else (R&H were geniuses), though the scenery (shot in Todd-AO) helps. (And Julie's voice of course!)
When I saw this movie as a child in the 60s, we knew as a family that this movie is going to become a "cult" movie and its evergreen status still stands and keeps growing amongst family movie musical fans. I believe that Chris Plummer was merely lying when he called this movie "the sound of mucus". It's good that before he died he had the decency to take back all the negative comments he said about this movie. Without this movie status, will any of these actors/actresses ever have got this global acclaim? NEVER EVER!!
I always wondered why Plummer signed on to do SOM, it's a musical didn't he read the script? Plummer is a terrific actor despise what he said Plummer did a wonderful job as the captain. SOM is timeless one of my favs!!!
Main reason was because he wanted to do a musical on Broadway of "Cyrano De Bergerac" and saw the movie as a great preparation for it. He actually won a Tony for it in the 70s. Only when he'd already recorded all the songs himself, they decided to dub him as his voice wasn't strong enough next to Julie's. So yes, he did know it was a musical, that was the whole point of him wanting to do it. Apart from wanting to play with Julie of course, whom he adored ever since he saw her in My Fair Lady.
WELL!! SAID MR CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER!!!GLAD YOU TOOK BACK WHAT YOU MENTIONED YEARS AGO ABOUT THE MOVIE- "SOUND OF MUSIC"I HAVE SEEN IT SO MANY TIMES CANNOT REMEMBER!!!GREAT FAMILY MOVIE!!!!LOVELY TO SEE ALL THE CAST LOOKING VERY WELL!!EXCEPT FOR CHARMAIN CARR R.I.P. (SAD INDEED)I HAVE BEEN TO AUSTRIA YEARS LATER AND SAW THE PLACES THEY FILMED!!!!GOOD STUFF!!
Yes, in interviews he says the only reason he took the role WAS to sing, and then they dubbed him and that was one of the reason he was so 'naughty' about it.
Christopher Plummer is a Shakespeare actor first and foremost, and I understand why he wasn’t particularly interested in a musical even though he himself is a gifted pianist! He was ideal for his part in the film especially as he has classic aristocratic looks and manner inherited from the maternal side of his family ,... so he didn’t need to act that side of his character part! Julie Andrews and he certainly have a special relationship. However, I wonder if she had chosen to respond to his obvious interest in her, would it have lasted this long? Part of me wishes they had become a permanent item but then perhaps he is an incorrigible flirt and she wisely chose friendship over 💕 love?
I guess he seems like a playful funny man and pretty nonchalant and straightforward when it comes to his opinions he just doesn't give a damn about what other would think about him ( a typical carefree sagittarius ) unlike Julie who is rather more sweet and considerate and takes everything she does to heart and seriously maybe that's why she choose friendship I mean she might have liked him at first but when she knew him very well she choose to friendzone him despite him adoring her which is pretty clear but he still respects that ....besides Julie was a mom back then and he was married already and let's just say ....a but flirtatious
@@isabelboydcolhoun7420 and Julie was just too serious to accept him .... But I still love them together I feel like they complete each other Julie could have been happy with mister funny and witty Plummer and he would be more happy to be with a woman like her 💖💖💖 besides libra (Julie ) and Sagittarius( Chris) is a match made in heaven
Plummer was actually separated from his second wife. It was Julie who was married and with a baby, and he saw this as an inconvenience, since he does not like children, despite having a daughter from his first marriage. He himself has admitted that he didn't have a close relationship with her, until she was an adult... Julie has said that she thinks they have been friends for so long, precisely because they never had anything. So, I suppose that she herself would not have bet anything on a relationship with him (who was also a heavy drinker and womanizer), although she also didn't bet on her relationship with Blake Edwards, and you see... But it has always struck me that he often speaks with more passion about Julie than about his own wife. And the fact that he decided to marry, just the year that he reconnected with Julie, and found her newly married to Blake. Now his wife Elaine has been to him what Julie was to Blake... Finally, I believe that his own prejudices (as a Shakespearean actor, disparaging musicals and without liking children) alienated him from Julie... He was the one who decided NOT to try anything with her, despite his obvious (and confessed) attraction. We can't judge what Julie would have done or not, because simply, he didn't say or do anything about it and instead, he preferred to go drinking with Charming Carr (with whom however, he had nothing physical), and have a different girl every night. No woman in Julie's condition (trying to save her marriage and with a baby) would take a man in those conditions seriously.
It’s only right Christopher Plummer takes back every awful remark he’s made about the epic iconic SOM! Julie carried the whole movie, Plummer with his underwhelming support of the movie! Julie has always been gracious & affectionate about it what a beautiful heart & soul she is!
Please please please do not remake this movie. I’m appealing to all studios who feel this movie needs to be remade for a modern audience. It’s perfect as it is.
Awful and gooey? What happened to him??I saw the video and I still don´t understand what was he thinking when he told that.I´m glad he took it back, but did he really changed his way of thinking about it or it was just to the press and people who likes this movie?
He was so handsome in that moive. Pretty much America families love it. He finally appreciates it he was Shakespearing actor so probably not queit his wheelhouse but he sure made some effort esp doing the Landler dance.
Christopher Plummer was dubbed by studio singer Bill Lee who also dubbed for John Kerr in "South Pacific" and tons of Disney movie and theme park voicings.
@@joecascone2189 But the dubbing was done sensitively - blending from CP to VL and back, not jarringly as with many other dubbings of the era (South Pacific, My Fair Lady, West Side Story ...)
He called it "The Sound of Mucus". I think, and hope, it mellowed him when he realized how his performance, though not his "thing" would contribute to appeal for the general population.
