Nobody told him to straighten his feet. Bank his body. Clench his fists. It was all natural. And still 40 years on after numerous hero incarnations he is still the one that makes us believe. Thank you Chris

I heard that was a nod to George Reeves, who was Superman in the 1950s. George would sometimes look into the camera and give a little wink to the audience. That was cool of Chris to do something similar at the end of each of the four films he did. He had watched George when he was growing up, btw. But at the time, I bet he never dreamed that one day he would put on the iconic skinsuit, cape, and boots and end up flying into history as the greatest Superman there ever was or will be.

Look at all the little touches Reeve brought to the flying scenes. When Superman takes off or when he's flying fast, his fists are closed, like he's using extra power. When he's not in a hurry or just carrying someone slowly, his hands are open, just gliding. Also, the position of the arms, using them to bank and turn, one forward, one back, and the way he leans his body when landing. Amazing stuff.

Same here my friend. I love Cavill as well. Mainly because he proved to be Reeve’s greatest successor. And he deserved better. But Reeve will always hold a special place in my heart. He will always be my Superman. Having grown up with his films (particularly the original and Superman II), Reeve has always been the Superman I always associate with as the real man of steel. And what made him so special is the fact that he wasn’t just Superman on screen, he was Superman in real life as well. And for that reason, Christopher Reeve will always be the definitive Superman for me.

It's a fun fact that the movies imply something, that has been confirmed by the comics almost 20 years later: A kryptonian's body emanates heat/warmth while in flight (using the solar energy stored in the cells of the body). Lois wasn't cold when she flew with Superman over Metropolis ("He even told her, that she won't need a coat or jacket") or to the north pole. Even Lex Luthor didn't freeze to death when he flew to the Fortress of Solitude on Ursa's back...

Wire rigs. Christopher Reeve had been a glider pilot, so he could could make his "flying" scenes look very aerodynamic and smooth almost without trying. Definitely the most graceful Superman. It was physically demanding though. Being suspended from wires for one or two hours at a time and laying prone like that with nothing underneath you, and having to keep your arms raised for some shots (that can sometimes take hours to set up by the way) can be very demanding on a human body. It's one of the many many reasons playing a superhero can be extremely exhausting.

I think I've already commented on this one but watching it again today-Well done! The flyers today take off and hit the ground hard and fast. And when they do, they're usually cg doubles. Chris Reeve really knew how to "fly". He really worked it well with those take off and landings and when he was in mid air you could almost believe that there were no wires holding him up.
@joaniekeyser4036
@joaniekeyser4036 2 года назад
That's because Chris had a little secret that today's Superman fans might not know: He could effortlessly hold his body aerodynamically due to his experience with hang gliding. I didn't know that about him until I looked him up on Wikipedia. And his always-flawless performances were due to his years of acting in stage plays, where you don't have a lot of room to screw up. If someone missses a cue or flubs his or her lines or sumn, there is no director there to yell "Cut!"
