I'd get the 5 weight rod for the Bow, which I can't say I've fished, but if it's the same style of medium action, I think I would absolutely love to fish that on the Bow River. They are quite responsive on Instagram so if you want to ask them about the action on the 5 weight you should :)
As you know I fish with a wide range of rods, including some higher end products by the main stream suppliers, and can honestly say that I was immediately impressed with the build quality and feel of the CSO Stave. For someone who is looking to get into fly fishing for the first time, or favours a more relaxed and forgiving casting tempo, this rod is very difficult to beat; particularly at that very impressive price point, and with your added discount code. Well done, that was a very solid review, keep them coming.
I actually prefer rods that have med-fast actions that can load up line and shoot line with less physical effort. Look like a rod I wouldn't mind adding to my quiver!
Good product review video @RosinFlyFishing. I'm considering getting a 10'+ casting/float set-up rod, so I will be considering CSO. Thank you for the promo code. Good to see the cameos and trusted testimonials.
It is a nice rod at a good price. My only real criticism is the swing weight, it is not the lightest rod out there and feels tip heavy. Perfectly fine for a couple hours on the stream, but may put extra strain on your wrists and shoulders if casting all day. That being said the tip heavy feel helps a beginning caster feel the rod load and give them access to the power in the Rod's bend easier.
You should chat with Ian about this, his expensive Sage VXP is way way more tip heavy!! I brought the tip heavy thing up to him at Ambleside and he didn't think it was tip heavy at all but very well balanced at least with my heavier reel on there.
