Without exaggeration and without nostalgia clouding my judgement because I just played and finished this game now for the first time, I have to say It is one of the best rpgs ever!
+Bruce Wayne Welcome to the glorious world of Chrono Trigger. I just beat it today for probably my 10th or 20th time and have been playing since I was a little boy. Happy you've seen the light.
+Bruce Wayne Same here, I'm playing it right now for the very first time as well and I'm about 15 hours into the game and I'm amazed. What a beautiful game, the soundtrack, the graphics, the characters, everything simply fits together so well.
+Bruce Wayne interesting i'm playing it again and in this run I named Robot as Bruce, lol! You'll play this game again many times, believe me. In 3 years, 5, 10 years, and you'll always love it as the first time!
***** I was talking more about personality, but I could see Marle's blonde lightening Lucca's hair to a lighter blue. Fun fact! Bulma's hair is actually originally purple in the manga.
Agreed, this was also the first RPG I ever completed without a strategy guide or help of any kind. The final battle with Lavos is a true test of your skills as a gamer. It has also aged remarkably well, and anyone I meet who has never played it I strongly suggest it as a 'must play.'
Okay can we all just agree on this being one of the best games ever made and in almost desperate need of a remake? because I'd buy it, i'd buy the shit out of it
I don't know, with the way things are done nowadays, the remake would almost certainly be made into just another "cinematic heavy action" crap. If the remake was exactly like the original (except the graphics obviously), then yeah, I'd buy it as well.
Chrono Trigger as a game is still great even now. If any game needs a remake, it's Chrono Cross. If you've played that game you know about the rushed ending and the cancelled Magus and Guile connection. I think a remake would greatly benefit that game.
growing up in the 80s and 90s and playing some of the greatest games in history when they were brand new i have to say that no others series like the chrono series, final fantasy, the mana series, and metroid could capture your imagination and make you wish you could really be right there with them on a true adventure. nothing touches my childhood more than hearing the chrono theme start up, or the harp prelude in final fantasy or bloody tears in castlevania. Im glad I had a slightly older brother who bought me every new rpg that came out brand new. I still have them all and now my children love them too. i apologize for the lengthy reminiscence folks, i needed to expound
I appreciate your comment, I can't play games made in this generation because of my PC specs, and high prices on Console's games. That's why I decided playing old-school games, and time after time I realized these games are awesome, and they should have sounded even more awesome when they were brand new. They had way less resources than nowadays, but they still made such masterpieces... I wonder what would happen if we get back to the past, before CT was launched, and bring Dream Team to our present, to develop their game using the resources we got now. Just imagine it...
Extremely relatable friend. I was a 90s kid and only learned about the other side of gaming when I was 8 and my brother rented FFVIII for PlayStation. I loved my Mario, Zelda and DKC games but thanks to him I got a deep interest in "lesser" known and more adult IPs like Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Secret of Mana, Lunar, Castlevania, Lufia and other games that required deep emotional investment and in return rewarded it with the greatest stories. Fond memories and Im thankful that these titles have been made and I'm still able to play them today ❤️ tl;dr nostalgia, a hell of a drug
Masamune unleashed will forever be my favorite cutscene from this game. I love Frog as a character, and the scene just shows off some of the best aspects about him without needing to be overly long or use any voice acting.
There was really something about Toriyama's animation, RPGs and DBZ back in the 90s that cannot be replicated. They just had a certain feeling and energy that I can't explain but still exists when I go back and watch videos like this. I guess its just nostalgia but I feel like it goes beyond that.
I don't get it, why is this game so powerful? Like no matter how much times I see these scenes my eyes tear up, and I start shivering like crazy Still haven't played any game/jrpg that tops this one :P you would think all these years+better technology we'd get more masterpieces like this game
+Vladislav Kusmin Chrono Trigger is my most favorite game ever. I play it almost yearly still. I do wish someone would make a rpg in the style or essence of Chrono Trigger, possibly build on all the elements that make it so great. I also dislike most rpg's my favorite game series are all platformer MegaMan games, so ChronoTrigger definitely transcended my normal genre comfort zone. Fuck I want a first person 3d chrono trigger so bad!!!!!
Frog = Captain Ginyu lol Frog's Masamune = Gohan's Z Sword Ayla = Launch and that kid with her is Gohan(Cell Series) Robo = Giru Luca = Pan Marle = Bulma Magus = Piccolo Chrono = Goku Lavos 2nd Form = Cell Incomplete Form Lavos 1st Form = Maybe Cell when he came out of Trunk's time machine?
Crono = Goku Frog (Human) = Vegeta Magnus = Piccolo Young Magnus = Trunks Marle = Chichi (I would say Bulma is Luca wasn't the tech girl) Luca = Bulma Ayla = Launch
I finished this game today and It was awesome. I just wish I had discovered it when I was a kid or a teenager. But Since I have no nostalgia I can say that this is one of the best rpgs I have played, it is absolutely impressive how ahead of his time this game was. Truly a masterpiece. I wish an anime version of this was made. Using all the stories from the game I am sure you can get at least 40-60 episodes. Also if it is done by the same studio that worked on the tournament of power of dragon ball super that would be great. A man can dream, sigh.
He made Blue Dragon (Xbox360) sometime ago and while its first part isn't perfect, I can assure you that the game is beautiful and you should play it if possible. =)
Arathorn Elendill played the blue dragons 360 and Ds and watched the first season of its anime it was cool and what not felt like Chrono Trigger was more worthy of an anime my opinion tho
I really want a full remake of this game in modern FF style but the same combat. I would do so many things just to see some of the triple techs fully animated.
I don't think that would be a great idea man. Nowadays the only thing they can do is mess up classics. It would break my heart if they F*ed up with this one.
germa9090 All I feel this game would need would be a remastered musical score, and maybe HD, hand drawn sprites and backgrounds. Just a visual/ audio facelift so to speak, and leave the game otherwise as the original.
October, 2020. 0:00 best part. Seriously, for someone who haven't touched the game for a long time, that music box while looking at the whole gang's picture brings back memories of the journey we took back then with all of them. Hey! Who left the onions here?
I will never stop loving these cutscenes but when I see the cutscene of the gang finding a completely wrecked Robo and Lucca whips out that tiny ass screwdriver I can't resist going 'bitch what good is that gonna do'
They took one of the greatest JRPGs, then re-released it with cutscenes in the style of legend himself. RIP Mr. Toriyama. You made our childhoods awesome.
Yeah, I've never seen these cutscenes before and though I've been hearing from all my hardcore gamer friends for years that Chrono Trigger is a classic. In the first few seconds of this trailer, it doesn't take a genius to see that Akira Toriyama did was all over this. I sure do miss his 90's animation over the new style of DBZ.
***** If your comment is toward when I said, I sure do miss the 90's animation. My friend, no offense but you truly haven't been paying attention. Due to technology, the animation is more done through a computer where back than, like the old disney movies, the simpsons etc, they were hand drawn. If you watch the simpsons during the 90's and now, totally different. As far as DBZ, the old animation had much more detail than now. So though they can finish a episode a lot faster than they were able to, the detail suffered so to speak because of it. The animation now looks more cartoonish.
***** Lol, dude, I'm a artist but whatever. I'm not going back and forth with you, cause you seem like the typical youtuber who will do so. So whatever helps you sleep at night because everyone else for the most part complains about this. As I said they used more than one artist back than instead of this generic look to finish episodes faster. If you think the animation now is better and more detailed than the artist, links below(just to name 1 of his many)who did the episode when Gohan first started fighting Gotenks Buu and Goku started fighting Kid Buu by himself, 1, you need glasses and 2, don't know animation. Differences(my point), with the new animation, darker doesn't necessarily mean more detailed. True detail or realism is when you see movement of something which shows separation from that thing and the characters body, for example, hair, clothing etc. As well as the movement is far more fluid and natural. In the new, you see none of this(unless its something that has to move like Piccolo's cape), everything blends in, as well as with the background like a flat surface/i.e cartoonish. Like a tattoo, this is why certain colors and shading is used only on specific parts to make the tattoo look like it is actually popping off of the skin/the background, that is the old animation. Of course this is something mostly a artist will only see or know or in your case, take some art classes dude. Anyone else feel like Chrono resembles a character from DBZ who's planet's population was nearly annihilated by a huge monster thing and defeated it with a legendary sword, not to mention a resemblance in hair color and clothing. ( it's Tapion).
Yep. That is why Chrono Trigger was known as being made by the so-called "Dream Team", the other two directors were the guys who made Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior. Which is probably why Chrono Trigger is one of the best games of all time.
Will you stop saying chrono trigger resembles DBZ, it's toriyama 's art style so they will look alike,so enjoy the video and let's feel the nostalgia. :')
When I saw the cinematic a long time ago as a kid on the ps1 in the intro I admit it made me a little jealous as I thought it would be awesome to do that go on a adventure though time and make friendships that transcend the very laws of time itself. Just would make for a killer story to tell in life if it could ever be believable that you faced eons of opponents and forged alliances even with hated enemies. Wish they would have kept magus in the picture he is awesome.
Back here watching after hearing the devastating news of Akira Toriyama's sudden passing, he was one of the amazing minds behind this amazing game! The world got a little darker with his passing......R.I.P. Akira Toriyama
Anyone else notice grandpa Gohan in the final marriage scene? Very obviously put in for no reason than a cross reference. Much love to Akira Toriyama, he made my childhood amazing.
I don't think I've ever seen someone as frightfully gleeful about engaging in life-threatening violence as Ayla. The bloodlust is strong in her. She's clearly a sadist too with how she handles poor Kino. Also, Lucca, I wouldn't be smiling if I had to repair a sophisticated robot with a lone flathead screwdriver lol. I hope it's actually a sonic screwdriver. Seriously though, this video is pretty cool.
No more rubbish! Ayla head explode! (If you haven’t played the game, or didn’t have Robo with you when you met Ayla, then that joke probably makes no sense....) Anyway, Ayla’s a primitive human from a warlike tribe that values strength above all. Every reference she makes throughout the game is “strong this” and “strong that,” with the word “strong” often replacing words like good or right in sentences where those words normally belong. The only time in the game where she uses the word “good” appropriately is when fighting Lavos, where she says that the creatures of this world are good, and she’ll fight him because he’s an outsider, once again, a primal, tribal, notion of good and evil, based on in-groups and out-groups. Her character is, in some ways, complex in her simplicity. For instance, I wondered why she puts up with Kino throughout the game, given her ethos and how much weaker he is than her. A number of scenes throughout the game and the ending cutscene above make it clear though that she basically sees herself as so strong that she doesn’t have to prove herself to anyone (It would be justified. Ayla is the only playable character in the game who ever does 9999 damage.) and so just chooses the mate she likes best without letting peer pressure or social norms play into it. Now, why does Ayla speak english, much less broken english, that is another question entirely. Lucca, of course, has other things in that bag. How she can repair a piece of tech from 1300 years in the future though, is another question that can only be answered by video game logic.
Damn, that's a pretty thorough analysis. She represents a darker side to human history that still dwells within each of us. Which is probably why we're attracted to video games with violence. Chrono Trigger is the best RPG ever made and Marle is more my ideal girl. Soft, playful, adventurous, and actually shows compassion for you when you get brought back from the dead.
***** Lol, Lucca for me. Though I think Ayla is the most physically attractive of the bunch, Lucca seems like the kind of girl who you could play video games with. Besides I like smart girls, glasses, and tomboys...and Lucca fits all three categories lol. Marle is, pardon the pun, a bit too much of a princess for my tastes. As for chrono trigger being the greatest RPG ever, I actually have a hard time disagreeing with that statement. I know I’ve easily replayed it more than any other RPG and it somehow never gets old. Probably why I still overthink the character development of a 20 year old game lol. It’s just that good.
***** Lol, I imagine she’d be a popular choice amongst fellow nerds. Besides, she’s the only woman on the team who isn’t blonde. I am actually surprised that Ayla isn’t the more popular of the three, but then again, she’s kind of scary. I’m pretty sure that just about anyone would end up getting smacked around like Kino in that relationship and I, for one, would have no desire to take a 9999 punch for leaving the toilet seat up. What is AGDQ btw?
for all my life my favorite anime art style will always be the one that reminds me of Dragon Ball Z...I just love the sharp details it has and how most of the facial changes revolve around the eyes ....I'm always surprised that this didn't get an anime adaption cause it deserves one...had all the right elements for a great anime
I think Crono looks like Teen Gohan, Magus= Super 17, and Frog I don't know XD, but to me the character who actually looks like Piccolo is Slash, even though he is not featured in an anime Cutscene.
Not exactly by him. Toriyama only makes the artwork for the game. The cutscene are surely made by the directors from Dragon Ball. The same guys that makes the episodes from the anime.
Yes. I understand you. But no. Akira only made the artworks. He's not an anime drawer. He draws manga. That's different :-) It's like DB on TV. Not even 1 episode was drawn by him. Akira made the manga. Anyway, that's his style and still awesome in Chrono Trigger.
What are you talking about? Akira Toriyama does the "anime drawing." There is no difference between the art of manga and art of anime besides the animation in anime. If you knew how anime was made then you would understand.
One thing I loved about this was Toei Animation's anime scenes added to this amazing game. Sadly I hated the PS One version but at least Square Enix made up for it, on the DS version! I even edited theses on my SNES playthough too!
It's "internet slang" for LEET, as in Elite, or the best. When a gamer says "1337 gear" or something along those lines, they are referring to it being really good. It's mainly something younger gamers do, and I'm getting a bit old so it might even be outdated now, but it's something I and most other college-age gamers grew up hearing daily.
Gus Buster Glenn is not vegeta, he is Yajirobe; he's the one who dealt the final blow to vegeta (magus) who was the prince of the race attempting to destroy the humans.
Ah! Back in the days this was my favorite game, the quest for Magus's castle was the one I enjoyed the most. Especially when Frog used the Masamune to open the hidden entrance to the castle.
***** Well yeah, he helps you until you free the Queen and the (surprisingly not evil) counsellor, but the next time you see him is after that very boss, when Tata got his Hero Medal and he's being all depressed in the wood. (Unless there's another Skeleton dude boss, I think there actualy might be another in a side quest later on in the game, but I can't remember. Then again, they did the same thing on the box art with Marle shooting fire from her hand, so why not?)
procrastinator brad I think Crono's design is more based on adult Gohan, actually. Although, since Marle's based on Chi-chi, that does make my theory allow for some kinky Chrono Triggering.
