This is a very cursory test of the Grozer Short Turkish Biocomposite bow that I bought - I'm very satisfied with it, and the performance indeed seems to be excellent. I'm confident that with practice and a consistent draw, I should be able to shoot this bow very well, and much faster still.

That horn layer on the belly side looks sooo nice 😲

Also do you know why you can't shoot straight? Because you're not strong enough, or conditioned for that weight and you are going to blow out your shoulders. If you keep shooting arrows to light for your bow your either going to have your bow explode from violent delamination or the arrow will snap on release from paradox and drive the back half of that arrow right through your bow hand . Don't say I didn't tell you so .
@gizmonomono
@gizmonomono 5 лет назад
80 pounds is way to much for you? You'll get permanent injuries if you continue like that. The pain in your shoulder should be an indicator. Lower your left shoulder down. And the pain in your right arm just means you're not pulling with your back enough. And don't do these experiments with light arrows. That's war bow poundage. You'll destroy the bow with light arrows, and you run the risk of braking the arrow and having it go through your hand upon release.

Took the words right outa my mouth. I've been waiting for his bow to explode he should be shooting 600 grain arrows minimum. Obviously he doesn't know that it takes time alot of time to work up to a bow of that poundage, he also dosen't realize that greater poundage doesn't equal a faster arrow as bow limbs can only return so fast, what it does do is enable you to fire a heavy arrow such as in the battle of agincourt the Welch archers were decimating the catiphract knights with 1300 grain arrows tipped with needle bodkin points. The arrows were going through the armored knights and killing the horse which also was armored.
@jahrn6
@jahrn6 4 года назад
He even mentions that Grózer himself used (about) 400 grain arrows with a 60 pound bow for speed testing - which would mean 7 grains / punds of drawweight - so yes 600 grains for that bow would be the very minimum with that 85 pound bow as Jareth and you told, while 400 grains is nearly dry-fireing that precious bow. The recomended draw weight for a bow for practice = take a bow with half the draw weight of the bow you are maximal able to draw in a correct manner In this case a 35-40 pound bow would be the MAXIMUM for average training shooting - and maybe in 2 years it would be 60 pounds - and in about 5 years the 85 pounds - so Tim please get a 35 pounds bow for practice before you cripple yourself Also while you can ofc shoot traditional "eastern" bows mediterranian style (3 fingers) - it is HIGHLY recomended to shoot the Turkish bow (due to its very small size and shape) the traditional way which would be the thumbdraw

True composite bow were shot with arrows down to 2 grains per pound. The average turkish composite was around 120 and even over 200 pounds. And the heaviest arrows at 600 grains....not sure how these bows fair compared to the traditional bows.
@chroma6947
@chroma6947 2 года назад
@@EREBO95 They were actually 55-90lbs in draw weight. Only english archers exceeded 100 because they HAD to due to the efficiency. This bow isnt performing the best to be honest.

Hi Tim, thanks for keeping these videos around, they are very helpful. I am kind of surprised with the performance though. Just this past weekend I chronographed my Great Plains recurve, which is 60 lbs at 28" draw length measured 199 fps. A C shaped reflex bow 85 lbs should be measuring way above 220 fps (at 28" draw length)

You gotta use both hands equally... Many warnings about long term injury from imbalance in old archery traditions. Ottoman style was you pull the bow 600 times on each side before you get to use arrows... always practice equally with both hands according to that tradition... Why not? it is fun, easy to be equally good on both sides, especially if you do it from the start. You will be able to have more fun because of less aches...

Nice results! I think the errors might be occurring because you don't have the plastic diffusers on top of the wires. They're meant to be used on a sunny days when there's too much sun light.

Nice shooting there. That bow is FAST! But I suspect you may not be drawing it to a full 28". You can check by marking the arrow at 28" and get someone to see if the mark gets drawn to the back of the riser. You will be surprised how much our body tissue gets compressed drawing a heavy bow. My draw was 28 with a 30# bow but only 27" with a 45# bow and I suspect even less with a heavier bow. Also your arrows are under spined from the angle they stick into the target. That tends to rob energy from the shot and could be dangerous especially with such a heavy bow.
@harlinwall9367
@harlinwall9367 3 года назад
Tim, I don't believe draw weight directly correlates with arrow speed. Heavy draw weight Asiatic Style Bows are generally used to propel heavy arrows...allowing for higher kinetic foot pounds of energy to more easily penetrate armor. Arrow speed is more directly related to the efficient transfer of energy (stored in the flexed limbs) to the arrow. You can even reference Grozer's website and see that he displays some older speed records for a few of his bows...they have far lower draw weights. IE: Laminated Turkish bow @ 45# with 226 fps, An Assyrian Biocomposite @ 56# & 237 fps and another Assyrian Biocomposite @ 61# & 243 fps! For most circumstances that require effective and efficient killing (hunting for example) the draw weight of the bow is less important than accurate shot placement. (Certainly accuracy is better achieved at a draw weight which the archer can easily hold for 10 seconds) Most US states have a minimum draw weight required to hunt large game. (Deer, Elk, Moose and Bear) For example, Colorado requires a minimum of 35 # Draw Weight. This bow is out of your effective draw weight range capability. Propelling those light weight arrows will cause damage to the bow. Even Grozer will cancel any expressed or implied warranty, if the archer uses arrows below a specific number of grains per inch...as it is similar to dry firing the bow. This is not a Flight Bow.... As well, even real Flight Bows have a considerably shorter lifespan, because of the intensity of stresses inflicted on them. Just my thoughts. Grozer sure does make beautiful bows. 🙂🏹👍

You can clearly see how much of a deadly weapon a bow can be by just looking at these arrow zip through the air at such amazing speed. An arrow would probably pass through a man at 20 meters shot out of this bow

With a 12 inch arrow that is incredibly stiff and light. They use a special device to "overdraw" the arrow, that's how flight archery records are set. That's because of the effect that arrow length has on drag. Google "drag equation" if you aren't familiar.

It just won´t because turkish short biocomposite bow has maximum drawlenght 30" and aj grozer said to me it is better to draw it to 29 - 29,5" with thumbring measured in front of the grip. But if you use three finger release it is quite uncomfortable to draw it more than 28".

@slizzardman
@slizzardman 6 лет назад
I believe it is also not a solid piece of horn, but a manmade strip that started as multiple pieces, and that the sinew is similarly processed. Grozer actually talks about that in some of their test videos. The process is cheaper, faster, and doesn't require relatively rare long-horned animals with solid horns so it cuts down on poaching.

Why would you ever need a 85# pull? Unless a bow is so poorly designed that you need such a hard pull to give enough speed. 60# in a well designed traditional bow will take down any big game on the planet.
@TimPiatek
@TimPiatek 7 лет назад
Ronald Hagler , nobody needs an 85# bow- in that spirit, nobody really needs a bow at all, right? Far from being inefficient, the Turkish bow can be extremely efficient, particularly with extremely light arrows for flight shooting. The reason I bought an 85# bow is because it's at the low end of what a traditional Turkish bow would draw- for flight bows, up to 160 or more pounds wouldn't be unimaginable. It takes a lot of bow to shoot a traditional arrow as fast and far as the Ottomans managed to.
@0ooTheMAXXoo0
@0ooTheMAXXoo0 Год назад
Some traditions recommend you pull a bow double the strength of the bow you are shooting. So that is one thing. Famous bow hunters like Byron Ferguson use a 70 lb bow to do trick shooting, heavier bows for hunting... Those famous hunters really liked to send big, heavy arrows at their targets!
